Fly in little Cessna plane over KL with JFK!

Comments (5) La la la

I met JFK when we went to Malacca for Relay For Life,
he sat in front of me in the bus.
‘Twas like school y’know,
trying to fit in and make friends on bus all   :xlaughing:

JFK has been a private pilot for almost 10 years
and has just got his professional pilots license from Australia in 2009 i.e. big planes and big money!
On the side, you may have heard him talking on Hitz.FM.

Radio announcer and pilot mashed into one person?
Some people are too talented wei   :xwhatevah:
I would accidentally curse on radio so i fail there.
And i would get distracted by a pretty cloud and kill everyone in the plane i’m flying.

Just the other day i took the wrong turning cos a BIG PRETTY LEAF floated in front of my car and i was fawning over it thinking
oh so pretty! leaf!
what a big beautiful leaf!
nice and gold and so huge how did it get here!?
what if i was a leaf… i could float here and there
or… oh shit. where AM i GOING.
i took the wrong turnoff -_-
damn leaf… distracted me….

So i can just see how i’ll be flying a plane:

ooh! cloud! looks like a… a chinese warrior walking a bunny rabbit!
(yes i’ve seen that before i swear)
wow! i should take a picture of it before it changes in the NEXT TEN SECONDS
*fumble for camera*lets go of steering*

And catastrophe would happen next.
I think i’m lucky as it is i’ve never had an accident while driving and taking pictures of clouds
*touch wood*
Or just something interesting i drive past…
The other day i saw a car with the number plate KBF 1 and almost crashed into the side tyring to snap a picture :p

ANYWAY I DIGRESSED!

Besides flying big commercial planes,
JFK also takes people up in a small 4-seater Cessna
for 30/40-minute flights around KL.
He offered to take me up in it,
so i can blog about my experience.
And being the adventure slut i am,
readily jumped at the chance!

ejfkflight_13

I invited Jess along for the ride and we met JFK at Subang airport
on a beautiful clear morning at 9AM.
He took Harith Iskandar up just before us,
so we got to see them land while we were munching on our breakfast in McDs.

Jess all excited and ready to go! As always.
She’s always excited and ready at any given moment.

ejfkflight_11

I brought Maurice along for the ride too!

JFK let me steer the plane for 5-10 minutes!
He let go of his wheel and got me to steer it so KLCC would be on our right.
It was a bit scary at first (again, my thoughts of WHAT IF I KILL US ALL)
but i got the hang of it.
Even managed to follow his instructions and change altitude   :xpleased:

ejfkflight_9

Going past KLCC!

ejfkflight_78

I pestered JFK to do a loop,
and he looked at me while flying the plane going, “You want me to do a loop? Are you sure? Are you sure?”
Then without ANY warning, he PUSHED THE STEERING to DIP THE PLANE down
and Jess and i were like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
SCREAMING ALL THE WAY
My butt practically lifted off the seat and i felt like i was in a cardboard box in the air!
So fun tho, BETTER than a rollercoaster!

ejfkflight_7

View was breathtaking.
It was such a beautiful experience to observe KL from a peaceful angle, in the sky!
No traffic jams mwahahah

ejfkflight_8

me, Jess, JFK
hey, all our names begin with ‘J’!

ejfkflight_6

Batu Caves. I didn’t know Batu Caves jutted out like that, did you?

ejfkflight_5

The Curve / IKEA

The flight seemed to end way too soon…
and we were up in the air for 40 minutes too!

ejfkflight_3

This is how you park a Cessna, with brute strength.

ejfkflight_2

Jess and i

i’m wearing basic top from Leftblock,
patterned harem pants from Sevendays,
shoes from Kurt Geiger,
holiday fish tote from Jim Thompson

Check out this cool vid Jess made of our flight that day!

Thanks for the flight JFK!

ejfkflight_1

I think taking a short flight up is a perfect way to show some visitors in KL around!
It costs about RM500-600 for a 30-40 minute ride with JFK,
and getting him to take you up is a bonus cos he talks so much (hence his radio announcer gig)
So a crazy tourguide and a plane ride for 3 pax will cost
RM200 per person!

Dreamgirls the Musical @ Istana Budaya KL

Comments (2) Dailydress, Musical

I have been REALLY excited for Dreamgirls the Musical to start showing in KL.
Knew about it a few months ago cos Dhanya said she’ll be involved in it   :xlaughing:

bdreamgirls_7

Info for those who don’t know what Dreamgirls is (tsk!)

“Based upon the show business aspirations and successes of R&B acts such as
The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, and others,
the musical follows the story of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois
called “The Dreams”, who become music superstars.
The musical opened on December 20, 1981 at the Imperial Theatre,
and was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards,
including the Tony Award for Best Musical, and won six.
It was later adapted into a motion picture from DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures in 2006.”

bdreamgirls_6

The rights to show Dreamgirls in KL was licensed directly from Broadway (New York)
by a local production company called Broadway Academy which aims at bringing our local performing arts industry on par with the international level.

bdreamgirls_3

The cast for the show:
Effie White – Elvira Arul (actor and singer)
Curtis Taylor Jr. – Tony Eusoff ( actor and singer )
Deena Jones – Cheryl Samad (celebrity TV host and presenter)
Lorrell Robinson – Azura Zainal (celebrity TV host and presenter )
Michelle Morris – Ruzana Ibrahim (singer from the group Lushes)
C.C White – Dafi (Akademi Fantasia 5 finalist)
Marty Madison – Indi Nadarajah (Comedy Court)
Dina – Understudy for Effie White and ensemble (Malaysian Idol Season 1)
Reefa – Understudy for Jimmy Thunder and ensemble (rapper and celebrity DJ)

Broadway Academy also brought in a special guest performer,
Kris Coleman, from Broadway, New York to play the role of Jimmy Early Thunder.

He’s soooo sexy (cough i love you Clem :p)
and i couldn’t help grinning like an idiot when he was doing his moves and singing his solos.
I knew there was one Broadway NY performer who’s in the show,
and it was obvious right away it was him.

However, Clem did ask whether the rest of the cast was local
cos he thought they were brilliant on an international level as well!

bdreamgirls_5

All the casts’ solo parts blew me away.
When i watched it last night, Dina played Effie White instead of Elvira,
and her voice struck everyone silent, before roaring!
People were cheering and whooping,
it was such a treat to hear that girl sing like that!
I had two words in my head when she pulled her notes: Fucking. Fantastic.

bdreamgirls_2

My FAVOURITE actress last night was Azura,
i just couldn’t stop LOOKING AT HER even with so many others on stage.
We’ve always chatted at events but i’ve never watched her perform before,
and was so dumbfounded at how she can sing and act and SHINE on stage!
(was also thinking how unfair life is for i have no singing talent whatsoever boohoo!)
Her natural energy was bouncing across the theatre and i was so so so impressed with her performance.
I was gushing about her during intermission, and Nigel agreed with me saying she just POPPED on stage.
So brilliant. I love you Azuraaaaaa *manic fan wave*

bdreamgirls_4

I loved listening to Tony Eusoff sing as well,
again, i’ve never watched him perform (cacat la i)
and was duly impressed at how talented our local performers are!

Cheryl Samad’s American accent was impeccable,
and she’s so slim i could barely see her on stage   :xlaughing:

bdreamgirls_1

If i were you, i’d try to buy tickets closer to the front cos being able to see the performers’ expressions and acting makes a marvelous difference!

Comments (8) Food

Right now i cook on an average of 3 times a week.
Any more and i feel like it’s a chore,
so i only do it WHEN and BECAUSE i want to!

Tried cooking this Swedish dish called pytt i panna,
followed it off Jamie Oliver’s book but found it online if you wanna try it *here*
I didn’t love it, so don’t think i’ll bother with it again.
Too dry for my taste. I want GRAVY.

Swedish meatballs are easy to mix but a bore to roll into balls :p

bvodkast_7

breadcrumbs / allspice / herbs / egg / milk
I love mixing! It’s the fun part about cooking,
kinda like conjuring up a secret magic potion.

bvodkast_6

Fun to schmush everything with my hands

bvodkast_5

Rolling is kinda tedious though.
When i was rolling meatball after meatball,
i was thinking, “Luckily i’m only making for Clem and myself… imagine making for a family of kids. Sweat here like a slave man.”

bvodkast_4

Meatballs were great, have cooked it another time since i took this (bad) pic.

+ + +

Another recipe i go to quite regularly is Nigella’s vodka-marinated beef.
It just sounds so canggih how you have to soak the big piece of beef in vodka, oil, garlic and herbs for 48 hours.

bvodkast_3

After separating the meat, i squeeze all the vodka (don’t waste alco!) and herb juices out into a pan to make the sauce.

bvodkast_2

Searing the meat for just a few mins per side so it’s nice and pink in the middle.

bvodkast_1

It’s easy and yummehhhh
I cooked it for a dinner party of 8 and it was a hit.

+ + +

I LOVE steak tartare… have recently discovered the utter joy and simplicity of making my own at home.
No more paying for overpriced steak tartare!
(but i’d still buy it in France, it’s amazing there)
Just gotta make sure i get superb fresh pieces of sirloin.
I get mine from the gourmet section on BSC’s ground floor.

bvodkast_13

Cutting the beef up into delicate little slices is ever-so-slightly painstaking,
but the anticipation of eating it after spurs me on wonderfully.

bvodkast_12

Simply chop up gherkins, capers, onions and parsley,
drizzle olive oil, season with sea salt and pepper,
pour over an egg yolk, and i’m ready to be in my 15 minutes of heaven.

bvodkast_11

+ + +

Something i cook on a regular basis for myself (usually for Sat lunch)
is mushroom pasta. Really easy and yummy.
Mushrooms + cheese + herbs + butter

bvodkast_16

 + + +

I don’t cook rice often, not to mention our new rice cooker i used ONE time has spoilt.
Fail la. Just haven’t had time to take it to fix (malas)
and the store didn’t chop my warranty card so i can’t even claim it -_-

Tried sake steak and rice.
Had to marinate the steak in sake
and i’m starting to love this habit of marinating everything in diff types of alcohol!
I love alcohol.
I love food.
So food IN alcohol = WIN

bvodkast_15

+ + +

Clem doesn’t *love* seafood so i don’t cook it often.
Feel so wasted cos it’s not cheap especially if he doesn’t HEART it!
I bought langoustines and clams to do a seafood pasta one night,
and I love it so much i cooked it again for Kubhaer’s lunch cos he’s flying off for long adventures.

bvodkast_14

It’s so easy… just fry garlic and onion in oil for a minutes,
splash in lots of white wine
and throw in the tomatoes and seafood to cook till they’re done!

I was a bit enthusiastic with the wine (as always)
but discovered that the more wine i put, the more gravy there’ll be for gravy-loving people like me!

So there’s my cooking adventures for now.
Still trying and experimenting.
I’d say cooking has altered my appreciation for outside food.
Sometimes i look at prices and think, “Man. I could cook this at home for half the price.”
But of course there are still heaps of things i don’t know how to do yet.

I haven’t really tried Asian food cos
1. i can buy it so easily anywhere here for cheap
2. it’s depressing how it can’t live up to my mom’s cooking

Can’t wait to buy an oven,
i’ve been surviving my cooking experiments on just the stove.

Imagine all the SWEETS i’ll be baking then!
Clem’s gonna get so fat -_-

Random blabbering

I’m finally well again!
After a full week of the viral flu,
i stopped taking medicine yesterday, phew.

The good thing about freelancing when you’re sick is that you don’t have a boss you have to call every day to say you’re not coming in.
The not-so-good thing about freelancing then, is that i’m basically a one-woman show that has to go on even though my body says no.
Had these awful headaches that were worrying me cos i never used to get any even when i get sick.
Is it growing older… or what?! Ish.

But it’s a good week to be well!
So many things going on!
I’m going to watch Dreamgirls at Istana Budaya!
Another night is Clem’s French National Day gala at the embassy.
There’s the Maxis / BlackBerry PlayBook event, Jaspal fashion show,
and URBANSCAPES this Sat!

I got over 40 entries to give 5x pairs of tickets to,
crazy, you guys are really excited about it too huh!!
SalahWrong will be playing at 9pm-11pm so come over to TiC Turf for some happy clappy dancey tunes!

OK i’m gonna sleep now,
woke up early for yoga,
and have been an advertorial churner all afternoon,
before handmaking meatballs for dinner.
Making your own meatballs is love, i can tell you that!

Maybe i’ll blog about all the stuff i’ve been cooking,
haven’t done that for awhile,
and nothing better than looking at pictures of food heeheeeeee

FLY THIS FAIRY to Bangkok!

FINALLY!

Malaysia has a Prepaid Data Roaming program!

Everytime i travel, i feel like i’m going thru Separation from Internet Syndrome.
My fingers twitch cos i really WANT to tweet about what’s happening to me real-time,
but most occasions i don’t get a local internet sim cos it’s just not worth it!
Other applications i want to use while traveling like GoogleMaps, TripAdvisor, etc, is so difficult without an internet connection!

Now, Hotlink is the first in the country to introduce Prepaid Data Roaming,
so all outbound Hotlink users can retrieve data while roaming internationally!
If you think this applies to just a few cities near us, you’re wrong!
The service currently covers 150 destinations around the world – and counting!

To put Hotlink’s Data Roaming to the test,
they’re sending some bloggers on holidays but YOU have to vote for us
