Party in my tummy!

Comments (4) Food

Just some of the stuff i’ve been scoffing of late. I just want to write about food, really. I LOVE talking about food! Since i’m back to a (soddof)ย freelance mode, i spend some mornings in my apartment and need to eat breakfast cos i honestly can’t survive till lunch.

I’ve started eating organic cereal and milk with psyllium husks sprinkled on top. The first time Tianna gave me a vacuumed pack of these husks, i thought it was a sponge to bathe with. Some people have them in their juice but it makes me pukey drinking gloopy stuff so i chomp on it with cereal instead. I’ve been rotating between almond and hazelnut milk (thanks to Yishyene raving to me about it). Hazelnut is sweeter, but i love the taste of almonds so i sometimes drink it… for fun. A few weekends ago, we decided to just chill at home and i found myself drinking almond milk on the sofa on a Saturday night. Felt a bit lame but i felt good MORE.

Went for weekend briyani at Fierce Curry House with the sotongs. Cammy and i wanted to sit in the air conditioned area but the two french guys wanted to sit outside in the heat…White people. Always hate aircon. There was once my colleagues and i were preparing the meeting room for some Europeans and they turned the aircon up high. I said, “You better put it on low… white people hate air con.” They didn’t heed my words. One hour later when the clients were in, we were asked to ‘please switch off the air con’ altogether. SEE.

I eat at Fat Spoonย once a week. Sometimes when i’m in between meetings and can’t find someone to have lunch with last minute, i pop into Fat Spoon ‘cos Chelle will always be there. It’s like my second home ๐Ÿ˜€

I have a habit of always ordering either ‘Fat Spoon noodles with less koay teow’ or ‘spicy beef soup but replace macaroni with nissin noodles’ (yeah i edit all my orders). For once, i tried the sampan noodles pictured above. This might make it to my regular list now.

Clem is obsessed with English breakfasts. He’s tried lots of places in KL and swears by Jarrod & Rawlins‘. Our usual habit is for him to takeaway his breakfast, and me to takeaway my Asian one (cos i always want laksa or chili pan mee) and we eat at home together. On a rare occasion, we went to J&R together and i ended up ordering… a gourmet version of chili pan mee for RM27 -.-

J.W. Anderson x Topshop Launch @ Singapore

Comments (2) Fashion

The fashion community was abuzz last weekend as British designer J.W. Anderson flew in to Singapore to promote his latest capsule collection with Topshop. Having debuted his men’s collection at London Fashion Week 2007, Jonathan went on to design womenswear and accessories. You can view his past and current runway collections *here*.

In recent news, his more affordable pieces are known to fly off the high street racks in the UK, making it obvious that the generation of NOW is loving his keenness for clean lines with a punch of playful. Looking at his past designs that include juxtopositioned fabrics and prints, you’d decide rather quickly that J.W. Anderson is a designer that not many can carry off. Yet, he claims to want all women and girls to love his clothes, and has proved that with some classic tartan and striped pieces in the new Topshop collection (interjected with his own style of course).

Topshop flew a bunch of Malaysian media and bloggers down to Singapore, seeing they were going all out with only one big event in South East Asia. We had a huge dinner together before adjourning to this warehouse at Helutrans.

It was a huge warehouse that didn’t look like an event was going on, till we spotted a hugely lit Topshop installation outside the main entrance. We walked in and saw velvet ropes and Topshop stickers stuck on the floor…

To get upstairs to the event we had to press the lift and wait for the shutters to roll up.

Clouds and i.

I’m wearing a top from Old Blossom Box Store, leopard pants from Beautiful Disaster, shoes from Topshop. I just have to add that i packed this while completely hungover from partying till 5am with a bunch of drunk French people. In fact, i was still quite hungover AS this picture above was taken.

In the lift going up! The doors slid up from the other side revealing a corridor that’s minimalist white and lit in blue with Topshop x JW Anderson branding all over the place. Really cool venue actually!

Some of the KL peeps! > Claudia from Tongue In Chic, me, Yana from Eh!, and Cai Mei from Harper’s Bazaar.

The area where the new collection was being showcased was crazy with all these people… so i thought it’d be better i just photoshop my favourite pieces below >

All from JW Anderson x Topshop:
Quilted Paisley Silk Tee; Tortoise Print Jeans; Zebra Print T-Shirt;
Quilted Paisley Tees x2

Claudia. Cos she just too cute.

I thought i’d attempt taking some style shots of people whose looks i like at the event and the first person i targeted was this girl cos of her swell jacket (i kept on glancing at it longingly). Turns out her name is Melanie and she works as a Personal Shopper at Topshop.

I caught sight of Linda and Grace and just RAN to them. Urm one of the deciding factors for me to fly to SG for this event was knowing i’d see them cos they were both spinning that night! They brought me to meet Jonathan >

Some of the outfits i’ve been throwing on myself this month. I’m not working full-time anymore (forward to fashion adventures!) but i still freelance as a media strategist/storyteller when the occasion arises. Below was one of those occasion. Had a pitch that day so had to wear all black:

My ‘HUH?!’ face
black crop top; leftblock (we’re tryna revive it so wish us luck!)
harem pants; sevendays
necklace & studded flats; topshop
oversized mesh shirt; SEETHROUGHย

This was the day afterย the H&M party.ย So i was really hungover. And i must have still been drunk when i threw on these clothes. Went toย Fat Spoonย to get me some of my fave hungover food – FAT SPOON NOODLES.
fuchsia hat; hnm shanghai
shorts; azorias
top; thrifted
bucket bag; bimba & lola
shoes; cole haan lunargrand

Thanks to Melium for these cool Cole Haan kicks before they’re launched ๐Ÿ˜‰

It was a really hot Saturday. My hair was all over the place and considered too long in my opinion. I just got it redone so it’s nice and SHORT with a red wave underneath now. Phew.
singlet; topman
striped tights; uniqlo

Went for Thai dinner with my parents & Clem.
top & skirt; bangkok
shoes;ย topshop

Thanks to Topshop for these flats too. I’m lucky i knowwwwww

Went out to the bar to meet Aps for drinks. She’s my drinking kaki. But i think we’re trying to cut down our alcohol intake so we might become… dinner buddies. We’ll see. I might have to take my words back.
top; azorias
necklace; from some remote village in Myanmar
bag; lv

Oh, there’s this story about this LV bag… i’ve been carrying smaller clutches of late so i can slip it next to my driver’s seat instead of leaving it on the passenger seat and inviting trouble i.e. thieves. Usually i carry this black studded one. But i *found* this LV bag that i bought years ago when i was in Italy with my family. I’ve never used it. Ever. I don’t know. I think after i got it, i entered this whole anti-monogram phase. And i actually EXPLAINED to Aps why i was carrying such a bag that night. She said, “I can’t believe you’re apologizing for carrying an LV.” And i was like, “I know, but it goes against everything i believe in!” :p So there. I thought of splashing some paint on it to make it more ‘me’ but i i never got to it.

Happy Sunday where we went for Fierce Curry briyani! It was the first weekend in ages i had time to spend with Clem and our friends instead of working working working. So i took FULL opportunity of it and tanned, swam and drank cocktails with Kenny & Cammy.
sunnies; henry holland x le specs
toucan headband; bangkok
swimsuit; topshop

Blur picture but what the hell.
Happened to stumble upon the new OPI colours from their James Bond collection.
I’ve got The Living Daylights on over The World Is Not Enough.
It’s so awesomely sparkly… it makes me feel better when i’m not feeling so great and happen to glance at it.

I gots myself a phone cover and necklace from Echo & Keera

My bathroom mouse i adopted from Rome.

Flats from Tory Burch. Clutch from Brisbane.
And a slightly more classic dress from Doublewoot.

Johor: The Girl Next Door TGND // Roost // My Little Corner salon + restaurant

Comments (5) Fashion, Food, Johor, Malaysia, Travel

I really wanted to share these awesome places in Johor with you all… if you are ever in JB, you MUST drop by them cos they’re too super fabulous to miss. When Tianna and i arrived on a Friday evening, we were pretty pooped and rested awhile i.e. played with our iPhone/iPad before making our way out to:
1) get a massage
2) visit TGND boutique
3) have dinner at hawker stalls on Jalan Meldrum

Only one out of the three things happened. But it’s okay, cos we visited new places that totally made our night!

First place we dropped by was TGND boutique. AKAย The Girl Next Door,ย i first visited it when i was last in Johor 3 years back and totally fell in love with the owner, Beverly. So i really wanted to see her again and visit her shop and buy some pieces.

Ti and i asked the hotel concierge for some basic directions even tho i had my Google maps on my phone. Just to make sure we walked down the shorter road y’know. He told us it’s better to take a cab cos it’s ‘jauh’ (far). I was like, “Jauh? My phone says lima minit saja untuk jalan… (only 5 mins to walk)” He cocked his head at us and basically said if he walked, it’d take 5 minutes and if *we* walked, it’d take us 15 minutes ย -.-

Us girls were feeling rather indignant after that, “WE can walk!” “Hmph, what an insult!” “What, they think girls don’t walk!?” We’re the walking kinda girls okay. We were in Europe for months and over there, you have no choice BUT to walk! Most days i’d walk for 6-8 hours a day! 15 minutes… pah!

So we left him scratching his head at why we didn’t just take a taxi, and we proceeded to walk to TGND on Jalan Dhoby. On the way we got distracted by a Hindi DVD shop and ended up spending some time in there choosing some movies and A.R. Rahman MP3s (ok that was me) to buy. So perhaps we took longer than 15 minutes, but that’s cos girls always manage to find good deals along the way.

The first time i visited TGND was a different shop lot and B has since moved her shop.

This is Beverly Bee. I say she’s got a superhero name and is absolutely adorable.

And THIS. Is what i call a downright proper shoe wall. I WANT this in my house! Hello Clem? Take note… ๐Ÿ˜€

B has awesome crazy taste. Right down my fashion alley.

If *i* had a boutique, i’d SO put barbie shoes next to real ones just to make customers do a double take too!

I wouldn’t have thought of this tho… Lamp made of spectacles
