Modeling for The Met @ HAIRLAH 2013

Comments (2) Fashion

I’ve been doing my hair regularly at The Met for the past 2-3 years and was pretty chuffed when they asked me to model for them at the recent HAIRlah 2013 – the first large-scale professional hair industry trade event. Well i’m not really a model, cos i don’t have the height for it, but i pull off short hair so… i think they had no choice haha!!!

My superstylist Alex and i on the runway.
I wore a metal mesh suit by fashion designer and sculptor Chetan Veena.

I couldn’t figure out how they made this hairstyle so freaking high till i asked around and was pointed to these black sponge thingies >

There’s a lot of waiting around at fashion shows… our call time was 1:30pm and the hair and make up team had roughly 6 hours to spruce everyone up. I brought my laptop so i could work while waiting, why waste time!?

Thanks Mabel Maegen for the gorgeous make up using Shu Uemura colours!

In the middle of her working, i asked for her name then told her mine.
She said, “I know who you are! I am so nervous to do make up for you…”
I was like, “Whyyyyyy -_-”

All the models representing The Met wore pieces designed by 4 young finalists for the Samsung Innovation – Young Designer Style Awards 2013 @ MODA.

From left to right:
Chetan Veena (from India) – the metal collection;
(Winner of the aforementioned award) Ava Abdollahi (from Iran)  – the black tape collection;
Sherly Febriani Julianto (from Indonesia) – the asymmetrical pale silvery/lavender print collection.

Not pictured is fourth designer Phuna Boon who didn’t manage to make it that day. Her piece used was a black and silver tunic with belting details.

During the show, i walked down the runway with one hairstyle before Alex proceeded to style it up in another way, so i returned with a second look! In actuality there are so many ways i can style what he created for me… I haven’t even tried them all yet. Sometimes i wake up in the morning and one side is all standing up, but in a cool way that i’d just leave it looking like that all day. I love short hair!
