Joyce: I’ve been away for almost two weeks in Australia, hence the silence on the blog! Priority was given to layan family, and any working hours were dedicated to emails. Since i wasn’t in KL, i got Baby/Faridah and Sheryl to represent at some events 😀 >>>
GLAM & GLAM LELAKI X COACH REBEL YOUTH
It was a special night for the two brands as they unveiled their first ever short fashion film produced by GLAM in collaboration with Coach where the Spring/Summer 2017 collection is featured.
The COACH 1941 collection is the pinnacle assortment of Ready-to-Wear, outerwear and accessories pair with their most innovative and experimental designs with the world’s finest leather and fabrics which was showcased at New York Fashion Week. Named after the year COACH was founded, Coach 1941 collection is all about luxury and quality with exquisite attention to details inspired by New York City!
Needless to say, this was personally, the most dernier cri event I’ve ever attended. Everyone looked like they were dressed to kill – leather jackets, studs, black lipstick – it was insane. It was also pretty cool having to experience something as exciting as this.
Held at EX8 in Subang, emcee for the night Sazzy Falak had a very glamorous entrance riding in on a Rascals Motor Club bike, and there was a special performance by OAG (which Tuti went bananas over).
Last Thursday night, my bf Desmond and I attended NUYOU’s annual trendsetter event held at Pavilion Elite. The ambience was loud, fun and exciting.
Everyone was mingling around and taking photos at the feature wall. There were drink sponsors scattered around the place, with Absolut Vodka being amongst the many. The event kickstarted with some performances followed by the emcee speech.
Drinks, performance, DKNY fashion show and me, Sheryl
The highlight of this year’s NUYOU event was the DKNY fashion show. Models strutted their way down the runway, with celebrities and distinguished influencers such as Amber Chia, Lucas Lau and Cherrie Mun watching from the front.
Irony is blogging about my recent trip to Australia… while i’m already back here again, this time for my cousin’s wedding in Sydney! This whole week is being spent with my family, and so far it’s been a lot of seafood + wine, layaning my mum taking bird photography, whilst squeezing in some work for a couple of hours in the mornings and evenings.
They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend but I think no, makeup is. Makeup has been around for millenniums – 12 to be exact and first started in Egypt! Can we consider Cleopatra a style icon? Back then, technology was limited and they made do with what they had, which didn’t necessarily mean they created good quality products that were safe for their skin. How SHOCKING (not really).
But that was back then. In current times with technology and science ever growing, there are plenty of makeup brands in the market. Here’s a Top 10 list of makeup brands (mostly Malaysian companies) that will soothe your conscience.
Orkid Cosmetics is a Malaysian company which produces everyone’s favourite kind of lipstick – a “Matte Suede Liquid Lipstick”. On top of that, they are also suitable for Muslims AND vegans! All of their products are halal and cruelty-free, allowing you to feel beautiful both inside and out.
Their Research & Development was done here in Malaysia and tested on their own people! Currently, The cosmetic line has 6 shades of matte liquid lipsticks on their website priced at RM 39.00 each! Personally, this price is a steal for me because makeup can get quite overpriced, especially international brands. Orkid Cosmetics has been featured by ELLE, Marie Claire and even Women’s Health this bright, bold 2017!
Madu Cosmetics (Cruelty-free + Paraben-free + Fragrance-free)
Malaysian artist / radio host / rapper, Hunny Madu, is the founder of Madu Cosmetics. From figuring out formulation, locking down shades and packaging – you can say she plays a big part in making her brand come together. As matte lipsticks are Hunny Madu’s favourite, she made sure she was manufacturing what she loves!
To make things sweeter (pun intended), her products are safe on sensitive skin and safe on animals too. Wait, don’t apply lipstick on your pet rabbit, what I meant was they’re cruelty-free! There are 7 shades from you to choose from all named after Hunny Madu’s favourite songs. Madu Cosmetics are also approved by our very own Ministry of Health (MOH/KKM) here in Malaysia!
PAINTed, short for Paint Education is a Malaysian-based company that manufactures their own “matte yet moisturizing” liquid lipsticks. Similar to many of the brands on this list, PAINTed is also vegan, cruelty-free and paraben-free! *jumps in excitement*
To add to your unnecessarily long list of lipsticks, PAINted has 6 different colours priced at RM 49.00 each. The names of their lipsticks are inspired by famous artists like Pinkcasso (I mean, Picasso)! PAINTed also has 2 of their “The PAINTed Drawer” collections priced at RM 139.00 each which saves you RM 90 FOR THREE LIPSTICKS! Is anyone else as excited as I am yet?
A few weeks ago, I flipped the calendar on my desk to show the month of March, and then it hits me. April is next. And we all know what that means. Well, if “Easter!!” is what you had in mind, we have a difference of opinion there (but still, YAY EASTER). The coming of April, means the coming of the one day a year you can prank your friends without being made to feel like a completely bad person. Why yes ladies and gentlemen, April Fool’s Day is almost upon us!
I hope you guys are excited (because I’ve been waiting for this day since April 2nd, 2o16). Whether you’re the kind of person who pulls small pranks every year to have a laugh with your friends, or one of those who devote April Fool’s Day to outdoing their pranks from the year before, I think we can all agree that watching our loved ones (and occasionally, strangers) fall for our pranks, however small, makes that little mischievous part of our brain sing and dance with joy.
I’d say I’m quite the prankster myself, having once gathered a group of friends to lock one of my mate’s house gates with a padlock we bought. Things went awry though when the one responsible for keeping the key (me T.T) lost it. As a consequence, all of us had to act as this friend’s driver, and food delivery person for the weekend until the locksmith was able to come and cut open the padlock (which we also had to fork out money for). However, my pranks are small-time compared to some funnier (and debatable) ones I have seen online >
The 2 Grams for $40 Prank
Nathan Fielder, a Canadian writer and comedian told his Twitter followers to text their parents the following message, “I got 2 grams for $40” and follow up immediately with another text reading “Sorry, ignore that txt. Not for you.”
He then told his followers to post the responses they got so they could all laugh about it.
I’m unsure of whether these were the results he expected, but this would make a pretty funny story to tell, well except for the victimized parents. The next two, however, took their prank one step further than the rest.
Oh boy, get ready for a barrage of pictures of my highlights in Taipei!
Thank you to Claire from Ever Rich who reached out to me via email to engage me for this trip. I returned to KL feeling grateful for all the good vibes i felt throughout my 5-night stay. In the beginning i was a little apprehensive cos it’s been a long time since i’ve scheduled myself to go on a bloggers’ trip by sending my team instead, so i didn’t know what to expect from a social landscape that is suddenly and seemingly unfamiliar to me.
Turns out, i felt very liberated to be myself. Maybe cos i was in the company of new people who carry no attachments to who i’m supposed to be, and everyone in the group very apparently accepted and embraced each other for their individual quirks and personalities. Once everyone got over being tired from traveling on the first day, it was very comfortable and so much fun to just be on this trip and enjoy every aspect of it. Also, everyone was very NICE! Every person in the group was very gracious and generous with the knowledge they had on blogging + photo-editing and exchanging tips amongst each other. Really sweet to watch!
Many thanks also to Jim from Lion Travel who very patiently and constantly spurted historical and informative facts of Taiwan to us, regardless of who was listening. It’s hard to keep bloggers enthralled when OOTDs command higher priority at times ?
Here we go!
The morning after we arrived, we were all to meet in the hotel lobby at 8am to set off for Ever Rich’s press conference held in their flagship building. My judgement for time was: meet at 8am, wake up at 7am to get ready..? I heard the others woke up at 6am to curl their hair and apply make up. I was like ‘whattttt dedicationnnnn’
Vice Chairman of Ever Rich Samuel Wu giving a speech on stage. Actually, it was the first time i experienced a dozen people taking to the stage to give a few words! It must be polite Taiwanese culture to do so!
I went on stage with blogger Laureen Muy of Break My Style from Bangkok, to casually chat about our experiences (or lack of, in my case) in Taiwan. The country has been noted down on my bucket list in my phone for 5 years..! I’ve been recommended by like-minded travel friends to go there due to its culture, scenery, food and shopping. It seems to be a unique place that has a balance of many things that i would enjoy so i was stoked to be there for the blog and have everything planned out for me 😀
Mamo and Tuniez from Bangkok, Vice Chairman Samuel Wu, Daphne from KL, Peggy Lu from Taiwan, and moi.
