It’s Always Like That.

When you think you’re going to have a rocking night out and anticipation swings high, it ends up being one of the dreariest nights i can remember all year.

It’s not the party. I think it’s just me.

I think it was first obvious from the lack of enthusiasm i had when a rave came round a couple of years back. The thought of dancing for hours, huge crowd and thumping beats didn’t do it for me anymore. I became very half-half about it.

Half of me wanted to go cos i wanted to be there, where everyone was, what if i missed out? What if they had heaps of fun and i regretted not going?

The other half was going, “Meh… been there, done that, interviewed the DJ, no energy already…”

My music taste shifted accordingly during that phase. From listening to progressive, hard and vocal house 90% of my free time, it dropped to 70%.
Then 30%.
Now prollie 5%.
(For POB, it’s still 99.9%. There was a rare 0.1% occasion he listened to oldies ‘for a break’ :xsilly: Sorry if i memalukan you here.)

And same with places i went to party. I slowly took more to going to bars rather than clubs, so i wouldn’t have to shout when attempting conversation. Attempts were perfectly fine when intoxicated, resulting in ‘hmm what did we talk about’ moments :xsurprised: and a sore throat.

No doubt, i can still do the club thing if i’m in the mood, but i’m getting so fussy these days i think my girls don’t want to ask me out anymore >.<

Dhanya: Let’s go to ——–!
Me: No… it’ll be crowded and someone’s gonna burn me with a cigarette i swear. It’s okay, you guys go ahead.

The next week.

Dhanya: Here’s the plan, we go —-, then we go —–!

Me: First one okay, second one no go. It’s hot and the crowd there… mmf…

Lucky for me she’s damn patient and layans me.

I’m not saying the other clubs are beyond acceptable, it’s just that my priorities for a clubbing experience have changed as i grew older.

Five years back it used to be:
1. Must be happening, have lots of ppl to meet and party with
2. Mustn’t be too expensive
3. Must be dance or R&B
4. Must…

You know what, i stopped for damn 9 long at No. 4 cos i can’t think of any more.
Back then, as long as i was with a bunch of friends with heaps of alcohol and music, that was all we needed.

Now every time i choose somewhere to go, i weigh out:
1. Venue – nice deco? Air con? Non-smoking or smoking?
2. Convenient parking/jockey
3. Not too crowded with people from all corners of the state
4. Yummy drinks
5. Good bar service – drinks don’t take too long to come
6. (Depending on mood) – Music

What contributed to the blah night i had on Friday was the lack of everything i stated above (oh except No. 6. Music was fab. I loved it).

PikachuApril and i took ages finding a parking space cos all the lots were full, but we were still chirpy as we walked up the sidewalk towards the entrance.
“We’re going to arrive at the entrance, and people are going to see i’m rocking it up with ex-editor of Juice, yeah!” i teased her.
“Whatttt”

Free flow was over at the VIP upstairs (damn, so fast..! It wasn’t even 11 yet!) so i just mingled and tried catching up with people.
I stopped when my throat started hurting from repeating myself.

Me: How many have you had?
RR: Over there!
Me: What?
RR: … Yeah!
Me: -_- You have no idea what i said, did you!
RR: Huh?
Me: NEVER MIND.
RR: … *takes time to guess and lipread*… Oh!
Me: *flaps arms at him* It’s okay, never mind!!!

Can die.

Communication breakdown can die.

Thank God for the music (yay Gabe!)… i’m the kind of person who can dance without the need for alcohol and it perked me up. It was super hot though, and we moved around the table trying to find a cooling spot.

(okay i’m going to sound damn whiny here below)

It was damn hot, it was so crowded where we sat, it was so loud i couldn’t talk properly to people without someone getting fed up, and i was too sober to push all that out of my mind.
The last straw was when Amanda came to say hi to me and she almost burnt me in the face with her ciggie. It wasn’t her fault though, someone pushed her from behind because it was so crowded.
The only reason it missed my eye was due to my superb reflexes at leaning back the moment i saw it coming.

I tell you, else i’ll be one-eyed fairy.

I lost it after that.

I tried getting out of the table area, and couldn’t cos friends were blocking all the ways out and they couldn’t move.

I lost it further and ended up stepping on the couch in my heels, darting over it, jumping down neatly in a huff and walked around by myself.

Oh and it didn’t end there… someone was dancing like crazy and stomped on me.
“Oh, sorry!”
“… my new shoe… :xbummed: … (only then).. oww… :xsad: :xbitter:

Bumped into JP, Jim and IceCalvin on the side, and was nice talking to them where it was *slightly* quieter.
Took 30 minutes to get a drink -_-
Which came in a plastic cup -_-
I pay 20-something bucks for a drink and it comes in a plastic cup?
Might as well go to 7-Eleven okay.

I calmed down after chilling and talking more.

RowdyRudy found me, “Where have you been?! I’ve been looking for you, i thought you left!”
“No… i’ve been right here, just chilling. :xhappy:

It was just me, everyone else had a good time i think. Oh except for DivaAdrian, but that’s to be expected :xlaughing:

Ironic thing was, because i thought i’s gonna party hard that night, i didn’t drive out and planned to follow my brother back home.

Ended up i drove two drunkards home. :xwhatevah:

We ate nasi kandar we bungkus-ed, laughed and passed out.

I had fun with them and would rather drive them back, but i thought *i’d* be the one driven back instead! D’you know what i mean? THOSE nights that you anticipate and then tak jadi.

Bugger.

The night started off shit for me. Was damn pist off when i had to bloody buy a damn Tuborg beer for Rm25. It got better when Dj Gabriel started spinning and drinks automatically landed on my hand afterwards hehe. Then i got drunk. You knew that. ๐Ÿ˜›

You know things are shifting when conversations become a priority — but it gets so much better then! Service improves as does the company and the venues. Twenty ringgit for paper-cup value is a shocker, Joyce!
