Malaysian Dreamgirl Finals

I arrived at 1 Utama in time for the finalists’ first appearance, but we were really bored and hungry so RowdyRudy and i fled to Chilli’s to have some grub and tequila shots before heading back down.

Just in time for the winner to be called (thanks to Denise for alerting me :xhappy: )

Malaysian Dreamgirl FinalsMalaysian Dreamgirl Finals
Adeline, Hanis, Cindy and Elaine

Winner of the first Malaysian Dreamgirl was to walk away with
– a Nissan Latio 1.8Ti (A)
– RM10,000 preloaded AmBank NexG PrePaid MasterCard
– RM3,000 Wella Professionals hamper
– RM1,000 worth of Escada fragrances
– RM1,000 worth of Bebe apparel (damn)
– RM500 worth in Nose footwear
– featured in NewMan cover spread

That’s quite a lot man. Especially the car..!

Everytime Hanis came walking out, the cheers were distinctively louder.
“Wow, they really like her, huh?” said Rudy
“Yeah!”

Malaysian Dreamgirl Finals
KennySia, me, RowdyRudy

When Elaine Daly (who emceed) asked who’s supporting Cindy, there weren’t many cheers.
She joked, “Where’s Cindy’s family?”
When she asked who’s supporting Adeline, there weren’t many cheers as well.
When she asked who’s supporting Hanis, you guessed that right, the cheers just went crazy.

The third runner up was to be announced first.

And Hanis’ name got called.

You could feel the shock of the crowd as people went, “Huh? What? Yay! Hanis’ name! Eh, no la, that was third runner up! OMG. HANIS didn’t win!”

“Oh no, look at her… she so thought she’s gonna win…”
“Well, yeah… everyone wanted her to win…”

But i must say, she’s really brave for not crying.
I think if it were me, i’d have bawled like hai on the stage already.

As Hanis got her picture taken for 3rd runner up, the crowd clapped and her supporters still cheered her on, which was really sweet.

Adeline, won 2nd runner up.
And Cindy, won Malaysian Dreamgirl.

You can tell by the way i’m typing i’m so not semangat already right.
-_-

So, behind-the-scenes news (this was told to me by someone involved in the show) was that because this was purely an SMS-voting competition, Cindy’s family threw down 15k worth in votes.

When you think of it, 15k is pretty damn value for a car, RM10k cash back in return, all those other prizes, and buying your daughter’s happiness for her to win the competition.

Another little bird told me that in the week that Ringo was up against Cindy to be voted out, Ringo’s mom and bro SMSed RM4,000 worth… and Ringo STILL lost.

Can you imagine how much money Cindy’s family has been chucking in then?

Man, the Malaysian Dreamgirl show sure made a lot of money from this system.

I feel sorry for Hanis but i thought she’s really brave for putting up a smile (probably till she reached backstage).

After the announcement, i was like, “BAH. Let’s go,” and we went to have some merlot at Cribs.

We were talking about it for a while and i was like, “Eh! We should get her number and send her an sms to make her feel better!”
So i got her number from KennySia and we smsed – “KinkyBlueFairy and Rudy from Hitz.fm would like to say we totally support you and what a travesty the outcome was. Don’t cry k, you’ll go far girl. Kisses.”

What i think is, look at it this way – you’re 17, you got on a national reality TV show, you won some money, managed to garner a huge following, you have so many supporters and hey, so what, you didn’t win.
But this is just the beginning for you. :xwinky:

holy beegasus! that person’s family thrown in rm15k worth of SMSes??? wahh..if like that, who wouldnt win o_O” i think judges should pay a bigger role on the finale. like 50% based on judges’ decision… besides, they know best who is the fittest for the title.

im not happy with the result =( why like that wannn???

  2. FeR says:

I was looking around for the result – not a lot (or non so far I’ve seen) of ppl wrote abt it.
When I read your post, I felt something was not right because you didn’t seem kan chiong to mention the winner…and true enough.
    Ugh.
    SMS voting mah…
    Ugh.

  3. carmen says:

    I can’t believe Hanis lost!!!! =(

The pure sms voting system is so unfair. Plus Cindy doesn’t even take okay pics, what more nice ones wei! =(

    Urghhhh!

  4. zOee says:

πŸ™ I’m so so so dissapointed with this show! Boo!!

I hve the exact same reaction as you when the result was announced.. “Let’s GO!! Damnit!”

  5. huei says:

this show sux! poor hanis, i almost cried for her…

adeline nearly tripped on stage..did u see?

god..cindy is so undeserving, just buy her the damn car! her dad’s filthy rich! i bet he donated more lah, sad! damn sad…

i heard boos when they announced cindy was the winner…

  6. charis says:

ha ha, usually, an online show would update the results on their website ASAP, right? They too, tak semangat…till now, the website has still not announced the winner…lol! I doubt if they’d put up an episode of the Grand Finale. Still, kudos to them for making a pot of gold.

  7. Celine says:

So unexpected! πŸ™ And Damn! RM15K is a lot money wei. That’s like my one year of school fee. But at least she got the car. But still!

I think that it would be fair that they let the judges shortlist the candidates instead of using votes. I like how Tyra Banks select her top models. That’s more professional!

  8. Joe says:

I hate this kind of “my friend said” shite. I really hope your source was correct in the RM15K spent, because some readers are already taking it as the gospel truth.

But funny thing is, no one hates on Ringo for trying to do the same thing with RM4K, which is just as sleazy, if on a differing dollar amount.

  9. Sharon says:

Its very stupid for the ppl at MDG to have a contest organized this way, totally vote based. I can bet you, the next MDG (if theres one, *Rolls eyes*) is gonna lose out on a lot of viewership based on people’s “takpuashatiness” in this version of MDG. I, for one, wont be bothered to watch anymore. Stupid MDG. Got judges just for show, glamour only.

  10. jacqueline says:

so sad so sad so sad
They should let the judges pick the winner in the finals instead of just purely based on sms voting. Then, the world would be a happier place where our 1st Msian Dreamgirl is a sweet girl called Hanis and not a loud, naggy aunty called Cindy. Even her name sucks. Rich ppl who use their $$$ like this should go bankrupt. Such a waste. Go help the poor la with the $$$, don’t use it to make ur undeserving daughter a ‘dreamgirl’.

Then again, I bet after this Hanis will get a lot of contracts/endorsements stuff going for her whereas Cindy will just be forgotten, HA HA HA.

  11. ShaolinTiger says:

    Hanis Macam best..

They will come out with an episode tomorrow (Thursday) so was not supposed to mention the winner til after that πŸ˜‰

But then there’s no embargo so people can do what they like.

  12. so-p says:

    how disappointing.
nice girls finish last, but at least they have more class =)

  13. […] Joyce hinted some, okay, suggested, the methods Ringo and Cindy employed to raise their chances of winning Malaysian DreamGirl. […]

  14. Petrina says:

YERRR! Cindy was the one i really didn’t want to win!

Sometimes, the voting system is really cock la. So tak puas!

  15. Sheryl says:

    Everyone is really disappointed πŸ™

Hanis look so gorgeous in the red dress especially~

Some designer dresses are really elegant and nice!

    didn’t see you there also?

  16. Idan says:

i wanted to go! but, i didnt got the chance! too lazy! my friend suppose to pick me up but they didnt turn up! πŸ™ well, i went to my friend place to make cupcakes instead. =/ btw, i thought so Hanis wont win. =/

  17. kreazi says:

OMG.. I really hate this. Thank goodness I decided against going yesterday or I would have gone berserk! Hanis the Manis ought to win!!! Why lar this whole damn thing is based on sms votes solely? If that’s the case, any ugly, undeserving person could be the Malaysian Dream Girl as long as they got a big fat pocket!

  18. Grace Yong says:

Oh well, me and my group of frens voted for cindy too…spent 1k on the sms. Im Hanis will be a sucessful model as well..:) Cheer up ppl!

  19. Esther N says:

    hey…love your blog!
and eah…I’m so freakin’ disappointed with the result..
    daaayyymmmmnnn!!

  20. folle says:

oh dear, hanis din win.. disappointed! though cindy has her own supporters, but hanis has more. she would go far in this field. looking forward to c her more!

  21. myst88 says:

wow that much to win a contest.. yep hanis was the best of the lot.. i think so she is the second runner up rite.. ?

  22. julia says:

OMG I CANT BELIEVE CINDY WON! she completely doesn’t deserve it lah she models like shit. hope she never ever gets a client. ROAR.

  23. Gab says:

Congrates to Cindy =)…everyone hates her but not me..I like her confidence. even everyone seems to curse her or anything bad..deep down.. She can improve more..and I think she is smart.. and strong..Can u imagine..put yourself in her place..lots of people called u with bad words, curse u, accused u, and even talk bad abt ur family…can u bear it? She worked hard too..trying to learn and experience something…come on, Give her a chance..she is the winner. its over now..

Hanis? Poor her, I bet she thought she going to win..she is such a baby.. I don’t like her attitude (not everyone likes her ok..but I guess she has lots of fans)..she is so Manja..but then she can go far too, and she is gettin better..juz be matured.
    -no 0ffence-

but I like Eyna more =D she juz got it..Charisma.

    Cheers~

  24. lin says:

I want Hanis to win too but argh, when i logged onto facebook yesteday (am not in m’sia), someone mentioned cindy won. totally ruin my mood. cindy is yes pretty but she doesn’t have the model look (i am not even taking account of her bitchiness here). She mentioned she just wanna be in the entertainment industry. So once she reached top3, her daddy should have let others who are more deserving to win. Argh, what a disappointment! Am embarass to say that’s our malaysian dreamgirl!

  25. Shiau Lee says:

Is really nice of u and Rudy sent the sms to HAnis…. great job guys… i also think she deserves so much better than Cindy…

  26. Lee says:

    Haiya….why all about Hanis?
If Cindy didn’t win meaning that Adeline will win cause she is 1st runner up, Hanis is only third.
I wonder why Hanis has so many fans and still get third..lazy to vote i guess.
It should have been Adeline if it weren’t Cindy.

  27. Desmond says:

Cindy don’t have supporters. Her only supporter are families and relatives.

  28. joycezhi says:

this is pretty surprising to me..coz i tot even if Hanis din win..she’ll probably be second place..but for Adeline to be on top of her is a TOTAL shock to me..sorry..no offense..but she cant even speak proper english!! i wonder how much her family family donated to the show..

  29. SamanthaPoh says:

    joyce

honestly? to put in 15k and to have won back a car is a good deal. tho it’s kind of unfair wouldn’t it be true to say that who has the most money to send sms votes will win?

whatever it is, cindy’s family has got great strategy. something i really really admire. something like business u know? a good trade.

  30. Rachy says:

It’s expected to have the voting system thingy as they need to dig up $$ to cover the cost of production. There’s always win or lose in a game. Maybe Hanis don’t win but i bet she gained loads of support and connections for her future. Kudos to those that made MDG possible!

  31. Ben says:

It is not the voting system that is imperfect. Hanis have many supporters but how many of you all are willing to vote. Most of the people just support by words while hoping to see their desired result. Since there are so many viewers and so many supporters 15k should be easy to top.

  32. Simon Seow says:

Yupe, it’s just the beginning for Hanis. She still have a long way to walk. She still got 1 year modeling contract so it’s not too bad.

That’s why la only saw you both at the end. Who’s the Tequila man now? LOL.

  33. wretch says:

fairy have you seen this before? =d

    thought you might like it

  34. eunice says:

    me damn disappointed πŸ™
it shouldn’t be purely based on sms votes!!!

  35. Ringo says:

Joyce, i don’t know who told you that but it is most definitely not true. And i don’t have a brother.

  36. kim says:

bitter gourds choke on their bile, stumble over their aspersions and drown in their own ugliness.

it’s about willingness to spend as much as it is about wealth.

  37. Min says:

MDG producers probably think they’re so smart making all that money from staging a contest based purely on SMS votes. Well it’ll work for this year but people will boycott it the next time (I Hope!). C’mon la, you want to support a contest that allows any grandma-looking amateur to win the title of a Malaysian Dreamgirl? People from other countries will think Malaysians got no taste. Aiya..malu lah!

To GAB, Cindy brought all that bitchin onto herself. She didn’t have to carry herself perfectly, she just needed to stop bitching about others so much. If you’re pretty and catwalk well those sins are easily forgivable but trouble is, if beauty was a caste, Cindy is lower-middle class, and I’m being truly charitable and kind here.

    Cheers!

  38. Ediη₯ž says:

    To be fair to Cindy

    this is a SMS votes…

For those who condemn her win simply didnt vote for HANIS!

They just talk and talk and talk about HANIS but never sms a cent to support HANIS!

    So why boooooooooh CINDY!

Go F yourself la! If wanna HANIS to win vote her kwo kow la!

  39. sarah says:

the results of MDG very dissapointing =( Wanted Hanis to win..but too bad for her la. It’s okay..she doesn’t have to win to become an MDG. I’m sure she can go far in the future =)

  40. JoyceTheFairy says:

ringo: aiyo i’m rushing i cannot answer you now, i sms you who told me then you go scold the culprit ha ha. xxx

  41. cooknengr says:

Competition is just a smoke screen, the cellphone carriers are the one making the bank.

  42. gabby says:

I mean joyce you and kenny sia together izit?

  43. sarah says:

Edi: gawd who are you to say that the ppl who supports Hanis didn’t vote for her. I’m her supporter and I did vote for her. I know alot of ppl did. But we’re not as rich as Cindy’s father who coughed out 15k only mar! Most of us are just students la!

So before you say something stupid, think first alrite?

  44. EugeneLee says:

you’re really sweet, the way you gv out ur heart to her was the best prize someone can get …

I’m a faithful reader, jobless so update more… goyang kaki waiting to read more posts =P

  45. anonymous says:

i m not tryin to be asshole here, but isnt

    1st runner up = 2nd place
    2nd runner up = 3rd place?!

    *shrugs*

  46. pinksterz says:

just look at the sms vote winner results. the top voter for every week is the same person. or should i add in “almost” the same person!

heck, even in the lucky voter also got the surname “tey” lah.

  47. tom says:

oh wells.. i just lost interest from episode 5 onwards..

no big deal.. and just doesn’t really capture my eagerness to view…

  48. Ally Fan says:

“So, behind-the-scenes news (this was told to me by someone involved in the show) was that because this was purely an SMS-voting competition, Cindy’s family threw down 15k worth in votes.”

This is not exactly inside info…it was mentioned in last week’s epi…

  49. JoyceTheFairy says:

Joe: well the commenter above this one said it was aired.

Ally Fan: i didn’t bother watching the show beyond eps 4.

so-p: i liked your comment ha ha

sheryl: it was really boring. i only stood there in the beginning and end.

idan: my bad… i owe you, you know what i mean πŸ™‚

samanthapoh: i thought of that too, that it’s a good business move. true what, you put in 30k worth of money into something, you get 4 times back in return. it’s only because it wasn’t a fair system based on sms votes. if you think of american idol, it would take millions to push someone to win that! malaysia just isn’t ready for a show based on sms votes.

gabby: do we look* like we have chemistry *raises eyebrow* -_-

anon: yes you ARE right. i wrote that cos that was what was said on stage. weird right.
