Can you guess what PNN is?
Give you a clue – it’s kinda sorta to do with CNN.
But not.
Watch the vid before reading!
I was thinking what if as an April Fool’s joke this was played on CNN instead,
but that would never happen!
Just imagining the expressions on people’s faces if they had to soak that in when expecting the news.
Though… i guess in Potato Land, all that would have been VERY serious news!
Had to laugh at the part the potato was rolling around the world,
Marco Potato, brilliant!
If i was a potato, i’d probably try that…
unless i was prone to getting eaten by starving children in rural countries.
Ha! Did Marco Potato think of that?!
I think not!
There’s also another vid just posted up online as part of the potato series,
like what would scare potatoes the most?
As a potato, life doesn’t last forever once you’re taken out of the soil.
But i know a great ending to my potato life if i were one!
I’d choose to be cut into happy stamp shapes for children to play with!
I may be cut up… but at least i would have contributed to some happiness and colour in my short potato life.
Back to reality, not all potatoes can choose their happy endings.
One of the common deaths would be being mashed (i wouldn’t want that…)
or baked in the oven till a fine crisp has formed on my skin (painful…)
And the most HORRIFYING death of all,
is used to scare little potato children…
My lower back has always been giving me problems,
and long hours of walking in Singapore have made it hurt so!
I really need to work out and strengthen my back man -_-
Went to Sifu @ Bangsar for a quick fix to ease the pain.
For the first time, this guy called Najib massaged me.
“Any particular problems?” he asked “Yeah, my lower back always hurts,” i spoke to him through the face hole on the bed.
I think because i didn’t look up to see his face, he offered up the information that he’s blind. “100% blind.” “Oh…. *didn’t know what to say* Where are you from?” “Sarawak. What do you do?” “I’m… a writer.” “Oh that’s nice! I have a friend who’s a writer too. He’s from Indonesia. His name is Willy.” “Oh Willy! I know Willy!” “Is he the one who had cancer?” “Yes…*awkward to talk about disease* ” “Ah then he’s the same one la!” ” He’s a really nice guy…” “Yes he’s very nice… He helped me a lot when i had an accident.” “How did he help you? *sibuk* ” “When i had an accident, i couldn’t work for a long time… and he gave me money to pay my rent.” “Aww… that is so nice of him… *feels so proud of Willy* ” “Yeah, he’s a very nice guy,” Najib repeated.
We were quiet for a while, probably lost in our own thoughts of what an angel Willy is.
“How long have you been a masseuse?” I asked, because he was so good at feeling the painful spots on my back. “Since i became blind… 4 years here in Sifu, but i took a course in 2001, and since then, i’ve been massaging.”
Silence as i pondered how one became blind at such a young age.
I decided to ask…
“May i ask… how did you get blind?” “I got blind when i was 19. Doctors call it retinal detachment. I was playing basketball and the ball hit my face.” “Oh my god… it was from basketball?” “Yeah… 27th May 1999… a bad time for me. Next week, it would have been 11 years i’m blind.”
Silence again as he concentrated, and i thought about the card Fate dealt him.
Imagine being able to see most of your life,
and then losing your sense of sight just when you’re about to be an adult…
Imagine the pain and anger and sense of loss…
Imagine blaming the stupid ball, and wishing he’d never touched a basketball in his life…
Imagine never being able to see colour anymore!
Imagine if he could see, i might have met him at a bar,
instead of having him as my masseuse.
I felt so sorry for him,
and that he was so brave,
at the same time.
I walked out of the spa feeling grateful for my kneaded back,
my eyesight,
and how so far Fate has been very kind to me.
I just hope that in times of distress,
i can be as strong as Najib was and is.
Popped by the MODA by Sunsilk fashion show last Friday night.
But not before wrapping up work and packing for flight to SG the next morn.
Ended up an hour late,
which might have been just as well cos i heard the show featuring 33 designers was 2 hours long!
Didn’t take any runway pix cos i forgot my camera in my rush,
but yayers for instagram!
In the dark, I thought these blinged up Sunsilk bottles were people’s purses at first…
till i thought it’s just not POSSIBLE so many ppl have the same purse left lying around -_-
I never knew Nino was part French and speaks the language very well.
At least Clem and him could go bond, while Sasha and i pottered about.
Sasha Rowena, Nurita Harith & me
Sasha designs bags which you can view at www.sasharowena.com. Nurita designs clothes, her current collection is my favourite of hers so far – featuring folds of organza. She’ll also be releasing NH soon, a more affordable line under her umbrella brand.
I’ve recently been hearing the name Benson Chen when i ask a few friends what shoes they’re wearing at fashion events.
Hailing from Penang, Benson already has a few awards under his name such as:
– Most Creative Design in the Malaysia Footwear Competition 2010
– 1st Prize for Ladies Fashion Shoe Design in the Malaysian Footwear Competition 2010
– 2nd Runner Up for Lady’s Boots Design in the International Footwear Competition 2010
Not bad for a 19-year-old ey?
Benson has a reputation of designing styles with heel heights of only 3 inches and higher, which i must say i’m all for.
When it comes to my shoes, it’s 3 inches plus, or nothing (flats).
MIFA will be throwing a Masquerade-themed Shoe Party for Benson Chen
Venue: The Twelve @ Fahrenheit 88
Time: 6pm Saturday 21st May
If you’d like to attend the party, please email joycethefairy@gmail.com
with your FULL NAME.
First 30 readers to RSVP will receive the invite.
Please entitle the email “Benson Chen x MIFA”
Deadline: 12pm Friday 20th May
Unfortunately, i don’t foresee it happening in my life anytime soon.
Sometimes i can’t even find my own things (book, ipod, razor)
and accuse Clem of hiding it every time i can’t find something.
I suspect it’s backlash from his accusing me when he lost his soap bar.
Anyway i was googling up Bond girls cos i never actually memorize who they are,
and seeing how iconic being a Bond girl is,
they’d make for good dinner table conversation some day!
Plus okay, i wanted to study what they wore
(which i discovered, is essentially very little clothing -_-)
Here are some of them, that might enlighten you too! >
Tsai Chin as Ling – You Only Live Twice (1967)
If you look at her current pictures of her older self, you can recognize her from The Joy Luck Club too!
Interesting fact: Her brother is Michael Chow, of the Mr. Chow restaurant chain; which therefore also makes her the aunt of model China Chow!
Daniela Bianchi as Tatiana Romanova – From Russia With Love (1963)
Interesting fact: She was 1st Runner Up in the 1960 Miss Universe contest
Rosamund Pike as Miranda Frost – Die Another Day (2002)
Not-so-interesting fact: Her parents are opera singers
Ivana Miličević as Valenka – Casino Royale (2006)
Interesting fact: She was also in Love Actually, and her younger brother Tomo is guitarist for 30 Seconds to Mars (Jared Leto? Hellooo)
Gemma Arterton as Strawberry Fields – Quantum of Solace (2008)
Interesting fact: did you know Gemma has an extra digit, also known as polydactyly? Now i know the proper term for it!
I feel like doing a Bond movie marathon after researching all that.
On the lighter side of all things Bond,
what if secret agent Bond was not a person but… a potato?
Click to watch the vid below! >
[If you read the below without watching the vid,
you won’t understand what i’m saying]
I love how the potato is even wearing the suit,
complete with turning around at right moment
and iconic blood dripping down the background!
Also, i have a question…
how do the potatoes hold their cards in the casino?!
The vid is from this series of new vids being posted up online.
There’s another one called Samurai Potato which i like even better than the first.
Prollie because i watched so much anime when i was in college and the graphics remind me of them – they’re really good!
I like the *frap*frap* of the cloth flapping in the wind,
how it’s done in black and white,
the sped up zooming effects,
slo-mo jumping…
and what happened to the potato in the end.
I was thinking that if i was to fight a potato,
the many ways i’d be able to kill and eat them…
