Bali: Nyepi Day + Monkey Forest @ Ubud

Comments (9) Bali, Travel

After spending a day at Dreamland,
we made our way North to Ubud
and managed to find a new guesthouse for the night
(thanks to talking to locals and getting recommendations from them!
they even offered us arak while doing so!)

Ubud

Counter at the lobby – Hindu Lord Ganesha, Japanese Maneki Neko, and Balinese er something

Ubud

View from front of our room

When we checked in, i was told there was no air con
And (giving my reason for not being diva here!) i’m just very used to air con
cos i’ve been sleeping with it since i was a kid :p

“There’s no air con baby… but the room is nice.”
“I’m going to DIE.” *looks up at ceiling fan in mock faint*

Ubud

After breakfast, we set out to:

– find accommodation with bigger pool for next two nights
Nyepi Day was the next day, and everything was going to be shut,
so we needed a place to just hang out at ALL day

– find champignon

– stock up on beer and food for next day

– (and for me) find a pre-paid card for my BlackBerry access.
I used Simpati (90,000 rupiah for 1 week unlimited data including SIM card)

Ubud

The place i got my Simpati card also sold lotsa colourful sarongs

Waiting at a random bar for the boys.

Market, Ubud

Went for a quick walk around Ubud market.
Man, the prices there have really risen ever since the locals realise they can sell their things for so much for to tourists!

Clem and i saw a really cool collection of 5 elephants cast from metal.

“There’s mommy and daddy…*pointing to 2 largest ellies* There’s the children… *points at the 2 small ellies* And that’s the urm… *stops at middle-sized ellie*”
“That’s the maid.”   :xlaughing:
“…!!!”   :xshocked:
“HAHAHA”
 :xlaughing:
“You and i come from really different backgrounds here.” :xwhatevah:

Ubud

Went to a reggae bar to chill out for a bit

I practically attacked the waitress to inquire where they got the gold deco from   :xshy:

‘Twas a nice afternoon,
we drank beer,
blew bubbles down onto the street,
danced around by ourselves,
and i took a picture of an old lady before we left.

We stopped by to check out the Ubud Monkey Forest,
and were so lucky cos the ticket counter was closed and went in for free   :xlaughing:

Monkey Forest, Ubud

I’ve got a wee phobia of monkeys,
ever since i got chased and clung on to
at the Botanical Gardens in Penang,
and Deer Park in KL  -_-

Monkey Forest, Ubud

Nevertheless, i crept closer and closer
to get a good shot with my pancake lens…

All the roads were to be closed so we were rushing back to park the van.

I felt quite lucky to have witnessed it,
nothing like i’ve ever seen before in Bali despite being there so many times!

Last night, i went to meet Ean for a drink
before i was to meet AshleyTheMonkey + QueenKanch for dinner

In the end, dinner was canceled,
and i spent 6 hours talking to Ean.

SIX HOURS WTF.

About people, Life, loves, happiness,
direction, spirituality, karma,
silat, growth, wow.

Who knew the little bastard was so interesting   :xlaughing:

We even shifted 3 venues –
Library for some salmon salad,
then The Apartment for some lamb curry,
then Laundry for a nightcap.

ean hitz.fm

Besides all the jabbering we did,
Ean also told me about this Chicken Game that’s currently on Hitz.FM

In this game alone, they’re giving out a total of RM50,000 cash.

RM50,000.

That’s a load of moolah, man!
I could go on a world backpacking trip with that!
Or make a giant mushroom garden!
Or import a cow and champignon farmers from Bali!

You get what i mean.   :xlaughing:

Here’s Ean explaining to me how it works, watch it first before continuing!

[If you can’t view vid, you can click *here*]

It’s basically getting 2 callers to compete against each other.

They take turns shouting out their own name
before the buzzer goes off,
as the cash is raised higher and higher.

That’s it!

This only goes on till this Friday tho,
so you gotta pay attention as to when to call and get some cash.

I’s thinking of trying it out myself,
but i have a feeling the Radio Announcers won’t let me play
cos they know me
and will prollie be called out for being bias   :xbummed:

I will be up for bid :p

Comments (1) charity

Niki asked me whether i’d be up for selling myself off for a charity auction.
I said okay (cos it’s charity mar, and how can i say no to charity!)

So this Thursday, it’s possible to buy Joyce Time (with you!)
for RM100 upwards

For 2 hours, we can do anything you like (except sexual offerings -_-)

I’m thinking more of walk in the park (with beer, bubbles and food!)
Or i’ll go shopping with you!
Or we can just go hang out and makan somewhere (i’ll pay!)

If you can’t make it, i think you can contact these Twitterers to place a bid as well.

I told Clem about me going up for auction.

“What is dees? You didn’t tell me!”
“I TOLD you! I told you in Bali! You weren’t listening to me!”
“No no no, i would have remembered!”
“Anyway it’s for charity okay.”
“I’m fine. As long as it doesn’t involve you being in a hotel room.”
“-_-“

I told my Lovelies, and StephTheVolcano replied in the email thread:
“I say we just buy Joyce so that no one can share her…
then we just toss her back to Clem…
hahaha, toss is a bad word…we “return” her back to Clem..
Joyce cannot be shared!! Especially with randoms!!”

Damn cute la they all :p

But i told them not to do it cos that would defeat the purpose of this bid.
Besides, they get Joyce Time for free any time   :xheart2:

Everyone knows how much i heart my Nookas…
they never leave my wrist
and i feel utterly naked without either one of them.

I had to take my pink one off during a shoot on Sunday
(something about not having watch + jewelry brands in the shot)
and felt like i wasn’t wearing my bra or something  >.<

Before i went to Bali,
i popped by H5’s new Black Lab pop-up-store in Mid Valley!

In celebration of H5’s new space (outside Penang Village on 1st Floor)
H5 have collaborated with 20 Malaysian artists
to transform the iconic NookaNooka mascot
into all sorts of interesting interpretations!

THE BAD THE GOOD AND NOOKA By Minifanfan

Bali: Dreamland

Comments (10) Bali, Travel

Before Clem and i went to Bali,
we did bring up the subject of the Bali curse.

You know the Bali curse?

People say that if you go to Bali with a partner,
you end up breaking up   :xwhatevah: :xbummed:

I just think that the probability of people going to Bali with their partner,
teamed with couples getting together and breaking up all the time,
just adds to the statistics to this so-called Bali curse.
Hmph. (you can tell i’m not for this curse!)

I ended up going on this trip
because Clem was going to meet a bunch of his friends,
2 of whom are backpacking all over the world for a year *ENVY*

For the first time, i booked priority seating for AirAsia
cos the fellow is diva impatient   :xsilly:

Dreamland, Bali

Him reading a book i thought he might like.

We reached Bali late in the evening,
and waited for Alix at the airport
(cos she was arriving 20 mins after us from France via Spore)
Then we waited to meet the rest of them at Pesona
(a new guesthouse on Poppies Lane 1)

The next day, we rented a van for all 6 of us,
piled our luggage in,
and took off to spend a day at Dreamland beach

Dreamland, Bali

This is Olivia.
She’s absolutely mad.
The first time i experienced her in the room,
i felt a big burst of energy bounce in
with screams and laughter as she pounced on Alix.

So you can imagine   :xwinky:

Clem and Thom (lost his shorts that day)

Because of the champignon,
i spent most of the afternoon layaning myself on the beach chair
(bargained it to 50,000 rupiah for 2 deck chairs)

Watched the trees and houses click like tetris.
Talked damn alot of bullshit with Clem.
Drank countless bottles of beer.
Spent ages trying to find the right position to lie while talking,
with best sound coming from speakers,
and without clumsy me spilling any beer.

We wanted a picture of the both of us (without us having to get up :p)
so we waited till one of our friends was nearby to take it.

So kancheong okay to take one picture.

Elodie: It would be better with the sea in the picture.
Clem: It would be better with us in the picture.

And i just BURST out laughing cos i knew he meant we weren’t going to get up
as long as WE were in the picture,
it was perfect.

Dreamland, Bali

I even played in the waves… for once!

Okay i have a small confession.
I’ve never ventured to play in the waves at Dreamland before,
despite been there about 4 times.

They’re freaking massive!

Have you seen them?!

The first time i went into the water,
i had to use both hands to hold on both pieces of my bikini,
and still one came off!

I guess since i was with Clem,
i wasn’t afraid of being washed away in turbulent water.

At one point,
the waves got REALLY high,
and everyone managed to get out of the water,
except us.
And some surfers.

0_o

“We’re gonna die baby!!!” he shouted in mock panic.
I actually screamed   :xshy: cos i felt like i was in Deep Impact
looking up at a huge wave that you just KNOW is gonna come down and hit you no matter what you do.

He ended up standing his ground and diving into the wave,
with me clinging on like a monkey the whole time.

‘Twas fun tho!!!

Later on i had to go into the sea alone (to pee)
and spent AGES trying it -_-
What’s wrong with me!
For chrissakes i can swim
good god i’m acting like i’m really 5!

Dreamland, Bali

We took a walk to the far end of the beach.
It was nice.
Just a walk.
Holding hands.
Talking about us.
And we ended it with “Screw the Bali curse!”

Dreamland, Bali

It was so cramped in the van (cos of all our luggage)
two of us at the back would stretch our legs by resting them up high

We drove to find food after that
(i was STARVING cos i spent all day playing and didn’t eat!)

And whacked two fish and lotsa other stuff in nasi padang
 :xpleased: *puas*

Dreamland, Bali

That night itself,
we made our way to Ubud,
which will come in my next post   :xlaughing:
