I instagramed a picture of this new toy i got to play with last month ๐
Girls went crazy about the colour. I don’t think i’ve got so many likes for an instagram picture before!
The Samsung NX1000 is obviously targeted at women as it’s also available in white, and weighs a mere 200gm (the lightest camera in its class). I was at a shoot the other day and let some photographer friends hold the camera, and they all too agreed that it’s surprisingly light ๐
What sets the NX1000 apart from ALL the others… is that it’s got a WIFI option. You know how we’ve got smartphones everywhere, well now we’ve got a SMART CAMERA!
There’s LOTS i can do with the WIFI option! I can use:
– MobileLink to directly beam photos to my iOS or Android smartphone.
– Social Sharing lets me upload pictures to Facebook/Picasa/Photobucket, and vids to YouTube(!)
– Remote Viewfinder allows me to control the NX1000 with my smartphone (VERY COOL).
– Other features i would hope for: like emailing pics/vids; auto backup to transfer pics/vids to PC wirelessly; and TV Link which lets me play pics/vids on other devices when they’re connected to the same wireless access point.
For the first time in my life, i was able to upload a picture from the camera straight to Facebook without taking out my SD card, or using a cable!
I posted my first picture onto Facebook *here*
Yeah i was just sitting on my sofa testing out the cam. I took the picture using this special filter that’s included.
[I’m posting a step-by-step guide on how the screen looks when i use MobileLink, Remote Viewfinder and Social Sharing further down in this blogpost]There’s a Magic dial on the NX1000 where ten Smart Filters are available to take some cool shots. The one i used above is Old Film 2. Below are some of my favourite filters:
Old Film 2
Fish Eye – i couldn’t stop laughing at this one of me. I can take lots of fat pictures of people!
Halftone Dots – i took this in a random bar in Koh Lipe… and the picture made it look like such a NICE BAR

There are also thirteen Magic Frames for you to take pictures with. They are many so i’m just gonna show you two:

Fairy kiss for my awesome present! Am gonna use it to death.
When i think back to how life was without social media, things were moving at a completely different pace. Now i know what events are going on, what everyone’s eating, what weekend activities friends are up to, etc. Subsequently, what ALL of us post about our everyday activities influence another person’s actions too.
I am very easilyย influenced :p If i see someone tweet about KFC, my stomach will rumble an hour later and my subconscious will whisper “KFC… KFCCCC…” And i’d be thinking, “Ooh! I REALLY want to eat some KFC!” And i would DRIVE OUT and buy a two-piece set and scoff it by myself regardless that it’s not a proper meal time. I placate myself by thinking there’s a reason it’s called a snack plate.
On another occasion, i read someone posting about getting a massage… Later on in the day, my back muscles started twitching, demanding that i treat them to some TLC.
It was only MUCH later on that i realized how all these actions of mine are results of my brain scanning online facts really quickly and probing me to experience them later on. I thought it was a bit scary but quite interesting too! Imagine how much we’re all influenced by things we don’t remember reading on Twitter/FB/Instagram!
The GOOD thing is, this rings true for healthy habits as well. My stalking of people’s instagrams of healthy eating (lots of colourful pictures of fruits and organic produce) has also brought me to buy more organic food, and i buy lots of types of fruits for Clem and i to snack on now instead of just chocolate and ice cream all the time. *Can i have a big pat on the back please*
Great Eastern Malaysia has realized this infectious behaviour and how it can be a catalyst for change in so much of what we do. Thus the launch of Life-O-Meter — a platform that will help us live great, and live healthier and better lives!
Did you get how seriously serious i seriously am? Seriously. ๐
Life-O-Meterย is a Facebook app that is powered by our LPS habits. LPS basically stands for Like, Post, and Share >
Life-O-Meterย features a new thought-provoking question every week, along with a meter to view what everyone has chosen so far. The topics range from life philosophies and love, to food and holidays. This week, the question is >
LIKEย which answer which relates to you the best! The Life-O-Meterโs needle will show you which side has the majority of votes. As you can see, most people picked Happy-Post-Lucky (which is what i selected too).
I thenย POSTย a creative comment on why i chose that answer.
Which i thenย SHAREย with all my Facebook friends.
I can view what others have been sharing as well.
There are prizes to be won for your LPS efforts!ย RM100 cash prizeย will be given out every week, andย trips to Bali, Kota Kinabalu Park and Island Snorkelingย will be given out for this month. The grand prizes are chosen by YOU.
Ultimately, Life-O-Meter celebrates loving your life, living it to the fullest and having the freedom to choose!
I went to the launch of Life-O-Meter at Paradox Art Cafe last week >
The World Bank defines a high-income nation based on the country’s GNI (Gross National Income), and for a couple of decades, it seems that Malaysia is a strong developing country at par with Singapore and Japan.
That was in the 60’s to the 80’s.
Today Singapore is ranked No. 3 in the world, Japan is at No. 23, and Malaysia… is at No. 57. To better understand what GNI is, watch the vid below. It’s pretty cool, like Sesame Street for adults:
Do you remember all these Vision 2020 drawings we did in school, and all the propaganda we’d see on advertising everywhere? It was devised by Dr. Mahathir Mohamadย around 1991. However, there is still a lot left to do to achieve his vision, and initiatives like theย Economic Transformation Programme and the Government Transformation Programme have sprouted, to turn Malaysia into a high-income nation by 2020.
The Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) consists of individual projects that are developed to cover various key economic sectors/areas such as education, healthcare, wholesale, retail, etc.ย Since ETP started in 2010, it has created projects like the MRT, EduCity in Johor, and the MyProCert Programme (enablingย more accessible and affordable professional certifications). These projects in turn create millions of jobs, attract foreign investors, and increase everyone’s quality of life by year 2020.
Whether we realise it or not, the ETP is, slowly transforming the lives of Malaysians from today till 2020 and will affect what we do, how we live, and ultimately, who we are.ย These projects wonโt only transform the nation, but also help every Malaysian, every individual and every personality, realise their true potential and find their rightful purpose in our growing society.
To know more about various ETP-related projects, check out Citizen 2020 – a fun virtual journey where you make real life decisions and see what the future YOU is in 2020.
There are 10 possible personalities as the result for each gender:
To find out which one you are, a series of real-life scenario questions will determine your path in life. Here are some of the questions i had to answer when i took the virtual journey:
What’s YOUR next step in life??
I felt that i should be shopping in the sundry shop or the pasar komuniti but i do go to the hypermarket instead…
I could only pick three items? I wanted them all! Haha. I also had to choose what ย my typical grocery shopping list consisted of – to analyze whether the things i buy are locally-produced or imported.
There were a lot more questions i’m not including here, so you just have to play it yourself! In the end, i am…
So… do you think that’s me or not? ๐
After getting my personality results, there are a list of facts to educate us to make choices that benefit our country. You don’t have to tell me that, as it is i’d rather support a local label than an international one, and i look out for where my food comes from and try to buy local organic produce.
ETP projects affect our lives in Malaysia more than we know, from theย most basic things like grocery shopping or buying electrical appliances.
