I merrily popped confetti in the bedroom. In truth, i would have loved to have fallen asleep nestled among shiny blue, red and green spirals of metallic paper before awakening in it as well, but they were hastily cleaned up.
I took my time getting ready to go out. Seeing it was New Year’s Day, i wanted it to be a chill out day. Looking good and feeling even better. I carefully ironed a white dress, slipped on white sandals and had my white-rimmed sunglasses perched atop my head.
Happy, sunny outfit! Too bad it looked like it was going to storm -_-
… But still! Happy sunny outfit!
Thinking back, i can’t help feeling slightly guilty that i don’t give much of a rat’s ass when it comes to wearing new clothes for Chinese New Year but i semangat dress up for New Year’s Day. >.<
Had burgers, Guinness and scotch ginger ale at Chilli’s before oh-rowdy-one and me trolled through KLCC.
Dahlah before that i bought a(nother) Flower Fairy sticker book and Dr. Seuss’ Oh, The Thinks You Can Think in Kinokuniya. I read it ages ago when i was a kid, and seeing the book again conjured up memories of encouragement for flighty imagination and all things whack.
They’ve moved the children’s fairy book section to the shelf behind Dr. Seuss and as i knelt on the floor forcing myself to put back some of the books so as not to purchase them, a little girl of about five stood right next to me. She stared curiously, looking me up and down. I, unable to have the ability to stare unabashedly as does that of a child, looked away and noticed her cartoon fish sneakers from the corner of my eye.
A few minutes later, i overheard FishSneakerKid telling her mother, “No, not this one. I want the fairy one.”
I beamed inwardly.
Looking to my right, i saw her mother sifting through the other books, “Where is it…”
After they couldn’t find what she was looking for, i spoke up to FishSneakerKid, “If you really want fairy books, there’s a whole shelf just behind this one…” I gestured to the front of me, while bobbing my head with big helpful eyes.
FishSneakerKid ignored me and her mum said, “I think she wants this particular one she had just now… then she hid it here or something!”
Man. I keep on getting dissed by kids of late okay.
RowdyRudy wanted to go to the Apple store to get this alarm clock to go with his iPod. It was sold out and i ended up walking out with a charger for mine -_-
Then i wanted to check out the LG Viewty cos my bloody Nokia 3250 has been hanging on me every time i send an sms and i have to return the Dopod (that always crashes on me -_-) once i quit end of Jan. Retailing at 2K, it looks great, touchscreen and all, but i was quite disappointed by its picture quality.
Might as well just stick to getting a better digicam and much smaller hp. I don’t know. I’ll keep hunting but i’m already tempted to buy the same Sony Ericsson as RowdyRudy, DatinTini and two others on my team have.
We went to see what’s up in Banana Republic. Rudy went right. I went left.
And we didn’t have contact for a good 15 minutes cos we were too engrossed checking out everything that was on sale.
Again, evil sale signs. 30%. 50%… Die.
I picked out two dresses to try (Danger, danger!) – a sleeveless blue silk babydoll with embroidery on the upper chest area, and another babydoll of soft grey wool with pleats down the front.
Not only were they a perfect fit, but the cutting was fantastic as well.
RowdyRudy came to give his opinion as i twirled in it, “Ooh… very nice. Very you! *touches silk* Ooh..!”
At first, i told myself i’d allow the purchase of one dress. Just one. Think about Bangkok, Joyce, think about Bangkok. And as i placed them at the cashier where Rudy was already paying for his purchases, i picked up a third dress to try on – a dark blue silk shift with butterfly sleeves and a silk ribbon to tie round the middle into a bow at the front.
Besides the fact that they were half price off each (Wow! What a steal, man!) i got suckered by their design, material and detail.
So… since i had to choose between three, i gave myself an allowance of two.It just made sense, see.
>.<
“I think we’re very bad for each other!” i told RowdyRudy, cos we’re always egging each other on to get ‘just one more shot’, buy another gadget, go for another holiday, or in this case, buy everything we liked cos it’s on sale.
Plus i just went to the ATM thinking that by withdrawing more money, i wouldn’t have to visit it for another three days, at least. Super tak jadi sial.
CherubicCho and i were rushing out of Gardens to head for our separate plans. He was going to play poker, and i, to No Black Tie to watch Reza Salleh, Shelley Leong, Az Samad, Pete Teo, and many others perform. (It was super packed. I already booked a table for Thursday night.)
“Hey, wait, walk this way, i want to walk through the bag section!” i tugged him to walk another route through Isetan.
So we pottered past some bags – DKNY, Marc Jacobs, Anya Hindmarch – “Ooh look! They’re all on sale!” said Cho.
“Oh my god. Die.”
They were like land mines, those sale signs. 30%. 50%.
“You should buy! So worth it! Tomorrow it will be gone!” exclaimed Cho.
The fellow damn evil. Worse then Kanch, i swear.
I fondled the bags So pretty… so pretty… oh no… OH NO
Then my brain did that memory loss thing, where next thing i know, i found myself filling up a form over the purchase of a giant Anya Hindmarch one.
My thoughts have been going back and forth between, “Weeee!!!” and “Fuck, what did i just do.”
Going back there today to pick it up cos i’m paying with cash and not card. Definitely not card 0_o
Christmas really feels like its being celebrated for twelve days this year.
Every day has involved either a Christmas party (or two), family dinner or partying.
Taken at La Bodega Pavilion on Christmas Day
Next to me is my cousin JingHua; with her unidentical twin below me, JingHui; and next to her is my AuntyGerry.
AuntyGerry’s back from London for two weeks so we’ve all been layaning her like mad.
I took her to twenty.one last night, drove back to Valencia and we both passed out on her bed.
Sounds so much like seven years ago when she used to drag me out drinking in London till we could barely walk home.
Introduced her to DM at twenty.one
“Why hasn’t Mummy and Daddy met him yet?” she asked
“Because. It’s still so new..!”
Then she invited him to two family dinners when i wasn’t paying attention.
0_o
Poor fellow wasn’t free for one and she loudly asked, “So, what is it that you’re so busy with tomorrow? How important is she to you? How much do you like her?” to which he was like, “Er…”
0_o
I was slapping myself and cringing into my choc orange martini.
See, why pepper the poor fellow you’re seeing with questions like this when you can have extroverted relatives do it for you.
Then because he can’t make it, Dan from twenty.one happily offered himself as my date for the family dinner and even FB-ed me just now, “What time is our family dinner babe?!?”
My mum is cooking for the family dinner tonight and everything smells great.
I know from young that she doesn’t want my help in the kitchen, former declarations being that i’m in her way and i can’t do anything, so i’m just sitting at the pc blogging.
Tiba-tiba she calls from the kitchen, “Joyce Wong.”
… When she calls me by my full name, either i’m in trouble, or she wants me to do something important.
“Yes?”
“Can you do something…”
“… Yes, what do you want me to do?”
“I’ve cooked everything, can you please help sort out the drinks for tonight?”
“Oh! Wine? Of course i can!” *starts plotting what drinks to buy*
Then i notice she’s still standing there, “Not just wine. People have to drink other things also okay ”
“… Oh >.< “
Dammit because i wanted to blog abit but i have to run to get ready, get lost driving drive to Valencia to pick AuntGerry up and then to Selangor Club… which i *also* don’t know the way to.
Die.
Here’s a pic of one of the lovely gourmet burgers at Daily Grind, which i went to last week with IceCalvin.
I’ve been on burger frenzy of late, gorging on burgers from BK, Carl’s Junior, La Bodega, Jarrod & Rawlins, and Relish to the latest burger outlet addition in town – The Daily Grind – located in Bangsar Village, just next to Starbucks.
Chermoula Avocado Madness, RM32
Chicken patty with smooth avocado cream covered in hot salsa
I had a chicken burger too (with Norwegian smoked salmon, cheese sauce + extra pickled onions), don’t know why i felt like it though, cos in heart, i’m a medium rare beef eater *rowr!*
Working next to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur has its perks of trying out all the new bars and restaurants due to convenience of timing and distance.
AshleyTheMonkey works at The Carat Club now (supposed to blog about their dinner cos they gave me a diamond to do so… but they haven’t sent me pictures yet, ho hum) and asked me whether i wanted to lunch there one day.
Me, always wanting to try new places, went, “OKAY!!” immediately.
The C. Club consists of two floors directly above Coach at the main entrance of Pavilion.
One thing i don’t get is why they serve Jacob’s Creek when we feel it’s more of an atas place.
But i still ordered it anyway >.<
(AshleyTheMonkey told me that) They’re going to have an oyster tank in soon!
I love oysters… i can’t wait till the next time i’m feeling peckish and spoilt, then i’m just going to run there from the office and scoff them silly daintily.
She was saying i *must* try the Belon since i haven’t yet.
RM23++ an oyster. Damn. I’m going to savour it slowly sial -_-
That’s my apple + celery consomme, Ash had the mushroom soup (they’re about RM12-14 each. Ish. I can’t remember properly, sorry)
They were super.
And the food… was even more super.
We shared two mains – the duck confit and the cod.
The portions are pretty small, but not overtly so, and the texture and taste just makes up for it to the point i was sighing in pleasure.
The mains were about RM 40-something to 60-something (depending on what you were having), which is all fine and dandy with me compared to bloody Mexican restaurant Carlos (which IceCalvin, JustinYap and i went to before the Club Monaco launch) whose mains cost roughly the same… teamed with quarter the service and half the taste.
After happy afternoon lunching, Ash took me on a tour around the place.
The Carat Club import in other brands from overseas as well.
Ash knew her shit man, and explained why this was expensive, and where that was from, and how that was made.
“Oh, there’s a fairy vase as well.”
“Ooh!” *bounds towards glass case*
Then she showed me this crystal table which cost 300k.
“The chairs are gorgeous… but 300k?!” “YuP.”
“… if i bought this now, i’ll put it in the middle of the road and drape a plastic over it. Then. I’d have to sit under it and LIVE there. Cos i won’t be able to live anywhere else. -_- “
But cool right the chairs? (the chairs aren’t for sale, bummer.)
I love the chairs. One day, i’ll buy myself these sweet chairs. Then i’ll just… sit on them. And wait for my servants to… feed me Cappanelle shiraz from a crystal glass while my nails are being done while i blog.
Shit i sound like Kanch. -_-
This here is a special staircase.
“It’s the only one in Malaysia!” quipped Ash.
“Erm… okay… *stares perplexedly at so-called special winding staircase*… and why is it so special?”
Apparently cos it’s the only winding staircase without a tiang/pillar in the middle to support it.
Ash has the keycard to the jewelry cases so she showed me some and i tried them on.
Above is one that costs RM59k.
I showed DM the pics in my camera and he commented it looked really big for 59k.
“It’s 1 carat…”
“It looks big there… oh. Your fingers are so tiny!”
CherubicCho and i were talking diamonds last night and i mentioned that bit.
Cho: Moral of the story is…
Me: ?
Cho: Only date a girl with small hands so the diamond always looks big!
Me: -_-
I told LaughingLoga the babble i was blurting when i had it on in the store, “So it’s like, the price of the car i want to buy! Except, hey! It’s sitting on my finger. And it has no wheels… and it’s much tinier… And it’s shinyyyyy. *crazy glinting eyes*”
“… Who was next to you when you were saying this?”
“Just Ashley…”
“Okay good, and she’s your friend right. So you weren’t scaring people.”
“Bastard.”
See the pink string? Well it’s actually made out of silver and the company producing it devised a way to dye it.
I think the long necklace costs like, 5k or something.
I was seeing stars and feeling like a magpie after that.
Pei from staring at shiny things so intently. 0_o
