Hennessy Artistry @ Zouk on the 18th

Comments (7) Alcohol, Events, Sponsored Post

I’ve gone for past Hennessy events before,
at Bliss in May, 2005.
And one with Kevin in 2006 in that whatchucallit glass bar near the Shang.

Hennessy Artistry

I must admit that as a result of all those events they’ve been pulling off with some serious kick-ass musicians performing, every time someone mentions “Hennessy event” i immediately assume i’ll be watching some international musician i’ve never heard of but sourced and brought down for the reason they’re fantastic.
And being the global music campaign they’re trying to be, they do end up exposing these talents to blur cases like me.

Hennessy Artistry

What they’ve always tried to achieve is mixing sound, visual innovation and drinking experiences from around the world at each and every event.

Past Hennessy events in KL in 2007…

Kat DeLuna

Kat DeLuna!

Kat DeLuna

She looks a bit like Jessica Alba, doesn’t she?

Hennessy Artistry

In US, Hennessy had artistes like Pharrell and Fallout Boy performing last year, whereas 2006 saw them pulling in other artistes like Kanye West, Goldfrapp (i likey), The Strokes (i likey too!) and DJ Carl Cox

The first Hennessy Artistry event in KL for 2008 is set to be held at Zouk on Friday, 18th of April.

Remember how i wrote about having superlicious cocktails in Anantara @ Bali, and then at Frangi’s when the cocktail-concocting gang were working it there?

Yeah.

Getting *that* right cocktail to push your senses into further bliss is the new thang.
Actually, it’s not that new… been around for awhile, but ppl are catching on now.

Hennessy Artistry

At Hennessy Artistry, you get to try their Hennessy international city cocktails – Hennessy Miami, Hennessy Shanghai, Hennessy Moscow, and Hennessy Paris.
I have no clue what they’re like, but i’ll let you know should you miss out!

Hennessy Artistry

So what sort of music can we expect whilst trying out new drinks to welcome the weekend? (it will be on a Friday after all!)

There’ll be DJ Andrew K, an accomplished performer from Greece.

Hennessy Artistry

Inspired by a wide range of music styles from experimental, downtempo, and jazz to rock and punk (hmm that should be interesting…), he’s played to partygoers spanning from Latin America and Europe to USA.

He has received support from the likes of John Digweed, Sasha, Nick Warren, and Armin van Buuren; as well as having over 20 releases on labels such as the renowned Global Underground, Mo-Do, Pure Substance, Armada, Wallop and more.

A bombshell to look out for that night is DJ Keri.

Hennessy Artistry

How can you say no to red hair? Silly
Though i think this is an old picture and it’s not red anymore.

She’s got a real unique look, doesn’t she?
If you’re curious on how it came about, her mix is Choctaw (Native American Indian), German and Creole.

DJ Keri captivates the sounds of breakbeats and progressive house, overlaid with her own angelic vocals.
And it is pretty angelic if you watch the vid below.
Makes me think of words like ‘euphoria’.

With her unique combination of vocal performance and dynamic training, she’s played to tens of thousands of clubbers the world over, stating that her personal mission is to touch as many people as she can with her unusual sound.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see for ourselves how ‘unusual’ her set is.
Winky

Interesting facts for you guys:
– been featured in Playboy (Oct ’03 and April ’04), FHM and Maxim mags (ha! i bet that piqued your interest didn’t it…)
– besides being a DJ and singer, she’s also a producer and model

And representing our homegrown artistes will be DJ/VJ Callen.
If you’re not familiar with Callen’s name, you must at least have heard about the 3-man group he’s a part of – Altered Image.

Hennessy Artistry
L-R: Callen, Terence C, Didjital

Callen has been a familiar face in the KL club scene for years since 1985 which was… shite, that’s when i was 2 years old!

I used to ask PassedOutBen who’s this and who’s that when i first started writing about DJs four years back.
“Ben, who’s Callen?”
“Oh my god. I can’t believe you’re asking me. They will die if they hear you say that!”

POB loves stating that his boys will die hearing me say all sorts of things.
He enlightened me that Callen set up Excessive Records, and after some research, it was obvious that Callen’s a pioneer of our local progressive house movement.

So get ready to experience total sensory overload as he’ll be showcasing his special brand of visual wizardry alongside the night’s live performance.

In The Star today  –

“Bloggers, including those paid to write product reviews, should set their own standards of ethics.”

Wow. So three bloggers’ opinions count as every blogger’s?
Time and time again, i’ve repeated that bloggers who get paid for their posts/reviews/advertorials (whatever you want to refer them as) should possess some media credibility.

You say you’re not media, yet want to be treated a certain way? What?! Make up your mind!

Reading the contradictions in the article made me scowl.
I already knew about the forum held yesterday when one of the PR managers who attended called me to share what atrocity he thought was being said.

Believe you me there will be retaliation on this subject from me and other individuals who do not feel the same way.

As i’m typing this, i’m coincidentally wearing a top i bought from Replacement Boutique Salon in Bangsar when i went to pay homage to Ricco.
Just across La Bod on Telawi, Bangsar; it’s been open for a while but i’ve been a bad girl and didn’t go see him nor his launch (i was out of country! – good excuse!)

Something for shopaholics to do this Sat night Winky

I got this powder blue ruffled chiffon top from the DNP sale (yeah. you’re not going to hear the end of this for weeks!) for RM10, i think.
It had a tiny hole on the side. Which i pinned together with a gold horse brooch.
Navin thought it was some brand he never heard of.

Instead of the chiffon top taking the attention, two people asked me where i got my white slip from.

Cos of the embroidery on the back (i didn’t take a pic oops).

It was RM18 from Bangkok.
And all the designer boys are going to Bkk this week.

Ho Hum

That’s my reaction nowadays to hate comments: “Ho hum…” as i click to trash it away.

Away away away
  hateful things!

I have a happy blog.
It doesn’t have need or space for spiteful sayings and green monsters.

Admittedly, my reactions differ at times.

Sometimes it’s, “What on earth are they talking about?!”
Cos it doesn’t make sense.
Then i delete it.

At times, i think, “Man. Some people are damn free.”
*click click*
Delete.

It’s like, so malas to retaliate, when what meaning to me does it serve?
Make me feel better? By justifying whatever?

I don’t understand why people would want to blow up negativities and pinpoint on them.
Oh wait. I do understand.
So you can bring someone down, make someone feel a tad worse than they do at the moment, and hopefully nearer to your spectrum of lowliness.
It’s as if by doing that, you can dust your hands off and go, “Ah! I feel good for the day! Showed someone else that life’s not so peachy after all.”

But why?
Whyyyyy

Spread the love and it’ll come back to you.
Like i always quip to my friends, “It’s all about the love, yo.”

Here, have a break, have a kit kat have a drink.
Cheers!

Cheers!
