While Clem and i stayed at the gorgeous One Eleven resort, we stepped out for a few hours to meet Aps and Fai for some evening cocktails at Potato Head. It was our first time at the restaurant & bar since we hadn’t gone back to Bali for awhile, and it looked quite nice in pictures so i wanted to check it out.
Approaching the establishment

A LOT OF PEOPLE. Now i know why i was advised by the staff to go there around 4pm cos one can’t make bookings. At first Clem and i had a spot on the grass, but he shook his head cos the kwailo simply cannot sit cross-legged on the ground. He just cannot. It’s built into his French physique that he can only sit on chairs. -_- So we sat at a table overlooking this scene (lounge seats next to pool were all full) but it was SO HOT there, we moved to the bar which had shade.
Seriously, it was really really hot. I’m the kind who can sit in the sun and drink and party, but even THIS was too much for me. Even CLEM, the cold-hatin’ sun-baskin’ European, couldn’t take the burning heat and humidity.
Cocktails in shade is good. The other people are just crazy.
I first noticed Corgi when i walked around Publika some time last year. Me, with my innate talent to spend money, wandered in and really liked what i saw – a Malaysian brand selling their own label of leather shoes, along with accessories and apparel. I was in a bit of a rush that day, but still managed to nab some presents for a friend (and myself). When i wore these heart-shaped earrings out, i got compliments from Steph and the other girls. They were so cute! I couldn’t resist. (The earrings i mean. But my friends are cute too :p)
Then just last week, i got an invite to a small exhibition they were having. I don’t know anyone who works there… nor the owners. But i was really curious and wanted to support the label cos i have a lot of respect for fashion businesses in KL who try to make it. It’s not easy! And besides that point – i liked what i knew of the brand so far, so i went.
The brand has really nice accessories that are made ofย 925 silver, Swarovski crystal, and non-allergic steel. All shoes and bags are made fromย composite leather, calf-skin, full-grain leather, or kidskin; and apparel is made from silk, velvet, lace, chiffon, and cotton (no pix of apparel sorry, i was more taken by the shoes).
I was told that all the shoes are made in their partner-factory based in Korea. Corgi limits the numbers of each design to a minimum of 30 pieces, and doesn’t remake any despite popularity, as to keep the shoes exclusive. The shoes focus on trend as well as comfort, and find its glory in detailed trimmings and materials.
Corgi’s founders Amanda and Han were very sweet to introduce themselves and take me thru their current season’s concept.
The usage of ordinary materials such as cling film and aluminum foil in their SS lookbook was to create an artistic concept. Even the shots themselves were intentionally blurred as to take the attention away from the shoes and for one to focus on the emotion of the image.
I posted lookbook and product shots after the jump ๐
Clem turned 32 last week and we initially planned to celebrate it at Awanmulan like how i did last year, but his company scheduled a work trip to France on the same dates so we had to cancel. Then last minute, the client canceled the work trip -_- So he had no plans and was feeling all depressed about how he wouldn’t have a birthday cos we had no time to plan it.
Seeing i’ve never thrown him a surprise party before, i discussed it with Tai Yong of Lust and we put together a party for one week before Clem’s birthday (so it wouldn’t be so obvious, see). I purposely wanted to have it at Lust cos they play old-school R&B and hip hop every Friday night and it’s the kind of music Clem loves, and most of us miss and love dancing to it too.
Tai Yong remembered how Clem walked into Lust one day saying, “Just call me Clem Flizzow” and took it upon himself to make the sign without telling me. So. Many. Points.
Oh yeah before Lust, we had a dinner at MediTeca with the group of frenchies and the LohLohs.
I wanted to laugh when Melati wrote on a chat that French people take so long to leave a place. Cos it’s SO TRUE. I was panicking like shit and didn’t want people at Lust to wait, but these bloody drunk French guys (who were IN on the surprise for Clem btw and KNEW we had to be at Lust at a certain time) kept on ordering more drinks and getting more drunk and taking SO LONG to leave even the CAR PARK. But i could also blame Kenny for ordering a bottle of tequila before we even had starters -_-ย You guys kinda suck.ย (If you notice, someone lost their shoe in the picture). Seriously, it was only around 11pm!
FINALLY arrived at Lust and Clem was well and truly surprised. Tai Yong wasn’t around but Andrew was there to take care of us. Thank you so much guys!!! I didn’t expect so many things thrown in from doing our party there – like the personalized shirt you made for Clem, the kick ass sign, tons of balloons, the champagne, etc! You certainly raise the bar.
I got sick yesterday.
A fever slowly crept up, along with a tummy ache and chills.
I’m pretty sure it’s a combination of Clem’s birthday excitement the past week,
with all that drinking,
as well as running back and forth meetings and errands in this terribly humid weather.
I also told him roughly a week ago that i felt like i wanted to stop drinking.
He panicked, called me from the office and said, “Maybe you should take a pregnancy test…”
I was like, “PLEASE LA.” I can’t be pregnant, i’ve been on the pill so… that’s that.
Still, his words bounced around my head as i was driving last week, and i suddenly thought, “What IF i’m pregnant?!” And i COMPLETELY PANICKED. I felt like this hand swooped into my chest and tightened itself around my heart. I need to move house this year! I need to source for furniture and overlook the renovations! I have a project i want to kick off in May! I can’t do all this while throwing up all over the place!
Anyway. That was my mini panic attack. But i’m very sure i’m not pregnant.
And i don’t plan to be any time soon.
Back to me being sick, i tried not taking Panadol at first yesterday.
I avoid taking medicine (unless it’s cough mixture heh) cos i’d like to let my body try to fend for itself first.
Imagine if every time you get sick you just drop a pill… I think you’re destroying your own body’s immune system!
After laying around my parents’ house like a sick dog (went over there for lunch) and dragging myself to The Curve to exchange one of Clem’s birthday presents, i was so so relieved to get home and lay flat on the couch and rest.
I succumbed to a Panadol (and four more since),
and Clem offered to watch a cartoon movie with me – i chose Winnie the Pooh.
I chirped up, “I feel better already!” as the show started.
Not bad, he sat thru the whole thing and even laughed at some of the right parts.
I need to find more great cartoon movies to watch.
Suggestions?
