A quick post with pix from my cousin SmallMinkyMin’s birthday family dinner before i run off to pack for Jakarta!
My aunt and uncle shipped back all this furniture that belonged to my uncle’s parents
that have been in their family in England since the early 1900s
Beautiful woodwork!
Superold mahjong set from HK
How fashion changes… my grannie’s bag which i wouldn’t mind using!
Uncle Mark + Mok
Poor crab that was eaten for dinner.
I didn’t eat it, couldn’t bear to after we christened it Stamford (Raffles).
Happy Birthday dear
If i had to say one birthday line to you, it’d be: I’m very proud with the way you grew up!
My uncle and aunt have matching Curves,
so she sticks a star sticker on hers to differentiate it.

I’m very sorry i missed your show and you actually started on time!
Must be the MIFW karma getting back at me :p
I heard from a few people that it was FANTASTIC tho…
makes me feel lagi worse!
DarlingDhanya was telling me about this hooha – how she (as the winner of 50 Gorgeous Ppl) was supposed to be on the cover of Female with the male winner as well (it was part of the prize wut); but how they retracted and gave excuses for it.
Then BubblyBel also happened to tell us how she blocked a date for the cover of Female Brides and they canceled on her without rescheduling.
I won’t go into detail la… not my story to tell.
But i just felt horrible for them.
You can ask them about it for full story.
I was to go to Teeq and Rootz @ Lot 10 rooftop for QueenKanch’s early birthday celebration,
and dragged DarlingDhanya along with me.
She be so sweet, she bought 2 Othellos from Cupcake Chic for her.
One of which, i drunkardly stole from Kanch later on that night.
Sorry Kanchy… >.< I felt quite guilty this morning!
On our way into Teeq,
DarlingDhanya and i bumped into Joseph Teoh (Marketing Manager for Gardens) and Kenneth Goh (Harper’s Bazaar Fashion Director).
Kenneth gave me a head-to-toe glance, and commented, “You look great!” while nodding,
and Joseph voicing out in agreement. “Thanks!” i replied brightly.
In actual fact *imagine cartoon version of me in my head going:*
“HAMYGAD! KENNETH GOH JUST SAID I LOOK GREAT! BLESS!”
Yes, the little fangirl that i am. At least i tau maintain :p
In the restaurant, the other girls had bubbly, whereas i went for a bottle of red.
For myself.
I think i overestimated how long we’d be sitting there,
so i did share a couple of glasses with them :p
I know a bottle sounds a lot, but it comes down to 5 glasses okay!
And 5 – 2 = 3, so i only had 3 glasses!
Or maybe 4.
I was hyping myself to edit some runway shots of this morning’s MIFW show,
but am going to throw all the blame on RingoCheesie for chatting too long and making me laugh too loud in the middle of the night
+ + +
So… am just going to put these pix and rant i wrote earlier first.
Will add more pix tomorrow!
I met up with my old school friend Yishyene this morning,
as i’d invited her to come with me for MIFW.
She’s been working in London for the past 2 years and is back for hols.
Seeing she’s been to some shows at London Fashion Week and well, loves fashion,
i figured she’d enjoy it.
Oh, Yishyene…
I’m SORRY i invited you for a 4-hour show!!!
Justin‘s very proud of his eco-friendly shoes from Spain,
with heels made from recycled tyres.
A fashion disaster sitting in front of us…
i was so so tempted to ask permission to betulkan it for her…
but didn’t in the end.
My fashion conscience is weighing down on me now.
We waited for an hour before the show started.
AN HOUR.
I wish i had gone for coffee before that then!
I know night shows confirmed will start late, but tak sangka morning one will start that late too.
Thank the fairies for my BlackBerry…
I was checking my emails, including replying one about some shoes i ordered from Yunique Paradise
I still am not over how convenient and productive i can be with a BlackBerry when occasions that require waiting transpire.
Looking around me,
i saw a few other people fiddling with their Berries,
including Datuk Farah Khan who’s seated next to SunshineySteph (who’s next to me)

When it did start, there were so many long speeches that Tweets spread around like fire that people were yawning/speeches were too long
I even heard from one of the designers that models backstage were mocking how long the speeches were.
/ / / / / / Then the show started bla bla bla this is the part i add in missing runway pictures i’m too lazy to edit now cos it’s past 3am and i have to wake up for a hair appointment, and personally, that is higher on my priority list right now whoops did i just type that / / / / / /
Here’s one picture of supermodel Ai Tominaga at MIFW:
Thanks to dear Jimmy for the invites! His friend Sam on the right.
Jimmy’s was undoubtedly one of the strongest collections i saw this morning
(I may be bias, but i heard DFK got his contact for who-knows-what )
Around my neck is a horse hair necklace i specifically asked from him,
along with another piece i intend to buy.
I called it my hairy penis while stroking it.
Sorry if i scared people around me.
Actually, no, i’m not sorry.
As i walked up to Grandmama’s restaurant for lunch,
I brewed over the day’s show.
And got more and more upset and pissed the more i thought about it.
The show was SUCH a mix of great and bad design,
that the bad unfortunately over shone the rest.
So many of the young designers who showed fantastic work last year didn’t show this year.
Why?
I asked some of them and the answers were all around the same:
– they couldn’t afford to
– MIFW doesn’t really support them
– they don’t want to part of such an organisation after previous encounters
The ones who could afford to (despite not being actual designers) were chucked in alongside other passionate designers.
It just made the whole show look so messy.
I can’t believe people had to sit thru and watch a so-called fashion show on some jewelry that looked like it could have come from the pasar malam (pasar malam description courtesy of Yishyene)
There was no original design to it, and the overall presentation was terrible.
Just because people have money to pay to partake in the fashion show, you let them?
What about quality? What about real passion for design and fashion?
You could easily tell that some of the designs that floated down the runway were amateur,
and were only up there because some people had the money.
Yes, life is unfair.
Yes, MIFW is business, and at the end of the day, it’s about money.
And yes, i feel heartache that the young designers who are capable of flaunting new ideas and taking bigger fashion chances can’t present their ideas to a larger audience.
I would have loved to see a more organized set of designers put in a show,
and not a rojak of great + bad design.
In one sentence:
I FELT ASHAMED to bring my friend who’s attended London Fashion Week to MIFW!
Justin invited me to attend the MIFW “Fall Into Style” Opening Night with him,
and i said “Okay!” along with him dressing me in one of his Fall/Winter pieces.
Fashion blogger temaning fashion designer to opening of fashion week, dressed in one of his designs…
So cliche right?
I went for a fitting with him last week,
and the dress was JUST nice (with almost no room for me to breathe).
We didn’t have time to meet up after alteration (which was to make it slightly shorter at the waist cos i ees no model height -_- DAMN these model-sized dresses!),
so we planned to meet at Eleanor‘s boutique for me to get ready there.
Today, i called him and said: “I’m sorry… but since last week, i’ve been eating like it’s a buffet every day..!” “… Maybe you should bring an extra dress in case…”
“Wah gonna make me cry!”
Joyce is Starving Model, fail.
Justin more worried about his make up than me -_-
I was secretly apprehensive when i zipped the dress up,
and luckily it was still okay!
But i had to sit up straight while driving,
holding my drink,
and basically the entire night.
I tried pretending it was a back brace, a couture one, that is.
Marcus + SusuAnn (i used to call her SueOkToAlcoAnn but it’s damn long not to mention inappropriate as Managing Editor of TIC… change!)
I tweeted from my Blackberry that i was getting a backache having to suck it in in a model-sized dress,
and got a reply from fierceboi aka Sonny San:
I don’t think i’ve been called “bloody sexy” in ages *deprived*
I LOVE being able to tweet from my BB and get compliments that boost my ego!

Justin playing around with the cam and snapping a picture of my chest -_-
“No peekchur!” – Ellie
We bumped into Jimmy, who looked exhausted from preparing for his show tomorrow morning
I took a candid shot of them three talking important designer-ey stuff *avoids flying mannequin*
Dunnola, the show was kinda boring *slaps hand over mouth*
And we left right after it ended, to go eat >.<
(Looks like i’m not the only one… *click**click*)
: : Edit : :
Decided to add Maggie Abang Saufi‘s tweets regarding tonight cos she ranted so much :p
“How was it?” asked RowdyRudy “It was disappointing. I can’t believe i had to pay money to watch that.”
“OH MY GOD. You must be the ONLY person i know who did not say it’s amazing!” “… I’m serious ok. Maybe everyone’s blinded cos he’s dead, and anything they show about him is great now.”
I’m not trying to be kurang ajar, but it’s true!
I knew it was going to be behind-the-scene rehearsal shots,
and maybe i was expecting more narration to it.
I’m not saying i’d rather not see those behind-the-scene shots,
of course i wanted to!
There were so many thoughts running through my head as i watched it:
How he could still pull smooth dance moves at his age
How he was ahead of fashion and influencing architectural shoulders and military jackets
How fab the dancers look and how, perhaps, i should have pursued dancing (crazy thoughts, see)
How fantastic and creative the direction for the concert woulda shoulda coulda been
How sad it is that nobody got to experience his last concert save for the team rehearsing
I just don’t think those rehearsal clips can justify being on the big screen…
It seems more suited on home video or something.
Kinda obvious that Sony is making hell alot of money from MJ fans out there and milking it for all it’s worth after his death.
Ironic how when the show ended, i thought, “That’s it?”
And almost laughed out loud at myself, before sighing from disappointment
