An old love returned – MNG AW10

Comments (9) Fashion, Sponsored Post

I usually don’t give too much attention to FW collections because it’s not like we’re living in a country where winter exists.

But that has recently changed since i’ve been traveling to so many places where the weather is freezing,
and i can’t help myself from trying to pull together a nice ensemble while there!

I’m going to Paris this December to celebrate Christmas with Clem and his family,
so even more excuse reasons to take note of functional yet fashionable looks   :xlaughing:

Most AW pieces are cooling enough to wear in air-con areas here (which is just about everywhere indoors), so i’m pretty sure i’ll still wear them here to make the most out of it!

Some looks like i liked from MNG FW10 runway:

mng fw 2010

As Vogue (read: Fashion Bible) states, “Invest in a classic camel coat and you’ll wear it forever.”

mng fw 2010

One of my FAVOURITE pieces is this assymetrical coat.
Sigh. Sighsighsigh!

mng fw 2010

Love the flowy skirt. And the loose top means getting to eat more during Christmas without having to suck in your tummy.

mng fw 2010

Camel + denim = Love

mng fw 2010

I have a weakness for anything oversized or assymetrical.
So when you give me something that has both those qualities, over a shorter outfit inside, love is not the word to describe it anymore.
It becomes lust.

mng fw 2010

Love the layering with different textures in mute yet distinctly separate tones.

mng fw 2010

mng fw 2010

One thing i don’t have but think is a staple item i need – long knit dress!

mng fw 2010

Slinky + classic

I’ve been shopping at MNG since 2004.
Best (or worst, depending on how i judged damage to my purse) thing was there stood a massive MNG store next to where i studied…
so most free time was spent browsing the racks even though i didn’t intend to buy anything. Key word: intend.

Since i started earning money, i’ve accumulated a countless number of items from MNG   :xwhatevah:
I even remember getting an RM50 tip once, and telling myself i deserved a pair of brocade pants for RM250.
Writing that now, my thoughts are “What was i thinking?! That doesn’t even make sense -_-“
But when it came to shopping, nothing had to make sense.   :xshy:

Some items i’ve given away/sold off,
and some i’ve held on to cos i can still see myself styling them about,
and they barely look old.

Over the past couple of years, i’ve slowed down my shopping at MNG.
Mainly because i was enlightened by shopping overseas,
thrifting for treasures,
and the boom of the fashion flea markets took off in KL.

Nowadays, i’ve started looking for more basics.
Classics, with a twist as not to look outdated.
Things that i can mix and match constantly with as to get my bang for my buck.

I want clothes that i will still love after years,
not carelessly toss aside because i don’t like its colour/pattern/style anymore.

When you think about it, MNG has a great balance of basics,
while also producing pieces that are on trend.
(The last MNG piece i bought was a sequined top in their London store)

I was sent two massive files holding hundreds of pictures from their AW 2010 collection.
After browsing thru all of them twice, thrice even,
i picked the ones below as “The Ones I Wish MNG Would Give Me.”

You know that game right?
I’m sure you’ve subconsciously played this game before!
Wishing that you could pick a certain number of items from somewhere,
and compiling your wishlist mentally, or not.

I love easy tops.
Throw over pants/leggings, a big/chunky/long necklace and you’re flying out the door.
Also i’m currently obsessed with white.
Maybe it’s the angelic side of me coming out   :xshy: *harrumph*

mng fw 2010

Love the sheer top on left for an event or party, especially since Christmas is coming!
Top on right is what i’d like to call ‘meet the parents’ top.
I have a small collection of decent and nonwhacky clothing i wear, when i feel like it   :xlaughing:

mng fw 2010

Want these two shirts!
The graphic one of Annie Lennox could go with any pair of leggings, crazy or plain!
And i can imagine wearing the ‘Oui’ shirt during Christmas meals in France.
Every time someone asks me whether i want some more food/drink, i can just point at it   :xlaughing:

mng fw 2010

I’ve been on a pants craze as well lately.
Realise how necessary a good pair of pants are,
and have been stocking up on many high-waisted and tapered pants.
It’s the easiest thing to wear from meetings to an event,
and high heels just look so good with tapered pants!

mng fw 2010

I can’t help loving mustard.
And mustard with texture, even better.

mng fw 2010

I couldn’t stop thinking about the gold pants (on right).
Even almost ran out in the middle of writing this post to look for them,
cos what better proof that i love the clothes than buying it myself?
But my laundry is hanging outside to dry -_- and i’m supposed to hand this in asap so i snapped myself out of it.

Saw a picture on the MNG website where one of the lookbooks featured a pair of pants i want!

mng fw 2010

I also picked out 2 red pieces i’d like (macam really talking to the MNG ppl asking for it :p)
cos i don’t have red hair anymore,
which means i can wear red now   :xcool:
Previously i’d avoid yellow and red, cos they don’t go well with my red hair.
Red hair + red clothes = overkill
Red hair + yellow clothes = McDonald’s

mng fw 2010

I think the dress is gorgeous…
And the jacket rocks.

mng fw 2010

mng fw 2010
Below are winter items that i really like too!

mng fw 2010

I don’t yet have a long white cardi like that,
would be so great to throw over any outfit.
And <3 the gigantic clasps on the dust-coloured cardi.

mng fw 2010

mng fw 2010

I WANT A CAPE TOO

mng fw 2010

And of course, a camel coat is essential.   :xlaughing:
Also quite into the Nordic prints out and about now.

mng fw 2010

Hello faux fur, i want you for winter.

mng fw 2010

Upon reflection, i must say i LIKE the jumpsuit,
but i can’t wear it cos my childbearing hips don’t lie.
Sheer black top = also essential!

mng fw 2010

Cocktail party-worthy pieces!
Spill a drop of red wine on that feather dress, and cry.

mng fw 2010

Love denim on denim.

mng fw 2010

And out of ALL the accessories, these are my favourites!
Do click on them for larger view, you can’t see them properly like this!

I’m itching to know when certain items i want are coming out in the stores now.
This doesn’t usually happen, but writing this blogpost is getting the better of me by lifting my strength on the so-called shopping ban i’m placed on myself! (I have no more space to keep anything. Clothes are in suitcases outside the bedroom!)

+ + +

Scarlett Johansson has been the face for MNG since last year,
and i LOVE HER.
I don’t usually fawn over a celebrity,
but i think she’s absolutely succulent.
Like i could just eat her.
And her husband is as equally succulent.
The most attractive celeb couple imho, forget Brangelina *snore*

Click on the pictures below for a larger view,
cos there’s no such thing as appreciating Scarlett in MNG in images this small!

Dr. Brandt launches @ BSC KL

Comments (2) Spa + Beauty

Dr. Brandt officially launched its new stand-alone store in BSC today,
and i went to see what miracle cream can save my dry 20-something-year-old skin from my lifestyle choices what their products are about.

dr brandt bsc kl

I didn’t know much about Dr. Brandt before this afternoon,
except that Marc Jacobs uses the eye cream and serum – Dr. Brandt Time Arrest Eye Serum + Dr. Brandt Time Arrest Face Fluid.

Dr. Brandt is a real life person (not just a brand name!) and currently in his 70s (but looks freakishly young).

dr brandt

Also a lecturer and physician,
Dr. Brandt’s first foray into skincare began when he specialized in research and treatment of leukemia,
studying natural elements that fight against cancer growth (green tea, Vit. A + C).

Now he has practices in NYC and Miami and has clients like Madonna.

In order to reach out to the rest of the world, Dr. Brandt launched his line of products:
lineless > anti-aging, anti-oxidant, for fine lines and wrinkles
house calls > mimics in-office prodecures, max results in min time
pores no more > tightens & refines pores, controls excess oil, mattifies shine
time arrest > recapture young skin; lifts, firms and tightens
blemishes no more > acne control, inhibits bacteria growth

The Time Arrest collection is something that i feel most women would be interested in.
It lifts, firms, tightens and restores sagging, aging skin;
and is formulated with Age Reversing Platinum Technology –
carrying active ingredients deeper into the skin.

I got the Time Arrest Face Fluid, RM359/30ml
I’ll let you know how that goes after i’ve finished using my current moisturizer from Dr. Sebagh!
Seem to be using Dr brands these days hrmm

me + Stephane, who patiently recommended me a few things i should try according to my skin type.

I’ve got quite a few samples but just gonna mention 2 products that perked me up:

– Dr. Brandt Collagen Booster to minimize collagen loss, stimulate collagen production & maximize collagen formation.
Hey. I need all the collagen in my skin i can get. Bring it.

– Dr. Brandt Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner Blackhead Extractor to loosen and remove blackheads, absorb excess oil, unclog & tighten pores.
I was quite fascinated when Stephane said all i have to do is leave it on, and rinse it off. Am tempted to try it on Clem to see how effective this is. Hmm maybe i WILL try it on him so i can actually see the difference!

Breaking my back just to wear your name

Comments (10) La la la

During out of our girlie nights out a few weeks ago, DarlingDhanya was telling us about this guy with magic hands that helped rid the pain in her muscles. We each then poured forth our own bodily problems – aching calves, lower back pains, foot injury, etc.

After one cancellation and many BBMs going back and forth, 3 of us met up in her house last night for this wonderful massage that would help cease our pains starting at the root problem areas.

The man’s name is KK, and he struck me as a healthy-looking man with bright eyes.
Combining trigger point, accupressure and orthopedic massages, he dubs it manipulative massage.

When i arrived, Aps was lying on a blue mat having her turn so i waited for mine next.
As i waited, i told Dhanya how i took 15 minutes to find my car in BSC and how i must be the only person who loses their car in one of the smallest parking lots in KL.

My turn arrived, and KK asked me what my problems are.
I told him that i suffer some pain in my left foot when i walk for long lengths of time, thanks to a fall (off a high heel no less, 2 years ago).
Then i also mentioned my lower back pains that would come and go, and how sometimes, it would be so devastating that i would get whoever was next to me (colleague, boyfriend, tipsy person in pub) to press it sharply to make it go away.

He asked me to stand up in front of me, and looked me up and down before saying i have flat feet.
“Oh, i know, i found that out sometime last year,” i said, thinking back to a Nike event where everyone was discovering how flat-footed they were on this machine.
“That is your main problem, and that is what is causing the pains in your back. Are you clumsy?”
“Yes… Yes i’m very clumsy!” i nodded, thinking of the average number of times per week i knock into a piece of furniture or walk into a stationary object.
“It’s because you’re flat-footed. So you’re not using your natural shock absorbers.”
“You mean there’s a scientific explanation for my clumsiness!” Glee spread across my face.

He started with massaging my feet with sharp strokes under the arch, as to bring it out, i guess.
As he was getting on with it, Dhanya was telling me some story from the sofa and i was half-zoning out because it was SO painful, yet i was trying to listen as to distract myself.
At one point when KK was busy looking down at my feet, i mouthed “OH MY FUCKING GOD” with wide eyes to Dhanya cos i felt like someone was burning my feet off.
Now i understand why Ash was screaming like a little boy when he got his massage months earlier (and vowed never to do it again).

I was asked whether i exercise, to which i hung my head in shame. I love hiking and swimming, but those are things i do on occasion and not regularly.
He pinched the flesh behind my arm, and said i have surprisingly low fat percentage for someone who doesn’t exercise (and who eats so much, i mentally added).

KK moved on to my back after my feet, and i could feel him kneading my muscle strings firmly. It was painful, but i could withstand it and tried not to make any noise.
He told Aps and Dhanya i was ‘hardcore’ -_- but later told me i had a SERIOUS problem with my back, worse than what most people have.
Apparently my muscles deep in my back are all twisted, instead of the usual swelling on the surface that plague the majority.

I told him that i used to wear high heels all the time, till my back started hurting and i decided to give up wearing them all day long.
Cos if it was giving me some health problems, then i really don’t think it’s worth it.
Besides, God must have made us level-footed for a reason. If he wanted girls to appear taller he would have designed our feet with a slanted arch.
It’s just us humans who tend to devise a certain fashion on what is beautiful. -_-

Well, thanks to wearing high heels for extended periods of time, i now have to somehow fix my back before it give me more problems later in life.
KK also said that my back would give me an extremely uncomfortable pregnancy. I didn’t know how to respond to that so i just kept quiet!
He also mentioned that if we do have a habit of crossing our legs, we have to ensure that we balance it out by crossing one and the other equally.

I have dismissed my habit of wearing high heels all day long, and you’ll always find me in flats unless i’m at an event or party (which is usually a couple of hours long).
But i couldn’t help thinking, “First, i spend a ton of money buying all these beautiful high heels that i cannot help myself from, and THEN, i have to pay MORE money to fix a back problem all those high heels have given me!!”

You say life is unfair? I say fashion is unfair.

I think the real reason i’m writing this is to tell all you teens and early 20-somethings that at some point, you really should be thinking of health over vanity.
If i were you, i wouldn’t wear high heels to college/work every single day and fuck my back up later on!

I was having a conversation with my shoes earlier.

I hate you, you know, giving me all these problems!
No… i didn’t mean it, you’re beautiful, i love you!
But still… i have to spend less time with you now, you know that right?

Singapore: Avalon Day 2 + Johnnie Walker party

Comments (2) Party

Took a quick trip to Singapore last weekend for some of the parties that were happening over F1 weekend!

avalon singapore

On the top of the Marina Sands Bay (across where Avalon was held) is Kudeta Singapore.
I’m not sure how i’d feel about it, i doubt my love for its original in Bali can be surpassed,
but it looks and sounds promising!

There were a few guys who dressed up as superheroes at Avalon
so i scurried up to ask for a picture.

Bumped into Beverly Bee, owner of The Girl Next Door,
always love seeing her!
She was wearing this long mesh skirt i half-joked i wanted to steal,
and she responded by saying we could exchange bottoms right there and then.
Madhatter, she is!

Empire Of The Sun were FANTASTIC.
Enjoyed their energy and costumes so much!
They had back up dancers dressed in really weird costumes (like my favourite – this fish one with long blond wigs) that moved precisely according to various choreography so that we wouldn’t take our eyes off the stage!
