Exhibit Space: A Fashion Forum by Fashionpreneur @ White Box, Publika

*written by Rachel*

There’s always a first time for everything. Ever since I started working at #KinkyBlueFairy, I’ve had a lot of firsts. Thanks to the team, I can feel myself constantly growing out of my comfort zone. A sudden wave of sadness just hit me knowing that my time with the KBF Team is ending soon. Le cries a million tears.

Two weekends ago, I was given the opportunity to attend a fashion forum. I’ve never actually attended a forum before, despite coming up with event proposal after proposal on the execution of forums and exhibitions for academic purposes.

The Fashionpreneuer team from Infinite Ventures successfully put together Malaysia’s very first fashion forum and exhibition – Exhibit Space. Bringing fashion and entrepreneurship together in a single platform to discuss fashion as a thriving business venture, its aim was to create a stronger fashion community by harnessing the power of aspiring fashion designers in our local fashion industry.

It was a full-house event! The attendees who turned up came from a diverse range of backgrounds- fashion students, entrepreneurs, photographers, legal attorneys, and of course, our local renowned fashion gurus.

L-R: Fashion designer Bon Zainal; photographer Ridduan Ismail or better known as ttfga; blogger/fashion designer Kittie YiyiKai from Fizi Woo; and actress /Founder of Street Fashion KL, Sazzy Falak.

The first session discussed what it takes to become successful in the fashion industry. Ridduan shared how he managed build a name for himself as a fashion photographer by using Instagram as one of the platforms in reaching out to the community. Kittie and Kai both talked about the ups and downs they experienced while building their respective fashion labels.

Kittie highlighted that failure isn’t the end of the world, how it isn’t entirely a bad thing, and that it can sometimes open up different doors of opportunities.

Sazzy swears by Google Calendar to juggle her busy schedule for business, family and friends. She brought us through her journey in showcasing her label, Street Fashion KL at the PLITZS New York Fashion Week back in 2013. Sazzy makes it to my list of #MomGoals because not only does she have a beautiful family, she’s also a successful business woman AND a fashionista.

Steven Tai AW16 Presentation

*Written by April, Pictures by Aizi *

That’s right, it’s me AGAIN! Just a couple of days before I was due to fly to Madrid to see King, Joyce sent me an invite to Steven Tai‘s AW16 Presentation during LFW weekend and I thought how this month was only getting better and better! I mean, in about 20 days or so I’ll be on a flight home to my beloved KL and reunited with my KBF family which also means my second term of this academic year will be ending soon!!! All of these events happening got me mad excited! And yes, I’ve ♪ reunited ♪ with Baby for our #TerribleTwoTravels ♫ and it feels so good ♫ but that’s another story for another day. I won’t reveal too much details but it was: EEE SERONOK! So… stay updated for our next post 😉

Tip: Follow @kinkybluefairy on Instagram for updates

I dragged Aizi (a musically talented, virtuous photographer and long time friend) along with me to the event so of course, we got amazing pictures! It’s always more fun at events when you’re there with people you love (sigh… wish you were here Goddess, King and Thambi). It was our first ever event that was in conjunction with London Fashion Week and to be honest, we were kind of intimidated. Haha! Also, I probably pressured him a little much about looking his best because I will NEVER embarrass you, Goddess and King!!!

Steven Tai is a Canadian designer based in London who graduated from Central St Martins and caught the eye of Yohji Yamamoto, who awarded him the Chloe award at the 2012 Hyères Festival. Before debuting his label, Steven worked at design houses such as Stella McCartney and Viktor & Rolf — all the designers just mentioned are my favourites; his career would be an absolute dream for me!

StevenTaiLFW16-2

His Autumn Winter 2016 collection called “Freaky Friday” is inspired by the phrase “an old soul”, for th women who would rather stay at home and Netflix than to party till dawn. A girl wise beyond her years who feels as though she’s really old and just trapped in a younger person’s body *cough* me *cough*.

Grandma chic aesthetics and nostalgia fuels this collection with the use of corduroys in navy, lavender, olive and beige; floral prints and patchwork fabric. Pearled eyeglass holder chains were also seen on most models giving them an ornamental look in the most elegant way, without looking decorative… did I mention I love pearls?

Watching the models knit and sew, rocking back and forth on their chairs made me realise how Steven Tai has brought the “old lady” look back to modern day. His use of reminiscence and sentimentality builds a sense of belonging that I’m sure most of us can relate to.
They were sweet and smiled for the cameras from time to time. A small gesture like this is always nice, no?

Make up review: Sephora Online

Comments (1) Beauty, Fashion, Style & Beauty, Sponsored Post

Upon my return from Tanzania, i was greeted in the office by a whole pile of packages, a couple of which were emblazoned with the Sephora logo.

Make up never fails to excite any girl, especially me!!
I noticed the interns nonchalantly hovering around trying to peek at its contents.

In the beginning i was a little perplexed, was this a Chinese New Year gift? A Valentine’s Day gift?
After going through my emails my memory was jolted on the occasion behind all the make up spread before us –

Sephora Malaysia is now online at Sephora.my!

Beauty fans can now shop for make up from the comfort of their desk or bed.
How utterly dangerous.

If you’re already familiar with buying make up online, you’d know of online beauty store Luxola. It has recently been acquired by Sephora, and rebranded as Sephora.my. So now it’s a one-stop online shopping site for the most coveted beauty must-haves from cult brands like Urban Decay, Make Up For Ever, Benefit Cosmetics, and tons more.

I can easily envision many-a-girl buying a lipstick on their lunch break.
If i was the head of IT at any company, i might see an influx of visits to Sephora from the office’s IP haha.

To celebrate Sephora Malaysia going online, the Sephora team kindly sent me personalized make up brushes (SO MUCH LOVE!!!) and a whole bunch of make up they thought i’d like:

NUDESTIX Magnetic Eye Color Pencil in Moon, Angel and Spirit.

NUDESTIX is a Canadian brand made in Brussels. The long wearing eye shadow pencil provides highlights, intense colour, precise lining and primes lids for all day wear.

I’d never heard of Mirenesse before this, but it’s certainly got my attention, as the 100% Australian-owned brand is free from parabens, alcohol, mineral oil, PG, SLS petrolatum, synthetic fragrance (which i’m allergic to); and it does not test on animals. Super win for me. Apparently it’s a win for others too, having garnered both local and international awards with its innovative anti-ageing products.

+ + + + + + +

Over the next two weeks during Chinese New Year, i tried all the make up and came up with a 10-minute application routine using a handful of my favourites:

The wonders of make up, a confident hand, and a little time.

I swear it only takes me 10 minutes (i don’t usually have the luxury of time to apply make up! Sometimes i run out of the house with just eyebrow pencil and eyeliner on. Sometimes… even barefaced. ?)

Christmas 2015

Comments (0) Musings & Personal

I know i’ve been so absent on the blog, so much has been happening in the past 6 months (when doesn’t it..!).
Went to Toyko, then it was Christmas, New Year’s,
went to Tanzania for 3 weeks- climbed Kilimanjaro, visited the safari, went diving on Mafia Island, visited Zanzibar, gambled in Dar es Salaam,
came home, then it was Chinese New Year,
then work HIT and we’re all back on track (or trying to) dealing with new pitches, reports, photoshoots, interviews, job bookings, emails that never end…

I have a LOT of blogging to catch up on, and a LOT of stories to tell!
They’re all gonna be coming in stream across the next few weeks so… be prepared for lots of photos!

I’m gonna get my Christmas post out of the way first. Cos it was almost 2 months ago. How time flies when you’re having fun.

This is a whole barrage of pix from my iphone during Xmas period:

Christmas 2015-28

My living room during Christmas! I was still deciding what colour to paint the wall. More recently i was talking to myself, “What colour would you paint it, if you didn’t care what anyone thought?” And my immediate mental retort was, “Pink!”

So at this point of time, my decision is still on pink.
Now it’s just deciding WHAT shade of pink it would be.

Christmas 2015-29

My kitchen! I really should do a single blogpost bout my new place but urm when i’m done with blogging about my trips la yeah.

Christmas 2015-7

Some Japanese homeware i got across two trips to Tokyo.

Shu Uemura presents calligraph:ink @ Segaris Art Centre

Comments (1) Beauty, Fashion, Style & Beauty

*written by Baby and Rachel*

I remember picking up my very first eyeliner back when I was in college, in 2012. Ever since then, I’ve never left the house without my eyeliner on. Well, with the exceptional occasion of trips to the neighborhood clinic. That’s because everyone who visits the clinic tends to look disheveled and I’m simply just blending in!

Over the years, I’ve tried and tested various types of eyeliners (pencil liners, gel liners, liquid liners) and watched tons of YouTube videos in the hopes of mastering eyeliner perfection. After a whole lot of research, I realized that drawing on one’s eyeliner really depends on the shape of your eyes. Technically, you can’t copy off whatever the YouTube beauty guru does because it might not be suitable for you.

As you can see, I’m an eyeliner girl. I take my eyeliner game seriously. So I was super stoked about Shu Uemura‘s calligraph:ink‘s launch.

The calligraph:ink liquid liner first made its way into the market back in 2014. Shu Uemura relaunched it this year after having upgraded it by enhancing its formula, allowing it to dry quicker, deliver longer-lasting and better wear for up to 18 hours.

Shu Uemura collaborated with local doodle artist dududedoodle to produce a series of artwork, solely using the calligraph:ink liquid liner on canvas.

The venue of the event held at Segaris Art Centre in Publika, was befitting as an artistic setting.

These little bears garnered a whole lot of attention. They were uber cute. How could they not, right?? I wanted to bring them hoooooome. I loved how each bear had different “personalities” all because of the style of eyeliner drawn on them.

There was the intellectual bear, elegant bear, know-it-all bear…. Yeah, I studied each and everyone of them very intently.

There were make-up stations where professional Shu Uemura make-up artists dolled us girls up, allowing us to experience the new calligraph:ink liner.

We got to choose the eyeliner style we wanted. Some of them were really bold which I found it to be only suitable for a Cleopatra-esque night out.
