Typhoon Haiyan was a maximum category-five storm with gusts of up to 235mph
Authorities say in the city of Tacloban, Leyte, alone, 10,000 could be dead
Up to 9.5 million people have been affected [source: NBC.news]
Bodies were seen floating in flooded streets in reminder of 2004 Tsunami
Filipino government now considering introducing martial law to combat looting
UN says 2.5m people need of food aid and UNICEF estimate 1.5 m children affected
Hundreds of thousands of people in South East Asia have been evacuated
Even tho countries like Britain and the United States have pledged donations for aid (more than £6million, and $20 million respectively), the need is massive as: “In some cases the devastation has been total,” Secretary to the Cabinet Rene Almendras told a news conference.
I would like to implore you to donate to any of the organisations listed down *here* and *here*.
There are so many ways you can donate; via PayPal, credit card, online banking, and even SMS.
It’s easy to turn away and think “Oh, it’s so far away from me, poor them” and then not do anything.
This could have been you.
This could have been us.
While we’re comfortably sitting in our part of the world – working, eating, sleeping, laughing – there are a big unfortunate sum of people currently going through the worst experience of their lives. Have you ever watched The Impossible? Go watch it. Steph and i were sobbing throughout the entire movie, and it’s something we all need to watch to UNDERSTAND the calamity and enormity of natural disasters such as this recent typhoon.
Donating anything from RM10 – RM10,000 helps.
Instead of buying yourself dinner out tonight, perhaps you could donate RM50 instead.
For an idea of how far your money will go, i took this from WorldVision.org:
“Your gift will help provide vital relief to children and families devastated by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
$24 can provide essential supplies like a blanket and mosquito net.
$33 can supply a hygiene kit for a family.
$35 can provide a food kit to feed a family for 7 days.
$184 can give a family an emergency shelter.
$285 can provide the essentials that a family needs to survive, including food, clean water, shelter, education, and Child-Friendly Spaces.”
I initially listed below some organisations you can donate to [as listed on NBCNews.com and Time.com] but after talking to Meesh, she said that the Philippines Red Cross is the best agency to donate to cos:
– some other organisations have clauses that only get 30% of donations to where you want it to go
– $ is not wasted on logistics for overhead and transport costs
– the Philippines Red Cross can use the money to buy things locally so it all streams back into the country
The Philippine Red Cross is providing a tracking service for family members looking for missing people. The organization is accepting donations on its website (100 PHP = $2.30) and is looking for volunteers to help assemble relief packages at its headquarters in Manila.
NARS may just be the most exciting make up brand to launch in Malaysia this year… i currently use their tinter moisturiser and heard all their eye make up colours are to die for.
Carey (who just represented Malaysia at the recent Miss Universe 2013), me, Thanu
Clouds, Sunitha with her sparrow face, me and my bananas
Claudia snatched up someone’s Hermes (after asking permission of course) to give it some love.
We shamelessly took our champagne into Topshop after that cos Clouds was drawn to a necklace there, and managed to get to Joleyn’s 30th birthday dinner by 8:30pm! I left my car at my parents’ so i wouldn’t have to drive home. Don’t know if that was a smart idea cos i ended up drinking more than usual -_-
Happy birthday Joleyn!!!

FLATLAND
I’ve managed to catch two TerryandTheCuz shows before, which Clem and i thoroughly enjoyed, so i’m looking forward to their upcoming project called FLATLAND.
TerryandTheCuz have designed, directed, written and created work for theatre, dance, puppetry and art installations across Malaysia, Australia, India, China, Indonesia, East Timor and the Czech Republic.
Their show ‘Klue,Doh!’ won Best Set Design and was nominated for Best Group Performance at the 9th BOH Cameronian Awards for the Arts 2-12); and ‘The Bee Project’ will be going on international tour soon.
Their productions are always very entertaining and different from any other shows i’ve caught in KL (not counting musicals), and they try to attract newer audiences to the arts.
FLATLAND is based on Edward Abbott’s novella about a completely flat world of two dimensions where all the inhabitants are geometric shapes themselves. You can read a summary of the story behind Flatland *here*. It’s really quite fascinating.
TerryandTheCuz’s adaptation of FLATLAND is created by translating the story into a contemporary Malaysian context, and then responding to that text from a choreographic, design and musical perspective.
Collaborating with renowned artists from Malaysia and Australia, the FLATLAND creative team includes choreographer Suhaili Micheline, writer Thomas Henning, dramaturges Anne James and Ash Dyer, composer Avinash Pradhan, audio-visual and sound designer Rob Stewart, and costumer designer Mel Page.
FLATLAND will premier as an interactive performance art installation at Urbanscapes this weekend and i hear they’re constructing a massive pentagon, so look out for it when you’re there!

I went for the launch party of SUPERMODELME at Publika last week.
“Supermodelme Femme Fatale is a multi-platform series revolving around the lives of Asian models as they try to take on an international career in the cut-throat world of fashion. It has won the Best Cross Platform Content at the 2012 Asian Television Awards and most recently earned a nomination for the 2013 International Digital Emmy Awards.
Supermodelme Femme Fatale is hosted by resident judge supermodel Lisa S, E! News Asia presenter Dominic Lau, and Singaporean-born Thailand-based model Ase Wang on the judging panel to guide and mentor the models, preparing them for international stardom.”
Supermodelme Femme Fatale will officially premiere on 18th November 2013, Monday at 8.00pm MYon Diva Universal (Astro Channel 702)
Clem and i had such a great holiday at X2 earlier this month (it seems like ages ago now :p). Our trip was arranged via The Luxe Nomad (an online portal where you can book luxury hotel and resort stays all over the world at member-only rates up to 70& off).
This was my second trip to Koh Samui (the first being a company trip when i was still with BAT) and flying over it this time was a much more magical experience somehow.
I didn’t take any pictures cos i was too slow and busy staring out in wonder, so i’ll try my best to describe it here: We were flying through some wispy clouds, and i just caught sight of the tip of an island when the plane slowly started to lean towards the left so my side was facing downwards at a huge span of calm ocean surface just GLEAMING in the sunlight. Even Clem commented how mesmerising it was. It was just so… beautiful. Maybe it’s a good thing i didn’t capture it in my camera, so that incredible image will be enhanced in my memory forever.
After we passed that wonderful gleaming ocean, we flew through little bursts of baby clouds and saw below us tiny coves with yellow beaches, turquoise waters, and bright green hills in the middle of the island. So picture postcard perfect! (i didn’t manage to capture that too. All i got was this pic above which is not that great :p)
In front of X2 Resort Koh Samui. X2 is a pretty big brand – with resorts, villas, apartments, hotels, and residences for sale.
Besides Koh Samui, they’ve got resorts in Kui Buri, Koh Kood, and Phuket.
I knew it was a fun resort the moment i saw swing sofas in the reception area!
A row of Deluxe Pool Villas. X2 also has other type of rooms like the Deluxe Garden Villa, Luxury Pool Villa Suite, and the Royal Villa.
There’s a long beautiful wooden walkway that takes one through the whole resort, and i love how they cut holes in it to make way for the trees instead of chopping them down.
The big pool was so gorgeous, we spent most of our time hanging out here!
The tub in our Deluxe Pool Villa was quite big and just begging to be made into a scarf tub!
Guess who ended up spending more time in there instead of me…
X2 has a complimentary champagne breakfast daily! I like the way they roll.
Clem and i would sit at the SAME table every morning cos i thought it had the best ocean view, and i loved looking at the foliage and super tall coconut trees to my right…
Besides the buffet of cereals, fruit and salads; we could choose 2 dishes each from their Western and Asian breakfast menu.
In preparation for Urbanscapes that’s happening NEXT WEEKEND, i thought i’d post up some possible outfits for one to wear from the KinkyBlueFairy store!(erh ya website still not ready… who knew it’d take so long to create a website while juggling other projects at the same time…) Well, it’s pretty much what *i’d* wear if i had to create an assortment of outfits…
Dressing for a festival requires two main things for me – COMFORT and COLOUR!
I also posted up pix of our festival headbands up for sale! Lots of happy butterflies, crazy parrots, cute birds, little roses, and massive sunflowers 😀 Great for friends to find you in a crowd! XD
Headbands range from RM15 – RM129. Only 1 piece per design.
Check out the FB album for more pix *HERE*
If you’re interested to purchase any of the items you see, please email shop@kinkybluefairy.com!
I haven’t stopped using these awesome custom laptop sleeves/cases since i got them from Snupped! They let me choose a couple to do a review, and i like them so much that i offered to do a giveaway AND squeezed a discount code for readers who’d like to buy them! Christmas is coming and it’ll be a great Christmas pressie!
Snupped is company that collaborates with artists from all over the world, whose designs then get to be made into fully customisable and hand-tailored gadget cases.
You can choose what design you want on either side, what print you want INSIDE, what kinda gadget you want it made for (laptops, tablets, phones), and whether you want handles or not. You can even upload your own jpg. file to have your personal designs and illustrations on your case!
I couldn’t resist this design for my laptop (by Josiah from Singapore) cos it’s so colourful and crazy AND its green tones match my lappie’s hardcover! Finally… i have a laptop bag :p Do you know i’ve been putting my laptop in a tote bag for ages… quite lame of me.
For my second choice, i got one made WITHOUT handles so i could use it as a clutch!
I chose to have designs from Yabai Yabai x The Local – i put bananas on one side, and eggs on the other 😀
It’s SO CUTE RIGHT. Every time i look at it my spirit does a BOING of happiness!!
The quality of the outer case is a bit ‘crunchier’ than i expected, but it’s nice, cos the printing quality is great.
Here are the prints i chose to have inside my Snupped bags:
WIN a gift voucher from Snupped worth SGD56!
(you can get the biggest size/laptop sleeve with that)
1) Instagram/FB/tweet/blog your favourite Snupped artist’s design OR any one of my pictures from this blogpost
2) Caption it “I want to win a Snupped case from @JoyceTheFairy !”
