I picked this book up by complete accident at the airport,
with no prior knowledge to it’s reputation or story (tho one can easily guess its direction by the title alone!)
Really enjoyed this one,
especially the first half of the book.
It tells the story of a mother’s treacherous life, followed by her daughter’s,
and is told with beautiful lyrical sensitivity.
At one point Clem caught me crying while reading it on the bed,
and i was actually tearing with happiness!
There are also many Chinese customs and quotes inserted in the story,
so i got to learn more about my own roots.
Like how in the 1900s, women were to serve men – as concubines, slaves and prostitutes. *feminist emotions bubbling*
And the utterly gross things Chinese people eat (which is, everything!).
Here’s a favourite quote from the book which i’d like to share:
Gold can be found everywhere if you look for it… sprinkled by sunlight on clear water… in the evening sky and the coming of each new dawn. It falls like scattered coins on the forest floor and gilds the leaf of every tree; glitters on every blade of grass after the rain and turns each dewdrop into a precious jewel. You will find gold in kindness; it can be found in the seeking of happiness and in helping others. Try to find your fortune among these things, collect what you can of this real gold, and one day you will be quan-jin.
“You were humming in your sleep last night.” “I was? Like how?”
*hums happily like a small kid* “Oh, daymn! If i heard you humming like that in the middle of the night… i’d be freaked out thinking it was some ghost child :p”
” *ignores my comment and continues* My dog used to run in his sleep.” “Are you comparing me to your dog? -_-“
Kanch told me i used to smile in my sleep a lot.
So humming brings it to another level!
At least i’m not hitting people in my sleep… which is what someone did to me before
Any weird things you or your partner do in your sleep?
A long overdue visit to Jezmine‘s shop finally came to be yesterday!
Located in Shah Alam, it’s not an area i’m familiar with,
and i wasn’t looking forward to getting lost alone!
Yishyene wanted to go,
and i thought it’d be the best occasion to finally seek the boutique out
and finally see in person the kitschy colourful wonderland that i’ve only seen in pictures.
And really…
it was everything i thought it’d be and more.
More also meaning, i spent more money than i expected to.
Couldn’t help it, we went a bit crazy seeing all the colourful quirky items in the shop!
I think Yishyene and i even had to be diplomatic enough to look at racks separately as not to fight over things :p
Prices of clothes are very reasonable,
with tops going at around RM58,
and long skirts at RM79.
Accessories around RM20-30.
The whole boutique is decorated with the cutest random items that totally distract you while you’re trying to shop…
Lone rabbits peering at you next to accessories… supercomel until cannot tahan okay.
I was staring and staring at the doggie pillow in the middle.
I recalled having a cat one very similar in style to it when i was a baby!!!
Until my mum threw it out without telling me
Old Blossom Box Store also stocks That Last Slice macaroons.
I’m currently addicted to the Salty Caramel ones…
‘Twas so good i scoffed them all myself and didn’t even share them with Clem
I bought some SUPERHAPPY COLOURFUL SPARKLY THINGS i can’t WAIT TO WEAR!
4 tops, 1 skirt (Jezmine kindly gave me heeee), and a baby blue turban.
It’s gonna make me feel like i belong in a carnival world of my own! *glee*
Yishyene was happily peering at all her shopping saying, “It’s all worth it. For all these things that i got, i could have only got 2 things at Topshop.”
The boutique is located at:
309, Block 2,
Laman Seri Business Park,
Section 13 Shah Alam. oldblossombox.blogspot.com
You can call 017 605 0442 for directions
I say you should go there with some girlfriends and make an outing of it.
I swear you’ll come out feeling like you had the BEST day ever and feel ever so lucky for all the happy things you bought
