Elegantology Gallery & Restaurant is a creative space that houses a couture gallery featuring exclusive men’s fashion and lifestyle collections created by reputable local designers, alongside a gastronomic haven helmed by celebrity chefs.
This provides a platform for up-and-coming as well as established designers to create a series of limited edition fashion and lifestyle collections; while aspiring chefs get to work with the resident chefs to create unique and innovative gastronomy experiences.
I blogged about the huge fashion show and launch party Elegantology threw when they launched last June!
Even though it was just a few months ago, Elegantology Gallery & Restaurant just held yet another exclusive event last Thursday where there were aperitifs,
a fashion show featuring new collections from 8 designers,
an elegant 5-course dinner,
and lots of socialising with Martell VSOP from beginning till the end!
I helped myself to aperitifs and canapes whilst waiting for the show to start
The place filled up quickly with guests despite it being an early event at 6pm
Fashion designer Beatrice Looi, stylist Jose Kouassi, and i.
Beatrice Looi owns and manages Elegantology, while Martell (as a patron of Elegantology) provides funds to aspiring fashion talents to launch their own fashion line, and consequently nurturing the local creative arts industry.
Martell has always supported the arts – film, music, painting, photography, sculpture, architecture and fashion – ever since it was founded; and continues to collaborate with artists and exhibitions around the world. If you can recall, Martell recognised and promoted young talent in various industries in Malaysia through its Rising Personality Awards a few years ago.

The theme for the night was Gold Elegance, and gold glitter covered the entire runway.
Miss Malaysia/World 2010 winner Nadia Heng emceed the show
These three best-dressed gentlemen were handpicked by Elegantology for best embodying an elegant man, and were each presented with the Elegant Men of the Night award sponsored by Martell.
The elegant men each received a RM200 voucher for Elegantology Gallery and a bottle of Martell VSOP Edition Nuit, which is a redesign of the iconic Martell VSOP bottle with a glow in the dark effect that alters between light and dark depending on the lighting surrounding it. (The limited edition bottle is currently only available in Malaysia.)
The first designer to showcase their work was Venie Tee with her collection called Wunderkammer (Wonder Room)
“Funky and fun Venie revisits several vintage elements and brings them out with a modernized cut to create fun, chic menswear looks. With fabric choices of fine cotton, silk, soft denim, the design element of the “owl” which is the signature of the line will also be seen widely in the collection.
Funky buttons, bear paw buttons, wooden buttons with prints, and engraved buttons are incorporated to project the playfulness of the Wonder Room with a significant amount of floral prints on the cuffs and collars.”

Next was Justin Yap with his collection, Urban Sovereign
“Referencing arctic military versus urban nightlife, the colours in Justin Yap’s new collection are masculine with a lot of black, charcoal, grey, navy and white. The silhouette is sleek and slender with details including blocking of smoke camouflage against solid color fabrics, gold and silver studs and fastening, and textured reptile patterned stretch jacquard. Fabrics used are luxurious Japanese brushed cotton, stretch cotton and cotton satin.”

Hayden Koh‘s collection was entitled The Empire State of Men
“Hayden Koh’s new collection is for the men of tomorrow: ageless and perfect. The main color palette is white and grey with one of the key pieces in the collection being the leather sweater with gold chains.”

Jason Zeck Lee showed next, debuting his clothing collection with a black theme – Fashion B.L.A.C.K.
“For Jason, black is the key to discovery as black becomes clearer with a shine of light and conversely, light becomes brighter when it connects with darkness. Hence, the new collection takes on black to see the shine of light in creating new possibilities for the elegant man.”

Somewhere by Joe Chia is described with a poem submitted by the designer:
“Somewhere,
With abundant hope
Somewhere,
Birthed from belief and inspiration
A place
Where imagination knows no boundaries
A sanctuary known to none but ourselves
You, our soul craves
Somewhere. There.”

Simple & Elegant by Ian Chang
“In character, in manner, in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simplicity. And in simplicity is elegance. The fabrics used in this collection are Italian linen versus Italian corduroy with both simple and colourful designs.”

Debonair Gentlemen by Beatrice Looi
“The Debonair Gentlemen is for the man who is carefree and sophisticated with an acquired individual style. He appreciates the elegant combination of luxurious fabric and meticulously hand-sewn embellishments, embracing the modern male sophistication.”
All the fashion designers with their muses on stage
After the fashion show, we lingered around the aperitif area for a bit before being ushered to a second location for more Martell aperitifs before our sit-down dinner inside Elegantology itself.
Above is the Martell Trunk, the largest and most luxurious mobile trunk-case ever produced in collaboration with French bespoke luxury luggage designer Pinel & Pinel. It’s produced on demand only and made a special stop at Elegantology on its world tour.
You really should check the place out… it’s so grand from so many angles!
Elegantology displays a wide range of exclusive men’s fashion and lifestyle products. Every item is created by reputable local designers and pieces are tailored in limited numbers for the most sophisticated of tastes, allowing the Elegantology man to rise above with style.
Despite being targeted at men, i see some great accessories i could pull off for myself like these bow ties and sunnies! Even some of the shirts i spotted in the store can contribute to a funky shirtdress ensemble for myself with the right belt and shoes!
For those who are unsure of their sartorial choices, Elegantology provides a team of personal stylists (aka Elegantologists) at the gallery. These Elegantologists are always on hand to style you up or find you exactly what you need – whether it’s for a special occasion or a complete wardrobe overhaul.
The menu at Elegantology doesn’t concentrate on a specific cuisine, though a lot of local Asian flavours are incorporated into dishes in creative combinations with other surprising ingredients.
In addition to their exciting dishes, the two Resident Chefs, Sherson Lian and Johnny Fua, change the menu every four weeks to ensure new dining experiences for frequent customers. They also regularly collaborate with rising guest chefs and push them to explore new culinary trends.
It’s a unique concept that the fashion gallery is combined with the restaurant, so guests can bask in a unique setting that allows them to dine amidst limited edition fashion apparel and accessories.
Each table within the restaurant was beautifully set with individual name cards so we all knew where we’d sit.
You would have seen many familiar TV and radio presenters gracing the dinner that day – like Will Quah, Peter Davis, Hansen Lee, Steve Yap, Lawrence Wong, Frederick Lee and Singaporean supermodel Charmaine Harn.
Me, Justin and Hansen.
I sat with NewMan mag’s Managing Editor Eugene and Publisher Rozita
Taking inspiration from the night’s theme Gold Elegance, Elegantology chefs Sherson and Johnny infused the 5-course menu that night with golden touches…
Pencil Asparagus Wrapped in Air-Dried Beef, with Ulam Raja Pear-Infused Kim Chee, and Balsamic Pearls
Foie Gras in Yukon Potato & Naganegi Hearty Soup, Scented Spray and Wilted Spinach
The above was one of my favourite dishes, the foie gras was beautifully pan-fried and went great with the soup.
Passion Fruit Sorbet
Chargrilled Master Kobe MB10+, Morrel Beef Jus Truffle Potato, and Arugula with Shoyu No.10 Dressing
I’m so glad i chose to have the kobe, it was cooked perfectly medium rare and was incredibly juicy and tender!
Dessert was Maple Syrup and Walnut Jaconde with Ginger Purple Potato Mousse, which i unfortunately missed cos i ran around talking to so many people..!
Chef Johnny Fua being hounded by media during dinner
Zlwin and Nicholas.
Zlwin is a magician/mentalist and i asked him to show me a trick i haven’t yet seen, so he turned one of my RM1 notes into an RM50! I’d like him to do that to all my RM1 notes please…
Do stop by Elegantology to check out its store, bar and restaurant. Essentially, it’s a creative space in celebration of fashion, gastronomy and mixology which is very different from any other store in KL right now!
