Car-Shopping

Comments (29) Shopping

After much procrastination, i’ve been car-shopping with QueenKanch accompanying me.
I already kinda know what i want after sitting in SpankyCammy’s new black Myvi SE.
Previous personal thoughts on the Myvi was that it’s really ugly.
>.<

I’m just being a typical girl la.

I want the car to look good.
I want a nice colour.
I want it to accelerate quickly cos i’m always rushing.
I want it to be able to speed over bumps without too much braking.
I want good handling for corners so i don’t have to slow down too much. >.<
I want it less than 60k.

When i took notice of SpankyCammy’s car (plus it must’ve helped she’s such a happy driver, playing happy songs and singing to herself as she dropped me off!) i really liked how the back of the car looked, plus, it’s around my price range.

myvi se

Assuming i’m taking the metallic one, it’s 52k, and preferring to pay everything off as fast as possible, i’m putting down 20% down-payment.
Pondering on how many years loan i would rather take, if it were a 6-year loan, i’d have to pay RM631 a month; if 3-year loan, close to RM1,300 a month.
After discussion, i told Kanch i’d rather take a 3-year loan, get the payment over with less interest rates applicable.

Kanch: Yeah, better la, you have commitment and stick to it.
Me: True, else i’ll be spending the money on shopping, holidays or whatever rubbish anyway.
Kanch: Eh, with the down payment you’re putting, why haven’t you thought of the Honda City?

I replied that i really don’t need an expensive car… i mean, yeah, it’d be damn nice to glamour in that (okay i don’t think the Honda City equals glamour >.<) or better yet, a BMW 1-Series :xsilly:
But rationally speaking… a car is a liability and i’d rather buy a cheaper car so i can focus on other investments.

Damn.
Me, talking about investments?
Joyce having to grow up >.<

So i went to a Perodua dealer in Bangsar, which was quite dodgy.
Construction workers across the street whistled at Kanch and i as we hurriedly popped into the showroom.
In the showroom, one of the salesmen was practically grinning at our chests.
-_-

So we went to another dealer today (in PJ), where the saleswoman barely layaned us even though we expressed confirmation we wanted to buy it as long as she could give us a better deal than the Bangsar one.

We walked out because she was so unenthusiastic and i didn’t feel like buying from her anymore.

Me: What the fuck wei. Damn tak layan…
Kanch: Maybe cos she thinks we look like kids and are not serious about buying it.

I looked down at my colourful Topshop singlet and shorts.
So what? Ish…
Remember the saying ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’?

 :xwhatevah:

Later on we spotted a Peugeot 206 on the road and i thought it was pretty darn good-looking too.

206

So i Googled it to check out specs and reviews and bumped into Paul Tan’s site.
Eh… might as well bug the expert who writes the most-read automobile blog in Malaysia :xsilly:

MSN-ed the fellow, apologising beforehand cos i know what it feels like to have people contacting me like i’m the yellow pages or a clubbing directory.

*Fairy* says:
they put online that the waiting period for 207 is 4 months, 206 also long ar?
you think it’s not worth it?
Paul Tan says:
cheapest nice european hatch u can find
but inside damn cramped la

*Fairy* says:
well i’m not big…
and most cars usually make me feel like a midget
Paul Tan says:
lol, 206 is nice. may feel underpowered but handling is nice

*Fairy* says:
underpowered? damn. i like rushing >.<
Paul Tan says:
206 1.4 only… really underpowered la
must drive smoothly
if you’re in a rush you’ll get even more irritated
its not for people who drive like that
gets annoying

*Fairy* says:
so you think myvi se better?
Paul Tan says:
go for normal myvi

*Fairy* says::
whyyyy
i hate how it looks >.<
Paul Tan says:
add your own bodykit la, myvi se overpriced la for that shit piece of kit

*Fairy* says:
i’d rather pay a bit more for leather seats >.< such a girl i know
Paul Tan says:
the interior leather also is just some cheapo crap

*Fairy* says:
aiyo…
Paul Tan says:
if u sendiri do all better

*Fairy* says:
can cry wei. i so noob at this
can’t i just be lazy and buy the SE…
Paul Tan says:
if u want:
jus saying theres a better way
lol

*Fairy* says:
appreciate thanks
no la, knowing me and how busy i am, i just wanna drive it and not spend time at workshop all
Paul Tan says:
got new one coming out soon
http://paultan.org/archives/2008/05/25/perodua-myvi-facelift-coming-soon/

*Fairy* says:
oh cool, you just wrote this!
Paul Tan says:
yeah

*Fairy* says:
ok one last question! acceleration between se myvi and peugeot 206…
Paul Tan says:
myvi alot better

*Fairy* says:
whoa. somemore cheaper. ok la done.
Paul Tan says:
lol

So i guess i’m getting that.
Now the important question is… what corour?
 :xlaughing:

Oh first i have to go renew my license, it just expired yesterday
 :xwhatevah: Mah fan-ness wei.

But still a bit gatal… wanna go test drive the 206 first.
The 207’s nice too… >.<

Wow.

A whole blog post about… cars.

Hihi .. Myvi is absolutely gorgeous to drive. Very smooth handling and it actually looks pretty decent inside and out. You could definitely change the seats for a fraction of what the newer model would cost!!

    G’d luck! πŸ˜‰

  2. BikerVoodoo says:

TEST DRIVE … the 206. Highly recommended. It’s not UNDERpowered IMHO.

  3. S says:

the 206 is not underpowered at all! in fact anyone who has driven my car is suprised at how powerful it is. it flies! smooth too like a hot knife through butter.

if you wanna save a bit of money go for the 206 bestari instead of the peugeot. the engine and things are exactly the same except for the interior of the car which parts are malaysian made.

  4. droll says:

i disagree. 206 is underpowered. try the MyVi. it is a lot more spiffy in that department.

plus, the 206 is now rebadged by naza.

  5. sutheshkumar says:

    joyce, Gen2 CPS xmau r?
tht car has almost everything u can get in a vios/city for a cheper price, keep aside the auto fold side mirror lar.
for the myvi, i think better wait for the facelift. myabe will have 1.5. the daihatsu version has tht engine and the 1.3 can be consuming high on fuel too, as wat my friends who onws tht said.
otherwise, look at suzuki swift. cute wei.
    ^_______^

it has almost everything u wanted and a Vios and City has for a cheaper price, keepin the auto fold side mirror aside lar.
for myvi, better wait for the facelift. cud come with the 1.5 engine, as the Daihatsu version has it dy and the 1.3 can be consuming high on fuel too, as said frm friends who owns them lar.
otherwise, look at suzuki swift. damn cute and worth everything @ RM 69k.
206 Bestari? old engine wei. go to Naza for a 1.6 Peugeot badged one.

Oh, get the white, get the white! My 2nd choice would be the red, it’s brilliant red and yet it doesnt blind you. Happy colour-car shopping πŸ™‚

  10. huei says:

alot of ppl r gona hate me for this haha

    myvi is like…SOOoooOoo boring..it’s everywhere..so common..

get somethign nicer..since u already have the budget for 1.3k a mth..just maybe get a more expensive car n pay for a little longer…

anyways..just my thoughts. others dun come bashing me cos i dun like myvi haha

  11. Darren says:

I’ve sat in my friend’s 206 and it’s really underpower. Myvi does have better acceleration, fuel efficiency, cheaper and spacious too for a tall guy like me.

  12. th_c says:

Red! Don’t buy black, very hot.

  13. Grace tan says:

that’s really useful piece of information, cause i’m considering myvi myself.. thanks!

  14. Sumuk says:

Buy city better. idsi is still reasonable. i got myself 1, didnt regret at all. but if i cancel the city last time, myvi is definitely my next choice lah haha.. consider black, silver or white only la.. white very nice with you.

  15. here is a comment from a person who has both 206 (but the cabriolet one lah) and also a myvi in the house. i love myvi much2 better because of the handling and the speed, imagine that i came back from penang to pj in 2 and half hours. walau weii. hehe. drove my sister 206cc back from malacca.. pickup tarak. it is a nice car, a lil rough compared to the myvi. i love my myvi where the petrol consumption and maintenance is low. go for myvi! =)

  16. thegeekinpink says:

I own a myvi and my brother used to own a honda city before he blew it up. honda city is so fuel-efficient it’s crazy. Myvi is fuel-efficient too and the white is very nice.

I like both cars but if you can hike up your budget a bit, honda city is a gorgeous buy.

  17. S says:

in terms of fuel consumption, the naza 206 can go up to almost 650 to 700 in a full tank (inclusive of the reserve). no way myvi can beat that.

my housemate has a myvi so i’ve driven one quite a bit too and though it can fly too it doesnt feel as sturdy as the 206. i mean, you wouldnt want a car that feels like its literally off the ground when you’re speeding would you.

the 206 is a rally car so thats why some would feel its a little rough i guess.

  18. lynndhia says:

    buy anything BUT a proton

don’t make the same mistake i made πŸ™
should’ve spent a few hundred bucks more every month for the city, less headache and maintenance issues

  19. kanch says:

see see see i told you city super economical!! its damn value wan…haha the china woman in me would get it for that reason

  20. emmy says:

honey, 206 might not accelerate better but it warms up fast and Myvi wont be able to beat 206 racing on highway. Continental car is like this one.

What for want pickup pickup or accelerate? Want to look like ah bengs & ah liens accelerating at traffic light while its red kah ? so that when it turns green at the 1st second, u hit on gas and bang on a bike which runs red light? Safety first ok.

Furthermore Myvi is as thick as milo tin. You want to risk urself driving in milo tin? And guarantee, give it 1 year and you’ll be hearing lots of sounds inside your car. Things and parts getting loose. After you finish paying ur 3 years loan, you can get ready to scrape it lar. Myvi will have you always visiting the workshop. My dad owns a workshop, I know what I’m talking about.

Most importantly, Joyce Wong doesnt match Myvi. Myvi is so ugly…like a fat pc of metal.

  21. supamamia says:

    Yay for perodua myvi.
It’s economical and easy to park around the city.
And better 2nd hand value too (so you don’t wait long to sell it off when u want to upgrade)
If it’s within your budget just grab it saves your face + cab fare around and asking ppl to fetch you here and there bwahaha!
Pay cash lor.. sure your beemer lover daddy can help!
Just don’t burden yourself for style!

  22. arth says:

tiba-tiba so many males leave comments

  23. CraSH says:

watch out for fuel economy and resale value because gas prices will increase soon….
as for investment, it is better to take the longer loan. that way, time value for money is lower. you can always accelerate your principal payments whenever you feel like it. if not, save half the amount in a bank account that you have no ATM card.. haha.. that way, you wont be able to withdraw it easily.
for a color, i say go for silver metalic.. doesnt look dirty easy and minor scratch marks doesnt stand out.
anyway, good luck and have fun shopping.

  24. 206 owner female driver says:

Joyce, GO for 206 .. damn fast wei.. im driving one now… fuel cheaper… it looks more super elegant
its cramp …. it meant for u and the other half..
others they can get their own ride…. bottom line .. MYVI is thin and super cheapo look interior..

  25. Lyn says:

I drive the 206 and I personally think it’s awesome. It’s not THAT underpowered, and if you drive it by yourself it’s pretty fast once it speeds up. Minyak consumption is ok too =D

  26. mello says:

WHIIIITEEEE !. =D please ?. white cars are EFFking sexxxxyyy , can !?. myvi’s are cool wei . and hell yeah i have a thing for white cars . btw , who treats you like a clubbing directory ???. quite the weird right . i mean , uhhmm . . there are like , damn lotta clubs – sendiri go hunting la . *rolls eyes*

  27. Paul Tan says:

I still recommend the 206. Drive slower, safer, heh.

  28. JoyceTheFairy says:

Thanks for all the comments, some were helpful, some were not -_- but i read them all πŸ˜€

  29. Jayelle says:

get the pearly white one, Joyce!!

That’s the one I have! hahaha, if you don’t want to be colour buddies with me, get the red one. I wanted the maroon one but they stopped that colour already.

The moment I saw the glitter specks on the white paint in the sunlight outside the showroom, I was sold! It was all “I want i want i want”. And you can never stop staring at the car lovingly coz of the shimmering under your porch light.
