I was reading through the press release for the upcoming Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix and got so blown away that i couldn’t wait to start writing this blogpost!!!
Seriously, when you’re done with this post,
TELL ME that you don’t want to go.
And i’ll tell you that you’re missing out on LIFE.
Mr. Lova Lova!
My favourite song from him will forever be Oh Carolina.
Memories of me carefully putting in the CD (CDs were new back then!) and dancing to it in the living room while my parents were at work.
It makes sense to me why they’re naming the event Live Louder Than Life.
There’s gonna be SO MUCH MUSIC!
Not including the ENERGY from the F1 races,
the electrifying atmosphere,
and dance parties galore.
I’m not even HALFWAY done with the things there are to do yet…
I’m not even going to write them all down here cos it’d be too much!
Just gonna write down TWO other things i’m looking forward to:
Another thing i really want to watch is this French performance called Transe Express.
Pied Piper procession of percussionists,
who are lifted 40 metres off the ground,
complete with trapeze stunts in midair?!
The French are truly crazy.
Like i said, everything i’ve mentioned so far,
is not even HALF of all the stuff going on at the Singapore Grand Prix.

I know i always say i’m busy,
but i’ve been so busy that
i worked thru the 2nd end of the Raya week
slept at 2am on Sunday morning (blog work)
woke up at 8am to go to the office
and have been in rushful rat race since.
A few things have happened since a week ago.
First. I found out that my old babysitter has cancer.
I didn’t want to write anything about this before.
Cos i didn’t know what to write.
I didn’t know what to say.
And i think i was just… accepting and letting it all sink in.
Many of my generation had babysitters when we were born, right up till primary school.
This was just while my parents were at work so they could continue bringing in the bread while having someone watch over my brother and i.
My babysitter is like… my second mother.
She cleaned up my shit, taught me how to talk,
scolded me when i was naughty,
ignored me when i sulked for hours the floor,
laughed at my childish silliness,
and watched me grow up.
I spent so many hours and days of my growing up years with her and her husband.
This year we’ve been getting more coverage from Chinese media,
which is fantastic and not something i figured would happen…
i’m one of the worst bananas in KL (= cannot speak Chinese).
Thanks very much to Khang Nee from newtide magazine Malaysia:
I remember that writer Khang Nee sent us a staggering 35 interview questions.
I was like, ohmygod answering this is like writing a book!
Chelle and i looked at it and were like, “Er, don’t understand anything but the pictures look nice!” Sorry we’re so fail. In our defense Chelle speaks fluent Mandarin…
All clothes we’re wearing in the pictures are from our Leftblock label.
Early last month i blogged that we had a shoot with Hong Kong Weekend Weekly magazine.
Pion and her team flew down from Hong Kong to write about the fashion scene in KL,
and said she’d like to include me in the pictures.
I didn’t know she meant almost ALL the pictures in the feature…
my face is splattered across 8 pages
Thanks very much Pion!
Even tho i need someone to translate what you said for me (harhar) the pictures all look great!
In conjunction with Heineken’s Open Your World tagline,
the beer brand has just launched a new iPhone app incorporating augmented reality technology.
Finally!
I’ve been reading up about what other brands have been doing overseas
and Heineken is taking the first step in Malaysia with iPhone apps!
This is so fun cos you get to ‘open’ floating Heineken bottles all around Malaysia
by scanning your surroundings with the phone’s camera.
Every bottle you open leads to points, which in turn leads to prizes:
Grand Prize x1 Trip for 2 to Amsterdam!!!
Special Prizes x4
Branded Digital Tablet
Tip & Treats Treats worth RM50 or RM200 –
choose from range of experiences like a gourmet spread,
lessons to be a pilot for a day,
tips on how to be a rock star
Anyway i just installed the app
and allowed it to scan my location wherever i am
By clicking on the ‘Open Your World’ tab,
i get to view a map with Heineken bottle caps sprinkled all over the place at various locations
See the blue dot? That’s where i was!
Nearby 1 Utama at the time picture was taken
Moving the map to view KL city,
it’s got HEAPS MORE Heineken bottle caps!!!
Seeing i was in PJ, i called Ashley out for lunch with me at 1 Utama,
just so i could try ‘opening’ one of these virtual Heineken bottles!
There’s one at TGIF @ 1 Utama, so i opened the app while right outside the restaurant,
hoping i didn’t have to walk inside to find the virtual bottle and try explaining myself :p
The app confirmed my location using GPS
and the screen changed to camera mode while showing me instructions on where to turn,
quite cool!
It said to keep on turning left…
so i did…
And TADA!
Found a floating Heineken bottle complete with a virtual bottle opener
I had to ‘flick’ the phone to ‘open’ the Heineken bottle
Pardon me people.
I’m doing something that you may not understand but TRUST,
this public wrist-flicking will be worth it
(AMSTERDAMMMM)
Damn i just couldn’t get it open,
maybe cos i was a bit too scared cos i’m 95% butterfingers.
Ash had a go.
And she got it opened!
She doesn’t even drink a quarter as much as me
and she can open a virtual beer bottle i can’t
So i got 10 points for now… ranking me 78th
And some ‘tip’ that alcohol affects women more than men
No prizes for me yet
Who’s this Peck Chin Fai?!
How many did you open?!
Anyway the contest for the Opener app runs till first week of October,
so let the Opener games begin!
Search ‘Heineken Opener’ on your iPhone apps
or download it *here*
Because Clem and i didn’t know we were both getting automatic leave on Friday the 2nd, we didn’t plan to go anywhere.
By the time we could, tix to fly anywhere nearby was RM800 per person return.
No way.
I know we can pay much less than that!
We wanted to go to the beach but i was wary about the traffic seeing EVERYONE ELSE is out of the city!
So we decided to book ourselves into the Hilton and pretend we’re somewhere else.
I’ve stayed at the Hilton numerous times since 5 years ago…
and i think experiencing new places like Villa Samadhi and Dusun have raised the bar for holiday sanctuaries.
Clem and i looked around thinking, “Hmm it’s kinda small….”
I was like, “No, but this IS the same size of room i used to stay in!” And then we realised that staying in the Marina Bay Sands suite has spoiled us for life.
FOR LIFE.
To think that the Hilton room is small,
when i used to clamour to stay there whenever possible!
*slaps self*
Still, there is nothing like breakfast in bed there.
Even Clem, the veteran critic of American breakfasts, loved it.
(His all time favourite is the one at Jarrod & Rawlins)
Bedhead and brekkie for 2
I LOVE the bedding at the Hilton.
I want to buy all the pillows…
and the bedsheet…
and the duvet…
I even tried arranging them strategically for me to flop on.
Runny yolkkkkkk
We had cocktails by the pool in the afternoon.
‘Twas so strong i felt tipsy before finishing one :p
I just started Keith Richards’ Life.
Everyone said it’s brilliant.
So far, i think Anthony Kiedis’ lyrical prose in Scar Tissue commands more of my admiration than Life.
Then again, let me finish it entirely and i’ll tell you what i think.
We always forget to take pictures of just the two of us when we’re on ‘holidays’.
So now i always REMEMBER TO.
