klapsons the Boutique Hotel in Singapore

Comments (0) Singapore, Stay, Travel

A day before leaving for Singapore for It’s The Ship, i squeezed time to book a hotel room for one night for when i got back into Singapore on Monday, cos i was to have a meeting on Tuesday. (Note: scheduling a meeting post-festival is incredibly painful and not something i’d do again.)

After reading about Baby’s experience with HotelQuickly, i tried the app myself for the first time.

I ended up choosing klapsons the boutique hotel, whose reception surprised me by being a giant ball on still water with ambient lights on high ceilings above it ? ? I loved all the funky furniture in there!

HotelQuickly app is offering discounts off hotels in Malaysia till 30th Nov >

Melinda Looi Cruise 2016 & SS16 Collection

Nothing beats a Friday night fashion party in a Presidential Suite, as thrown and shown by renowned Malaysian fashion designer Melinda Looi.

Held at the Pullman Hotel in Bangsar, I was whisked up to the 27th floor. I expected a few mannequins to showcase the new collection, but when I walked in, there was so much more than a few mannequins.

Before me were many racks of clothing for us to try on, jewellery spread around, beauty products to pamper us with, and food! Any event that happens during the golden hour of dinner time should always have food! And yes, there were a few mannequins too 😉

Premium products from Caudalie were placed on the table, and hand massages available! Who am I to say no to a pampering session?

The masseuse gave my hands a spritz of Caudalie’s Ylang Ylang essential oil before proceeding to massage it in, gently releasing all the muscle strains and giving my hands a nice pull, with satisfying cracks. Quite a nice way to start off an event, and prep my hands to hold as many glasses of champagne as I can!

Did I mention that the penthouse’s bathtub was filled to the brim with ice and bottles of Möet Chandon? #welcometothegoodlife

I met Melinda in person for the very first time, and she is such a warm and eccentric lady. You know how some people give off a very fun and cool vibe, even before you’ve even met them? She was one such person, and I can see how her personality translates into all of her creations.

Showcased were pieces from both the Cruise 2016 & SS 2016 collections, and I spotted several personalities like Ning Baizura and Jaclyn Victor donned in them. The dress Jaclyn wore (on right below) perfectly matches her hair! I spotted Amber Chia and Carmen Soo also present, busy trying out pieces.

Songstresses Ning Baizura and Jaclyn Victor.

I asked Ning what she thought about the SS16 dress she was wearing.

Ning: It is beautiful and very comfortable!
Me: What do you like most about it?
Ning: I actually love the fact that ALL her dresses have pockets! How functional is that?

This was a detail most people missed out on, as the pockets are very cleverly hidden. But what Ning said was true, because I checked all the dresses myself! I’ll take her word on the part about being comfortable, she really looked at ease.

D.D x Nicholas Mak: A Collaboration For The Modern Gentleman

It was a ‘hidden affair’ for the launch of the D.D x Nicholas Mak collaboration. Why hidden? Well, the event was held at Mr Brooks, the popular speakeasy bar that requires you to first search for a purple car parked in a garage. There, you push the garage door (with the hanging tools) to get in! But because the event was happening that night, it wasn’t exactly hidden with people constantly walk in and out, and the purple car was spruced up with the event logo and three party dummies behind the wheel. Looks like fun already!

The collaboration was a 60’s Palm Springs-inspired line, featuring a 9-piece wardrobe containing looks fit for the dapper gentleman of those golden years. The cut of the collection carries retro silhouettes that accentuates the upper body in a boxy cut, and highlights slimmer fit for the legs; and is put together using a range of fabrics from cotton oxford to lux suiting.

Dude & the Duchess (d.d) has been reigning the local fashion scene with their runway-style pieces since 2008 by creating consistently clean and chic looks that appeal to both men and women. Nicholas Mak, who has been quite the local fashion icon, as well as the founder and CEO of The List Magazine (and my tattoo buddy), has managed to inject his dapper street-style into the collection whilst working closely with d.d Creative Director Jonathan Liang and Designer Debbie Chung.

The DD x NM collaboration showcases classic palettes of black and white, coloured with the Palm Springs palette of navy, bright blues and pastel pink, alongside floral prints- which are mostly used as accents in small areas like the collar, breast pockets and sleeve cuffs. The stand-out piece that has a full-on floral print is the bomber jacket, that could serve a look that was either preppy or street.

The event came into full swing as more and more people made their way in for a chat and beer, with a live band performing in the background. Ever the social butterfly, Nick was seen going around to clink glasses and have a quick chat with everyone in the room. We had just managed a few words and a photo together before he was whisked off again by other enthusiastic guests. From our chat, I learnt that the collection was created based on Nick’s personal daily aesthetics and fusing the clean lines and cuts that d.d creative director Jonathan Liang carries across all the clothing in d.d.’s collection.

Throngs of fashionistas flocked in to congratulate the team and to toast to more future collaborations and successes for both brand and personality. It was very lively, and got really crowded. I had a lot of fun chatting with some of the local designers, like Nelissa Hilman, who dropped by to say a quick hello. She collaborated with d.d previously too, but that was for shoes – which were super gorgeous!

It’s always Christmas all year round in the KinkyBlueFairy HQ! Joyce says so anyway. We have a medley of beauty products that are constantly sent in, so we decided to round up a few of her favourites.

[Joyce: I’m a major fan of skincare products that are organic and environment-friendly, since i started exploring a healthier path in 2013. Currently using Melvita and Algotherm daily!]Beauty Post - Melvita The Cream and The Eye & Lip Contour Cream

Erasing Wrinkles Like It’s Photoshop
You may be able to Photoshop your wrinkles or use Beauty Mode in photos, but there’s nothing you can do about it in real life. Organic brand Melvita has come up with its very own ‘Photoshop in a bottle’ with their Nectar Suprême range. For your face, The Cream blends both Royal Jelly and Kniphofia (a flower that produces revitalising nectar) to give you smoother, brighter and younger-looking skin with daily use.

As wrinkles also plague our eye and lip areas, Melvita created a separate cream that contains the same active ingredients, but is much lighter for these delicate areas. Other than reducing the appearance of wrinkles, it also reduces the puffiness and water retention in your face. Sounds like a winning product doesn’t it?

Both products retails at all Melvita stores nationwide:
RM330 for The Cream; and RM225 for The Eye & Lip Contour Cream.

Beauty Post - Algotherm

The Right SPF Solution That Protects Both You & Mother Nature
I’ve never given much thought to the sunblocks I use, as long as the SPF suits me and doesn’t irritate my skin. However, not many brands have gone down Algotherm’s path of creating a sunblock that not just protects skin, but is kind to the environment too. In this case, the sea. Our regular sunblocks contain harsh chemicals which washes off at the beach and carries on to harm sea creatures – without us even realising it!

AlgoSun contains natural oils and ingredients which have gone through biodegradability tests and even tested against corals, which were finally proven to cause no harm to any of the delicate sea life. Naturally, the product comes in a range of SPF 20, 30 and 50 to give full protection to your face, body and even hair! They also have an aftersun care range that is also free of harmful chemicals to soothe your beautifully tanned skin.

Algotherm’s products are available at selected spa & beauty salons, prices start at RM190.

Moisturising Power For The Day
Soft and radiant skin is the final result Estelle & Thild promises, with daily usage of their Total Moisture Day Lotion. Hyaluronic Acid – a key ingredient used in almost every product that helps maintain skin’s youthfulness, is the star of the show. Not only will it help your skin absorb the moisturising goodness, it also creates a moisture barrier to lock everything up within your skin’s surface.

The organic side of this product features a blend of Pink Pomelo and Licorice Extract that works to gently brighten and renew skin for a hydrated and refreshed complexion.

Available in selected stores and Sephora outlets, starting from RM130.

Beauty Post - Urban Decay Vice 4

Urban Decay Vice 4 Palette
I believe this is one of the most addictive colour palettes from Urban Decay, and it is not hard to see why. With 20 colours to choose from, each one is bolder and brighter than the last. The Vice 4 surpasses all other Vice palettes simply because it has the best bright hues, the most useful neutrals, super cool smokeys, and a nice combo of shimmery and matte versions. Those, along with a kick-ass front palette design, a matching bag, and double-ended brush.

Every colour is fused with Urban Decay’s Pigment Infusion System™ that gives you colour that stays, and shimmer that won’t fall. (Someone needs to give this a cry test too!) I love it because I can imagine the colours being used for anything and everything! Retails at RM240 in the Urban Decay store in KLCC.

[Joyce: Love love love this palette, i feel the hues CHANGE my entire outfit’s look]
