MODA (Malaysian Official Designers’ Association) celebrated its 24th anniversary this year in conjunction with Samsung, with the theme of the night inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S5. MODA presented 35 prominent designers and brands of Malaysia alongside with 10 young upcoming designers, hence the 175 feet indoor runway in Publika (and that’s a long runway)!
The attendees were definitely showstoppers that night so I’m gonna show some candid pics of them before we dive into the designers’ creations!

Matthew Choong, Kee Hua Chee, and Adrian Loh. Love that tiger bag!
Hey Zoe!
Carmen and Benson
Malaysian entertainer Edwin Sumun (aka Shelah) emceed for the event.
On a side note, that red statue looks like someone who’s cheering for Edwin! 😀
Gillian Hung, the President of MODA.
Next up, up-and-coming designers! Daring usage of colours, textures and structures were seen in all designs, and these young designers weren’t afraid to limit themselves, which makes the showcase my favourite part of the show.
Ava Abdollahi, which was personally my favourite. Ava is currently assisting Jovian Mandagie, a successful designer in Malaysia. This coat will be a very good excuse for me to travel to countries with four seasons, how can anyone not love its colours?!

Reminds me of Madonna…
Ava Abdollahi won the title of Samsung Outstanding Designer Award, and brought home a unit of the Galaxy S5. She was chosen based on the most creative use of fabric on an innovative and futuristic design.
Next up are showcases of Malaysia’s established designers, with familiar names such as Fairuz Ramdan, Joe Chia, Celest Thoi, Zang Toi, etc.

This made me wanna watch Maleficent all over again!
Joe Chia needs no introduction here as his signature design aesthetic can be easily recognised.
