So there are four competitions Digi is holding for their Fu-Yoh Street Blast.
A futsal + basketball tournament, a fashion design competition and a b-boy dance contest.
Among the four, I think I can only relate to the fashion one :p

What happens when you see a contest that stirs your interest?
Do you see what you have to do to join first?
Do you see what the qualifications are first?

No.

What I do is I always check out what the prizes are first, to see whether joining it in the first place will be worth my time.

C’mon. It’s common sense.
Would you join a contest if the prize was RM100?
Heck no.

So first up, what *are* the prizes? *rubs hands in glee*

For the basketball tournament, I went to kacau NickIsTaller.
My brother’s an avid basketball player.

Yeah, I know the contest for this is over.
I just wanted to sibuk at any rate.

Sometimes when I meet guys through other friends, they’d say, “Oh yeah, I know your brother, we play basketball together.”

So it’s different.
He plays basketball with them.
I drink with them.

I asked Nick, “Hey, what do you think of a basketball tournament that gives RM1,500 prize money?”
“Hmm that’s not bad.”
“Not bad… like how? I have no idea what the normal figure is.”
“Most of the other tournaments give cash prizes of less then 1k or sometimes even 500. Hmm except for this recent one in The Curve that gave damn a lot. But 1,500 is damn good.”

I went into interview mode, “So, if you won 1,500 what would you do with it?”
“Have to split between three players right?”
“Yeah I guess so.”
“Hmm dunno. Normal stuff I guess.”
“-_- Fail la you. So much for something interesting you say to write on my blog. -_-“

So yes.
The prize money was RM1,500
1st runner up got RM1,000
And 2nd runner up got RM500

Now, if you’re short (like me) and don’t have much ability in playing basketball (like me), there was the futsal tournament for others to cash in on.

I think half my friends play futsal.
MaryBerry plays every week with Gobi and gang, so does FaiTheMai, TL, AzwinAndy, AdamPoserPan, etc.
ExSmellie used to play so much that I had to yank him from it  to spend quality time with me instead -_-

One thing about futsal is you can seriously get hurt with it, yet the boys still insist on playing.

FaiTheMai obtained some problems with his knees last time yet still insisted on playing.
Then he got a slip disk so had to abandon sport altogether.
TL got kicked in the ankles and had an ugly bruise when we went to Perhentian.
AdamPoserPan… well he just got itsy wounds and made a big whiny deal out of it.

I didn’t take this. He did, ages ago. (With his futsal gear still on -_-)

There must be a reason why they love playing futsal so much, though I’m blinded to it cos I hate running around, despite being a sprinter in school last time.
Even in the gym I’d rather do the stair climber then the treadmill. I love hiking, swimming, other sports, and now diving (yay! I just got my license!), but I’m just not a fan of running around kicking a ball.

Prize money for the futsal tournament was the same as the basketball one πŸ˜‰
First prize = RM1,500
1st runner up = RM1,000
2nd runner up = RM500

I know both the basketball and futsal ones are over, so you must be wondering why the heck I’m writing about it when there’s no way you can join already.
But I couldn’t help babbling a bit ’bout it.

Ok ok I’ll get to the point.

Besides the basketball and futsal tournaments, there’ll also be the Fuyoh! Fashion Design Contest taking place for the span of a month from 15 September to 31 October 2007.

Okay for me, if I was younger and I wanted to partake in a competition like this, it’s not only the money that’d draw me but the acquisition of the title itself.
Even if you don’t continue pursuing a career in fashion design, the fact that you won something like this can always be inserted into your CV as fabulous additional skills that you have!

So for the Fuyoh! Fashion Design Contest, I’m going to go through what you have to do first before telling you what you’d win.

First,
You participate by
creating a minimum of 4 designs on JPEG/PDF format and email it to digistreetblast@gmail.com with the subject entitled ‘Fashion.’

Then,
8 finalists will be selected to receive RM1,000 each, to bring their designs to life.
They’ll compete in the KL Finals to vie to be champion.

If you are champion,
You get prize money of RM2,000 + Nokia 7900 Prism + working experience with a fashion designer.

If you’re one of the finalists who don’t win, it’s okay. It was a good try and you still get a Nokia 7900 Prism.

Couldn’t help googling the phone up.
Quite the cemerlang also.
(Crap, I think I listen to DikHaHaHau and Roen too much. Since when I use the word ‘cemerlang’? -_-)

I have no idea who the fashion designer is as of yet.
If you’re young, that doesn’t mean age is a barrier.

See here Justin Yap.
He won Best Eveningwear during MIFA two years ago… when he was 20.

Jess from Andrews Models, stylist Calvin Cheong, designer Justin Yap, me in my non-red phase @ the Robinson’s launch @ Gardens Midvalley

If you’ve always aspired to be a fashion designer, this is just one of the ways of starting (besides pursuing a course in it). You’d get to be involved in the final presentation of a model on the runway!

The hair!

The make up!

The models…

Took this at the Robinson’s Launch as well
JustinYap and i were trying (rather unsuccessfully) not to drool so obviously at this particular dude, our jaws hanging open all.

The B-Boy Dance Challenge is also till 31 October 2007.

A video of you and 5 friends have to be sent in to digistreetblast@gmail.com with the subject ‘Dance’
And like the fashion one, 8 finalists will be selected whereupon they’ll compete at the KL Finals.

Winning group gets RM2,000 prize money + 6 x Nokia 5610 XpressMusic + and a trip to bust those moves elsewhere by competing overseas! Nice.

1st runner-up gets > 6 x Nokia 5700 XpressMusic
2nd runner-up gets > 6 x Nokia 5300 XpressMusic

So not only do you know how to move, you in most probability have a sexy bod from all the workout plus you have high stamina which equals to *cough* being extremely… healthy. Yeah, healthy.

Bet your saham will naik with the chicks, man.

Now.
We’ve been talking and talking about the Fuyoh! Fashion Design Contest and the B-Boy Dance Challenge, and how they winner will emerge in the KL Finals.

But what the heck is this KL Finals?

It’s at the Fuyoh Street Blast la. (aiyo are you following me or not?)

Besides finding out who won the Inter-Varsity Sports Championships, and who the winners are for the fashion and B-boy contests, there’ll be heaps of other workshops and mini competitions lined up for those of you (like me) who didn’t end up joining either of the main ones.

X-Games! – BMX, In-Line Skating, Skate Boarding

I used to rollerblade every single day without fail back in the 90s.
Woo…
Almost killed myself too when I bladed downhill and went faster then the car next to me and didn’t know how to stop -_-

Dance! – Breakdance, Shuffle, Freestyle and Capoiera Workshops

Capoiera @ Kuching Rainforest Music Fest

Hmm remember the Atmosphere days?
:p That was so… five years ago.
That’s where I met so many of the people I still see today πŸ˜€
And we used to cheer PassedOutBen on cos he could shuffle in perfect agility for the big guy he was back then (now he lost weight see)

None of us oldies shuffle anymore. But it’s amusing to see how the new ones do it.
Though I feel like throwing something at them when I see someone shuffling to RNB = absolute rubbish okay.

Shufflers at the previous PD rave

Arts & Crafts – Graffiti and other funky techniques
Arts and crafts! Wee… i always wanted to teach children arts and crafts in kindergarten.
Show them how to draw fairies and start a fairy cult.

As for graffiti, I love admiring and taking pictures of them, but I don’t have a knack for it.
Here’s a masterpiece by AhHoong aka DozyDidjital aka Didjital from the Bass Agents

Damn cemerlang right?

Besides all those activities, you can also get awesome stuff with Digi’s fun games

Bid Dat! – Bid for goodies from as low as RM1
Spin & Win – Reload and spin away for cool prizes
G-Force!

Oh my god.
I love G-Force.
It doesn’t last long but I remember taking it twice before – once with AdamPoserPan in Singapore and another with GarfieldChak at the KL Tower rave.

And if that’s not enough, there are more performances lined up (Walau. Type it also get tired already)

Rock hard with shows by local artistes, uni bands, and dance champions, not forgetting special appearances by DIGI CelebriTeen finalists.

For the performances, Gerhana Ska Cinta, Joe Flizzow, Sierra, Letto from Indonesia will be playing.

Joe Flizzow laughing

Took that in Gabriel’s apartment for a feature article for Vida! mag a year ago.

Letto from Indonesia

I must say I adore Indonesian bands.
They have this way of relating their lyrics and it always turns out damn emo.
>_<

It’s usually listening to the songs over and over that I end up taking to it, then I’ll be so semangat i’ll search up the lyrics and once, I even translated Sheila On Seven’s Sephia to English.
:p

Other Malaysian indie bands playing will be Raw n G$, Mono lo-fi minimal, Tnoze/sash, Hujan, Debunga, and Mines Mayor.

Also showing up will be Da Yellow Coverage Fellow.

How can we not know that Yellow Coverage Fellow?
I think he’ll be most popular person that day.
Everyone will want to take pictures with him… including me!

So remember, slash 24th November off your calendar and check out happy-coloured digi.com.my/fu-yoh for more info (plus there’s heaps of other info and buttons to mess about with there.)
