“It’s my birthday.”

Comments (9) Birthdays

I was sitting on the floor with a huge blue plastic bowl of minced meat, herbs and sun-dried tomatoes in front of me. Squishing my hands into the mixture, i slowly made pork and beef burgers one by one. Dammit! My stomach is itchy what the hell? My stomach is NEVER itchy, and now, when i have minced meat up to my wrists, of course it has to be itchy. It just has to.

I tried scratching it rather pathetically with my elbow. About five times.

Then i felt something biting me on my leg and saw a blasted mosquito casually sitting on my knee. That bastard! I knew it was you! For a few days i was convinced there were invisible mosquitoes in the house.

“What’s wrong?” Clem asked.
“There’s a bloody mosquito attacking me!”
“Do you want to spray something?”
I think of poisonous spray seeping into my exposed mince meat and immediately shake my head, “No…”
“Hmm okay then” *settles back to play his game*
“You know what you should do? You should just… try to catch it while it’s around me. It’ll come out, i know it will.”
“What??”
“Come on, it’s my birthday.”
*sighs and hovers slowly around me, trying to spot mozzie*
“Why did you have to wear black? These moskeetoes, they’re very smart, they like black.”
“Uh-huh…”

He successfully managed to catch it after 2 minutes. See! It wasn’t difficult!

After i was done with making burgers, i got up to go shower.

“You wanna watch that video i told you about?”
“What video?”
“The funny one, i told you about it the other day.”
“Ohhh that one. Erm not now… *quickly walking away to shower*”
“You’re never gonna watch it.”

“Ha… now? ….. It’s my birthday!”
“Are you going to say that all day?”

Yup. It’s the only day i can WIN all day.

Topshop Personal Shopping @ Midvalley

Comments (4) Fashion

Last night i went to the reopening of Topshop’s Mid Valley store, they’ve refurbished the whole place and it looks like a piece of girl heaven now. A lot better and cooler with more colours included in its interior’s aesthetic instead of the former minimalist white. I actually felt like a kid going into Disneyland when i stepped in.

With the change, Topshop MV will carry a larger selection of Topshop mainline collections, including footwear and accessories. There are big red tags to mark special pieces that are only available in the MV outlet.

I didn’t take many pictures cos i think i was a bit overwhelmed. I didn’t know which way to turn cos i wanted to look at everything so i just… kept on walking straight! Saw Clouds near the make up section and tried to go around her to surprise her. Just as i was about to carry out my plan, she looked RIGHT AT ME… and what did i do? I held my champagne glass up to my face to HIDE BEHIND IT. Oh i’m so clever sometimes i shock myself.

Anyway she laughed really loudly and i decided my plan obviously failed. We giggled and ooh-ed together over how we loved the new store and how we were gonna walk through the whole place slowly so we wouldn’t get a heart attack.

Here’s a vid of Claudia talking about Topshop for Tongue in Chic which you may or may not have watched!

We went to the shoe wall and just stood there in a daze with our drinks in hand, staring at all the pairs before us.
Clouds: I’m so HAPPY Joyce. You have no idea. I’m just so HAPPY to be drinking in Topshop. It’s like my dream come true.
Me: Oh CLAUDIA. I know what you mean… i think i may just pass out…

Later on, she asked me: What are you doing later?
Me: Going for friend’s birthday dinner, then the Bee at Publika. Come la.
Her: Oh i don’t know, i have to go out and BUY A KITE.
Me: A kite?! I miss talking to you. No one says random shit to me anymore.

These pink wedges are so freakishly awesome… i didn’t get them because… i’m trying to control myself? (I just reread this and laughed at how there’s a question mark there. Obviously i’m fighting within myself!) I just bought a bunch of stuff from Topshop last week (thanks to some RM50 voucher that lured me there). And more at this event too -_-

I wish i saw Jezmine more! I asked her to please open another boutique in my area so i can visit her clothes more!

Yesterday i wore polka dot top from Topshop, print pants from Zara, asymmetrical shrug from CK, headband from thirtyfour, statement necklace from Bangkok, and coral lippie from Shu Uemura.

Back to Topshop – along with the re-opening, Topshop has just brought its Personal Shopping service for the first time! This service, previously only carried out in selected flagship outlets in England, Scotland and US is now finally in Malaysia’s Mid Valley Topshop outlet! Can you say SWANK WITH ME.

This is Rachael Lamb, Personal Shopper from Topshop Knightsbridge who came to KL for the launch. She and Topshop Malaysia’s Personal Shopper Denver Leong (HI DENVER!!! haha) spoke to everyone about the latest trends in the store. I tried on a bunch of clothes (how couldn’t i) including the pink dress she had on and completely fell in love with it. It is the perfect birthday dress i (didn’t realize i) was looking for. Yay!!! Thanks Topshop!

Sorry got so excited bout my new dress i digressed from the Personal Shopping part. The whole point of having a Personal Shopper is so that you can give them your measurements, preferred styles, and leave it to the experts to prep a room full of the newest items according to your desire in your size when you visit the shop. Save time and feel loved! You can even tell them what kind of function you’ve got in mind to dress for – wedding, party, holiday, casual daily stuff, etc.

They say you even get to view upcoming products while being served cupcakes and drinks. The former is certainly worth making an appointment for. (Kiasu!)

The Personal Shopping changing room with couch and large mirrors at the end.

The Topshop Personal Shopping service ranges from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your budget. There is no extra cost to book a Personal Shopper. To book an appointment, you can email personalshopper@dnpclothing.com.my or call 03 2287 9319.

Bangkok – Shop. Party. Massage. Eat.

Comments (6) Bangkok, Thailand

I’ve gone to Bangkok many times, with either 1 girl friend, or a group of friends; but i never attempted it with a group of girls before and i don’t know why! Bangkok is the PERFECT place for girls to holiday at together… it’s all SHOP + PARTY + EAT.

We bumped into some acquaintances at the airport.
“Where you girls going?”
“Bangkok. Bachelorette party.”
“Girls… go to Bangkok for a hen’s night? I thought it was just guys…”

Wow so sexist! Why can GUYS go to Bangkok for a stag’s night (ala The Hangover) but girls can’t? Noone says we can’t. And we all definitely say WE CAN.

I was gonna be rooming with Cammy for the trip and we were kinda each other’s ‘buddy’ as well. Too many girls.

I was not looking nor feeling my best thanks to the Topshop event the night prior. Some of the other girls started early on the plane…

Practicing my paparazzo shot

Couldn’t help taking these pictures cos i was just APPALLED at how dirty the plane was. All i can say is we did NOT take Air Asia. Probably should have.

Cammy and i stayed at Maduzi (which i’ll blog bout later!), while the other girls stayed at Tenface, or with family in BKK.

We bought 4 bottles of bubbly between the 9 of us, and Jacie popped the first bottle with her famous words – “Why not now?! I thought the champagne is for moments. And THIS is a moment.”

It’s a HOLIDAY when you have bubbly and it’s light out!

How long does it take for 9 girls to constantly meet up and get their butts out to somewhere? A pretty long time. Tina’s bro cracked me up when on the last day he called and said, “Late again ar? Sure late la. So many girls.” He’s based in BKK and knew of all our going-ons most of the time.

Cammy tryna keep her locks under control in the tuk tuk

We went to Healthland Spa for massages, which is the biggest spa i’ve ever been to. Even the building looked surprisingly regal from the outside, that i didn’t guess it was the spa we were heading to at first! They’ve got a system where you choose your treatment, pay at cashier then wait for your number to be called. The massages were insanely cheap in such a nice place (300 baht for 1-hour Thai massage) and really good too. They’re quite popular so if you go, you should call and book beforehand. I wanted the Ayurvedic massage but it was fully-booked so went with the Thai one. Considering i’ve tried Thai massages a handful of times and still prefer other types, i have to add that the masseuse did her job very well!

After the massage we went to Ruen Mallika for dinner (which i’d totally recommend to anyone, especially if you’re in a group). Huge Thai restaurant that serves authentic Thai cuisine for a reasonable price (don’t think about street food price ok).

We ordered all sorts of dishes – lobster tom yam, catfish salad, steamed fish with lime, glass noodles, salads, roasted pork. In hindsight we ordered too much, cos one would expect the pictures in the menu to turn out 1) smaller or 2) the size you expect, in real life. But this was an exception. All the dishes came out a lot LARGER than i thought @_@

Picture of me since i took the group shot

Oh i’m so grown up.

After dinner we returned to our respective places we’re staying at to ‘see if we felt like going out’ and get ready. When we reached our hotel room, Cammy put on a bathrobe and snuggled in bed. I looked at her and said, “Oh no… this means we’re not going out.”
“I’m sooooo tireddddddd”
“Yeah i know… we’ll urm chill for half an hour and see how.”

After THREE HOURS of messaging the other girls, we obviously were not going out at 2am so we just stayed in, showered, and laughed till 4am. I even had to say to her: “Stop. Just stop talking. If you think something is REALLY funny, TELL ME TOMORROW. Else we’re gonna DIE shopping and partying all day tomorrow! We need to sleep NOW!”

Topshop Topman SS12 Fashion Show @ Zebra Square KL

Comments (5) Fashion

Ohemgee i think i took 6 hours to edit and upload all these pix… you gotta click further down to continue reading this post cos there are JUST TOO MANY pictures i HAD to post up! A BIG thank you to Topshop and DNP for making me a part of this and giving me a pile of invites to give away to readers. We felt the love!

I invited Chelle, Clem and Rahul to come along with me, and us four decided to carpool to Zebra Square since we’re all from around the same area. 2 people with a vague idea how to get there, and 2 with no idea, made it quite an adventure in the traffic. We all decided that whichever route we took, we’d be caught in the jam anyway. Rahul and i were using Google maps on our phones, and even then we were debating which was the right way! (i have to add that he didn’t believe his map and was navigating Clem to the building which he could SEE and thought was right. “Men and maps,” Chelle said.) Finally got there at 8:15… before the show started PHEW!!!

Because it was so packed already, the boys went to drink outside while Chelle and i got ushered to some seats inside. That was the whole plan anyway… i bring Rahul so that Clem won’t get too bored while Chelle and i talk and ogle over fashion.

The warehouse was PACKED. And i MUST SAY that the crowd was the most stylish compared to any other fashion show in KL. Hands down. Since ever. Or maybe i’m just being bias cos it’s ‘my’ kinda fashion.

Whichevs. Here here here we go! A few pictures from the Topman show:

If i were a man i’d so dress like this. Clem would rather die than allow me to put him in a sweater like this. I’ve (almost) accepted that we’re completely different fashion personas and have stopped trying to make him wear clothes i like on a manly me. I say ‘almost’ cos i bought him an aztec print shirt from Bangkok last weekend and i think he hates it.

Topshop SS12! >

You can easily recognize Topshop Unique SS12 with all the Egytian-inspired prints and graphics they have this season.

This sheer trench jacket slash slip is definitely one of my favourite pieces from the Topshop Unique collection. I’d say the hooded swimsuit too but i already have it so… heehee *EYES FOR MORE*

OK yes i love it so much i posted three pictures of it from every angle :p

I saw these silk mint pants and thought very hard on whether to get them. The nude brassieres are already in stores too, i saw.

I like the idea of a transparent raincoat so people can still see the wonderful clothes i’m wearing underneath!

I just got a pair of Topshop shorts similar to these above. They even got recognized by a Taiwanese girl when i wore them to Chatuchak last weekend!

I am pretty lusting after this sweater just cos i feel these prints BELONG in my closet with the other happy prints i’ve collected.

Chelle and i loved this particular socks & heel pairing

Chelle, me and Deeds

I’m wearing platform heels from Topshop, necklace from Freedom at Topshop, and hooded swimsuit and silk drawstring pants from Topshop Unique SS12.

Chelle, Deeds, Ming, Cris and i

Then Kevin kidnapped my camera and started taking pix

I’m quite sure i could fit Wilson into Didi’s mouth

Can you please admire my arms and tell me they’re a little bit toned at least cos i HAVE BEEN WORKING THEM OUT and it’s TOUGH SHIT OK

Click to view the rest of the pix, HEAPS!!!

After the show, we were all starving so we went to La Bodega where we shared a bunch of dishes and i fell in love with their  club sandwich so bad i decided to tapau it home in my handbag. Hours later we found ourselves at Zeta Bar and it would have been a dangerously late night out if i didn’t have to make sure i was able to cook a birthday dinner for my mom the next day.

Liza, Elicia, Cammy, me

Everyone was laughing at me for carrying the club sandwich around in my bag… but you know what? i was SO glad i took it home cos i was starving early the next morn and chomped on it before going back to bed till noon.
