An excerpt from their article:

“It feels like it was just last night when we were partying with Joyce, sipping freshly-pressed juice at her infamous blog, KinkyBlueFairy’s 11th anniversary party. The event was in the presence of colourful and vivacious party goers with equally exciting setup – balloon bouquets and sparkly décor against catchy beats from guest performers like Reza Salleh and DJ duo, Twinkies. The blogger queen’s choice of birthday suit? A silver sequin haltered dress in a mini skirt streamlining her petite body. In true Joyce fashion, her hair was bobbed in bright purple with streaks of neon pink, notably different from when we last had a chat with her, a week before the birthday bash. Much like her bubbly and unequivocal personality, it was a night filled with party-friendly atmosphere. There were familiar people around and a few fresh faces who were surely weaving their way into the circle of It-posse that Joyce is typically surrounded with. Of course, being in the scene for a decade plus now warrants her social accolade that she deservingly acquires. It’s easy to see the “Joyce” appeal that everyone is drawn to – she talks assertively and takes no flack for expressing her opinions. She is true to herself and ever so generous with her sometimes cheeky but honest smile. Don’t confuse the friendly gesture for one of a naive girl though, she is anything but.”

Wow guys, thanks for saying such nice things about me to the world hahaha!!

Dior Beauty Boutique Launch @ Mid Valley KL

Comments (1) Beauty, Fashion, Style & Beauty

It was during a crazy-run-around day that i popped by the Dior Beauty Boutique launch, situated on the ground floor of MV. I thought it might be a small blogger/media do, and was so surprised to see how crowded it was from afar! Sometimes you really can’t tell how an event is going to turn out… you go to one thinking it’ll be an intimate thing and BOOM big party going on.

Love Bonito Tea Party & Styling Event @ Ben’s Publika with Raja Nadia Sabrina, Shea Rasol and Maria Elena Zarul

Comments (0) Fashion, Fashion, Style & Beauty

Three weeks ago, KinkyBlueFairy did a fashion event and the PR for Love Bonito, one of our regular clients who is Singapore’s leading online fashion label.

It’s so easy to market their brand because their apparel has cuts that suit the Asian woman’s body perfectly and they’re so up-to-date with designs and silhouettes that easily transcend various tastes and styles. I always have friends asking me where i got a particular piece of clothing from that really stands out and i’ll proudly exclaim, “Love Bonito!”

For the first time, Love Bonito decided to hold a styling event especially for girls who don the hijab and we got on board three major fashion personalities in KL to host a styling session for their friends and fans at Ben’s, Publika – Raja Nadia Sabrina, Shea Rasol, and Maria Elena Zarul.

Every guest had a little Love, Bonito booklet (designed by Joe!) that was specially printed for the event, and soaps from Slim Sabun (made by Steph). Slim Sabun soaps are locally-made, all natural, and free from SLS (sodium laureth sulfate), parabens, fragrance, and phthalates. The cold process soaps are made with real heavy cream or yoghurt, and have such delicious names i felt like eating them instead of washing with them!

I’m wearing these earrings i bought from Saya Jewellery in Bali that remind me of multiple hoops… i couldn’t resist.

Shu uemura did the make up for the models that day, and had a little beauty booth to show off Yazbukey for shu uemura – a limited edition collaboration collection with Paris-based accessory and jewellery designer Yaz Bukey.

Just a little plug here: If you fancy make up your weapon of artistry, you should probably check out their make up competition that welcomes all beauty enthusiasts, professional and non-professional. Shu uemura’s “The Beauty Art Make Up Competition 2015” is on from now until 15th June!

I’m wearing a turban from ByJap, and jumpsuit from Love Bonito (of course).

I donned the turban to achieve a more halal look but having not worn the jumpsuit before, little did i know that there was a giant keyhole in the back so it became not so halal after all.

Penang: INCH + Plates

Comments (1) Malaysia, Penang

*Written by Joe Kwan*

About a month ago, Joyce casually dropped me an email, inviting me to check out INCH and Plates in Penang as she was too busy that weekend to attend herself. It had been a busy couple of months at work and I did not hesitate to accept the invitation.

Fast forward a couple of weeks, I found myself groggily stepping off a plane on a hot and lazy Sunday morning. A short cab ride later, I arrived at my accommodation for the evening and with hardly any time to spare, snuck a quick power nap and resurrected to make myself appear presentable. The morning heat seemed to have doubled as I walked along the quaint shophouses, and I soon (plus a minor detour because I am directionally challenged) found myself at the door step of INCH and Plates.

If you haven’t heard of them, they are THE new ‘It’ hang out spots situated in the heart of George Town, hidden amongst the famed UNESCO World Heritage shophouses. Sharing the same shophouse, they are two separate restaurants offering different cuisines.

The entrance to INCH and Plate is easily distinguished by its big red double doors with the number 44 hanging above it.

There is nothing discreet about it, as a spectrum of colours and traditional motifs breathe new life into vintage kitsch.

I LIVE for a good vintage tilework.

Once you’re inside however, the decor takes a turn for subtlety, with various earth tones couple with rustic textures such as wood and exposed brick to provide a cosy environment that is perfect for the venue. They’ve managed to find the perfect balance of modern contemporary design while still being able to preserve the beautiful traditional facade of the building. I was in interior heaven.

This portion of the venue is Plates, which is only open during the day, catering to the brunch crowd. I was there for the Chill-Out Bubbly Brunch. I’ve never had a bubbly brunch before but I’ve realised that it’s a trend that’s grown rapidly in KL.

Mercury in Retrograde May 19 – June 11

Comments (1) Spiritual, Spiritual, Health & Develop

At the end of April, we were having a meeting about our schedule for May.

Me: *as i flipped through the pages of my moleskine* Oh by the way, I’m doing my detox from 20th to 22nd May, so i’m out of action, which means no meetings, no office time and no events cos it’s so intense. It’s a perfect time tho, cos Mercury also happens to be in retrograde…”
Baby shocked me with her dramatic response, “Ughhh!!! I HATE it when Mercury is in retrograde!”
Me: Well it’s gonna happen anyway, so we just have to deal with it and chill

Last year when Mercury was in retrograde, all these crazy dramas were happening based purely on miscommunication via cellphone, and emails crashing. I remember i was working from Sydney at the time, juggling a ton of emails just before the Love Bonito fashion show in Publika, and whatasapping furiously about Vincent going missing and the police having to go to his house. In the end, he just happened to have left his phone in the car, gone into artistic hermit mode, and everyone thought he got kidnapped or was dead.

That’s one of the most dramatic Mercury in retrograde situations i’ve been close to.

When Mercury goes into retrograde (usually 3-4 times a year), it looks like it’s stationary from Earth while our planet ‘catches up’ with it. I totally believe in the placement of our surrounding planets and stars affecting us, so i’m all for believing such a phenomenon is bound to affect us in some way.

“Astrologically, Mercury represents the principles of communication, mentality, thinking patterns, rationality and reasoning, and adaptability and variability. Mercury governs schooling and education, the immediate environment of neighbors, siblings and cousins, transport over short distances, messages and forms of communication such as post, email and telephone, newspapers, journalism and writing, information gathering skills and physical dexterity.

In Chinese astrology, Mercury represents Water, the fourth element, therefore symbolizing communication, intelligence, and elegance.” [source]

One is told to expect breakdowns in communication in all forms- whatsapp messages, verbal conversations, phone calls, etc. Because the universe just won’t LET you go about your day and work life as per normal, it’s said to be a good time to slow down and reevaluate what’s going on in your life.

“These three weeks are meant to be a contemplative period where we review past ideas and insights we’ve had, activities we’ve been involved with, projects that we’re are working on, communications with others and all the plans we’ve been making.” [source]

I even wrote down on the first page of my moleskine at the beginning of the year all the phases Mercury would go into retrograde this year so i’m prepared for it.

“Jan 21 – Feb 11, May 19 – June 11, and Sept 17 – Oct 9

During retrograde one is advised to: remain flexible, allow time for extra travel (or avoid traveling if you can afford it), avoid signing contracts, good time to review projects and plans, and try not make final decisions till after.”

You can read more by googling it, it’s everywhere.
