Ahh it’s been so long since i blogged cos you know… LIFE. ADULTING. Work, errands, paying bills, chasing after property management on some burst pipe or faulty flooring cos it’s flooding my tenant’s bathroom! And on the other hand, still having lots of fun and enjoying the ride and high of LIFE.
A significant episode in my life recently was Aps & Jamie’s wedding in Kuching! Aps had asked me to be one of her bridesmaids and i tried to be as angelic as possible… She gave me a pressie for everything last week so i think i did good!
This blogpost is bout the long Merdeka weekend on which they got married in Kuching – Jamie’s hometown!
A whole bunch of us were flying in from KL, with Danny and Jess on the same flight as me. Us three separately made our way to KLIA2 and on the way there… ran into a horrendous traffic jam on the highway cos of some minor accident that people slowed down to stare at (WHY MALAYSIANS WHY!?). I sat in the car whatsapping them frantically and they said they too were in the same jam. I’d left the apartment with half hour to spare but it was still cutting it close, but as i know, you can’t force life when it does stuff like this so i just slumped back into my seat and surrendered to the universe. If I missed it then i’d just buy the next flight, no choice!
I ran into the airport and headed to the kiosk to quickly cram my IC into the slot. On my direct left and right were Jess and Danny, we’d all arrived at the same minute. It was too late to check in via the kiosk so we busted straight for the counter where they charged us RM10 each for printing the boarding pass. Whatever cos we made it! RM10 to not miss the flight = WIN. Rahul & Nita on the other hand missed theirs later that day… #facepalm
There was a circular rainbow around the sun when we landed in Kuching, aka sun halo or 22 degree halo – caused by sunlight passing through ice crystals in cirrus clouds within the Earth’s atmosphere.
Also, the skies in Kuching are BLUE. I really miss blue skies ala Bali too… we’re so used to the grey-blue sky in KL that we forget how polluted it is…
First arvo was spent catching up with everyone else at the pool and drinking RM28-per-Tiger-beer-can that the Hilton sells. Danny almost fell over when he saw the bill for everyone’s beer.
Jess be my roomie <3 We’ve done a bit of traveling together – Laos, Jakarta, Awanmulan and now Kuching!
Sunset view from our room
We stayed in Kuching for one night before moving to Ironwood Valley Farm the next day, where the wedding was being held and half the bridal party were invited to stay too. It’s an amazing piece of family-owned property an hour away from Kuching city, surrounded by lust tropical forest and a lake someone considered jumping into but decided against.
I think there are four living areas – ample space for the almost 30 pax staying there for 2 nights!
Baby / Faridah is taking part in a bartending competition tonight! When April and her went to L&L in July, they had to come up with their own signature drink and theirs got shortlisted for the KL Amateur Bartender Challenge Final 2017!
Sponsored by Spirit Cartel, the KL ABC will be judged by industry veterans Junior Joe, Deepak Gill and Mark Robert; and hopes to highlight bartending skills of people who do it as a passion than profession. There will also be a pop-up bar set up for the event so drop by!
MAKE ME PROUD BABY! 😛
Edit: Baby won 3rd place!! Woohoo!! Skill

Pix below are when i dropped by L&L for the KL Rum Fiesta that happened a few weeks ago, held in collaboration with two other bars – Junglebird and Coley’s.
This are really old pictures (from a few months ago) but i felt compelled to write a little about the movement i’ve been participating in this week, and didn’t get any shots of recent so am chucking these in.
My first experience at Aloha was back in May for Claudia’s birthday, when she gathered a group of us to spin and have dinner after.
… had way more balloons than any birthday party i ever had! ‘Twas my first time at their house even though they just live 10 minutes down the road from me (which i just discovered) and their garden and living room is so massive, i didn’t feel a single bit overwhelmed by the amount of high-energy toddlers and children running around. There was so much SPACE which was awesome!
Gobi and i chirped up how we were the only adults wearing lots of colour, and how appropriate it is that one wears lots of colour to a kids’ party! And. We matched. Picture.
Gobz, me, Mya, Faye, Leia.
Chek & Mary & Myra. Thanks for a great party guys!!
The complexity of all the balloons the party had was impressive! Courtesy of balloon artist and clown Leroy and his gf Milly – who are both really nice! Mary told me they came extra early to decorate the wall, and i noticed them staying a little later making the adults some too even though their hands were tired from all the tying. It’s tough getting away from tipsy adults cajoling one for balloons…
I tend to write random notes in my evernote (never read by anyone especially if they’re late night intoxicated ramblings 🙄 ) Wrote this a few months ago:
“I just went for my 2nd session of Brazilian IPL (weakens hair roots causing lighter and less hair growth), 4 more to go! I didn’t expect such a drastic difference after just the first session… the reduction of hair growth was so surprising! So i’m really semangat to be disciplined bout making it to my appointments now (there needs to be 5 weeks in between each app for optimum results).
Most IPL machines out there use a 3cm applicator and can only emit a sharp burst of concentrated energy on an area at a time, but Strip uses their patented Powerpac IPL machine uses a one-of-a-kind 5cm crystal applicator that emits energy gradually providing a more effective & comfortable hair reduction over a wider area. I know all this cos i studied the press release for the machine before haha!”
And then i stopped there, intending to continue as my sessions continued.
I methodically went for my 3rd session, and then… i went to Indonesia for over a month, came back and my IPL sess wasn’t a priority what with all these things i had to deal with, so i finally went for my 4th session yesterday (i’m doing treatments on my underarm and brazilian area) and got a looooong lecture from my therapist cos i didn’t go for so long!
The process for IPL is such that i undress and lie down on a bed covered with soft comfy purple towels, with another one atop me. The therapist comes in and inspects the hair growth before shaving everything off. I’m not allowed to shave until she does it for me, cos she’s supposed to be able to study where the hair is most concentrated. This is totally okay with me cos by the 3rd sess, the hair goes back in a sparse soft fuzz.
After shaving and applying powder, she hands me a pair of protective sunglasses to wear and applies cooling gel (which is very cold but necessarily so!) to the treated areas. The Powerpac machine is turned on and i daydream while she quickly moves the 5cm applicator that emits the intense pulse light back and forth over the areas. It’s relatively painless and i fall asleep sometimes, but she constantly asks me to let her know if it gets hot so she can adjust the settings or apply more cooling gel.
