Rizalman for Zalora /// Eclipse FW 2014 /// When Our Eyes Met @ Streetlove

Comments (0) Fashion

* Pictures edited by Evan Lau *

Zalora collaborated with renowned Malaysian fashion designer Rizalman Ibrahim to release a collection with focus on the designer’s signature form-fitting cuts and elegant Baju Kurungs.

Embellishments are kept to a bare minimum, as Rizalman focused on the use of beautiful and exquisite fabric to elevate the elegance of each piece. Jersey, lace, crepe silk and georgette silk are used generously in addition to laces and metallic elements that create an old-world sophistication that only Rizalman could have recreated.

Featuring the collection are Malaysia’s models du jour Atikah Karim and Rita Suraya, with another campaign showing off seventeen of the designer’s current muses. These muses represent successful, elegant women from all fields and backgrounds such as popular actresses Scha Alyahya and Elfira Loy, top singer Dayang Nurfaizah and supermodel Amber Chia.

I watched the preview of Dance on NTV7’s Bella yesterday morning, and was so proud to see two of my friends’ work come together in a video! It’s Melissa Indot‘s third single release from the album MDot called Dance, with an appearance by dancer Maybelline Wong – whose energy just jumped outta the screen.

Mayb’s my neighbour too, and i do stupid things to her like call her frantically when i’m accidentally locked in my own house. Sometimes we do more fun stuff, like exchanging tapau-ed food from Seremban and JB earlier this week XD

Going back to Dance, it’s a song dedicated to Melissa’s mother and calls for all of us to appreciate those who love and care for us unconditionally.

/// The music video takes us on a journey using vintage pictures of Melissa’s fans and friends alike with their Mothers as well as Mothers with their own children, reminding us of the innocent and unconditional love shared. Directed by Susan Lankester, who is known for her active role in the Malaysian film and art scene since 1983 when she debuted in the cult classic “Mekanik” and more recently in the movie, “Take Me For Dinner”.

“It was such an experience making the music video with Susan, as we both had the same attitude towards life and our love for art. We had so much fun with all those involved; I started a campaign on my social media for my fans to send their throwback pictures of themselves and their mums / children. The response was overwhelming with several Malaysian Celebrities contributing too. See if you can spot the iconic Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah with activist daughter, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir and film maker grand daughter, Ineza. Also Datuk Sheila Majid, Sofia Jane, Hunny Hatim and DJ Blink. The photos exude pure love, which is exactly what the song is all about”, Melissa says. ///

Seoul: Staying in a historic house with rooftop garden & traditional guesthouse

Comments (5) Korea, Seoul, Travel

I traveled to Korea by myself for 8 days in early June, and it was such a beautiful holiday!

I would push myself to explore, sightsee, eat, shop, and party as much as i could; so by the time i went back home to wherever i was staying, i would be thoroughly pooped. Coming home (cos it IS my temporary home!) to a comfortable and welcoming environment is so important to me. After being surrounded by so many people and having my eyes dart around excitedly all day long, some Joyce Recharge Time is imperative!

I used Airbnb for ALL my stays in Korea (i tried staying in 3 different places within Seoul and Jeju) and it’s so much more personal than simply staying in a commercial guesthouse or hotel.

For those who have never heard of Airbnb – it’s a community platform where hosts all over the world rent out rooms or entire apartments to travellers looking for a place to stay. Because these are locals hosting me, i usually end up forming bonds with them that i usually wouldn’t get via staying at a hotel chain. The spaces i make my temporary home are more charming and have more depth of character, which undeniably adds to my travel experience. An additional plus point is how the prices are very reasonable and lower than you’d expect!

Some hosts let out their space professionally, some do it for additional income, and some do it cos they just love company /hosting people/travelling themselves! Hosts and guests then leave each other reviews on the airbnb website after the trip, which later users can then refer to for reliable future connections.

I ended up picking two places to stay in Seoul (cos the places i wanted to stay in only had a certain number of nights available and i booked them a bit too close to my trip) but i think it was meant to be cos i managed to try out two vastly different spaces.

I spent my first three nights staying in an historic house with a rooftop garden in Jongno, an elegant neighbourhood close to Gyeongbok Palace. There were a lot of cafes, restaurants, small shops and art galleries in the area; with the most magnificent view of glittering city lights from the top of the hill when i reached home every night.

I had the whole place to myself! It was tempting to throw a party haha.

The place is beautifully-designed and i loved the sloping architectural lines on the ceiling

It was nice to spend some time sitting in the garden every day while listening to chirping birds and excited puppies when they got fed next door.

On my last night in Seoul, i moved to Sopoong Guest House in Bukchon – a 600-year-old neighbourhood filled with colourful shops, cafes, cult food stalls, art museums, and the famous Bukchon hanok village (traditional Korean houses). Sopoong Guest House itself is a hanok!

Sopoong Guest House was SO CUTE i felt like i had stepped into a colourful Korean world.

Closing Party at Awesomeness Fest Phuket 2014

Comments (1) Party

* Photos by the amazing team of John Russell and Paulius Staniunas *

Ahmygad. There are so many pictures, that i took ages just picking some to resize and there are still hundreds more i’m just not gonna post up.
It’s already been two weeks since Awesomeness Fest East took place and so much has been happening i’m just getting to blog about it now! And of course… i happened to have some of the party pix from my cam edited already so i decided to post about the closing party first :p Work my way back? Heh.

If you have no idea what Afest is, you can read my blogpost about *the first one i attended in Bali last year*

I wrote this on my Facebook upon returning from Afest this year:

“The past few days have been one of the most beautiful in my life. I honestly didn’t think i would reap too much more from Awesomeness Fest cos i went before, and this time it blew me away that i was given greater lessons than i ever imagined or thought possible.
I met so many amazing people who touched my hearts, and those who said i touched theirs.
Put that with partying on 6 catamarans with a sunset view, and being transported via speedboat to a private island decked out just for 260 of us to party… it was fucking insane. FUCKING INSANE.”

Here are pix from the closing party on the private island off Phuket!
It’s called the closing party cos there were major parties 5 nights in a row for Afest… #marathonmuch
I was completely PARTIED out after.

A variety of silhouettes will be hitting the racks this season: Fit-to-flare fits, cropped tops and asymmetrical cuts will create major moments for every woman looking for fashion- forward looks with luxe fabrics.

Silk organza and snake-embossed satin, along with iridescent glass-fibre knit and honeycomb tweed, incorporate colours of choice this season of navy, black and white – and especially the mint. Together resulting in a quintessentially cool look that is “sombre yet powerful and hip.”
