Hacking it is when you have no budget for a shoot (not meaning ‘no limit’, meaning no money!) and gather friends to help you do one instead!
Urbanscapes is coming up (HELLO WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN. 28TH JUNE YO!) and each of our publications are doing a countdown online.
Check out Junk’s and KLue’s.
Have you clicked on it?
You gotta click on it first, else you don’t know what i’m talking about.
Basically we are all to superimpose heads of people involved in Urbanscapes (artists, partners, DJs, boutique owners, everyone) unto bodies wearing Urbanscapes t-shirts. The bodies obviously belong to Freeformers.
I thought oh cool, it’s gonna look whack!
Then i realised… damn.
The concept is very KLue and Junk… but it’s not really Tongue in Chic.
A picture of a t-shirt… styled like that… on a fashion blog?
NO!
SALAH!
TAK BOLEH JALAN.
So i decided on Friday (yes. just yesterday evening) that i’ll organise a shoot to have a series of pictures taken of the shirts… styled how we would wear them if we had to wear the t-shirts.
I called up Idan, (who’s only 20-years-old!) and takes super semangat fashion shots.
We managed to sort a deal out
(If you see this picture of me on his Flickr, please don’t think i wanted that taken… i had no make up on and was just blahing in my romper to work, not model! Kena forced sial -_-)
Okay, models.
Damn. Who to ask to model?
So last minute, there isn’t time to put online i’m looking for *cough*free*cough* models.
DidiBuli: You know so many people, ask some models.
Me: The models i know, are too busy to do this la… and have to pay them…
DidiBuli: Ask some models who cannot make it and they’d do for free, for their portfolio.
Me: I don’t know any models who cannot make it… the ones i know all can make it… cheh wah!
DidiBuli: Ooh, SNAP!
*ponder*ponder*
DidiBuli: Ask Irman la… he knows all these young chicks.
Me: Hahaha!
*ponder*
Me: Fuck, just ask friends who know how to pose la… i buy them drinks or dinner in return!
So i got two fashion-loving friends to help out – Michelle and Azana.
They were great, besides just me bringing a massive luggage bag of clothes, accessories, scarves and shoes; they brought some as well.
Azana even went so far as to bring a hairdryer. Champion.
I laid the 8 Urbanscapes T-shirts i borrowed from the office on my bed, glancing at them as i packed things i thought would match with them or make them look better at any rate.
Tim Gunn‘s line went through my head sternly – “Make it work!”
Below’s just half the amount we lugged six floors up a construction building (Idan’s secret shooting spot) unto the rooftop.
Lots of shoes. Just in case.
Idan’s fantastic. He’s like a photographer + make up artist + hair stylist rolled into one.
It worked out pretty well, we’d exchange girls as we went along.
Idan would shoot one girl whilst i got the other ready.
Then switch.
Then again.
We shot eight outfits in total.
Azana and Michelle were fab at enthusiastically suggesting things to style too.
Surprisingly we ran on good time and managed to finish just before dark.
I can’t wait to see the pictures, and the outcome of us hacking it!
It was super fun tho, with us rummaging through different coloured tights, skinnies, sunnies, heels, and accs to throw together.
Azana even danced up there.
Yeah yeah… it’s distinctly my favourite brollie from a previous entry.
Look out for the pictures, which will go on Tongue in Chic starting Friday
Oh, we’ve also just started our first contest there. Check it
