I instagramed a picture of this new toy i got to play with last month ๐
Girls went crazy about the colour. I don’t think i’ve got so many likes for an instagram picture before!
The Samsung NX1000 is obviously targeted at women as it’s also available in white, and weighs a mere 200gm (the lightest camera in its class). I was at a shoot the other day and let some photographer friends hold the camera, and they all too agreed that it’s surprisingly light ๐
What sets the NX1000 apart from ALL the others… is that it’s got a WIFI option. You know how we’ve got smartphones everywhere, well now we’ve got a SMART CAMERA!
There’s LOTS i can do with the WIFI option! I can use:
– MobileLink to directly beam photos to my iOS or Android smartphone.
– Social Sharing lets me upload pictures to Facebook/Picasa/Photobucket, and vids to YouTube(!)
– Remote Viewfinder allows me to control the NX1000 with my smartphone (VERY COOL).
– Other features i would hope for: like emailing pics/vids; auto backup to transfer pics/vids to PC wirelessly; and TV Link which lets me play pics/vids on other devices when they’re connected to the same wireless access point.
For the first time in my life, i was able to upload a picture from the camera straight to Facebook without taking out my SD card, or using a cable!
I posted my first picture onto Facebook *here*
Yeah i was just sitting on my sofa testing out the cam. I took the picture using this special filter that’s included.
[I’m posting a step-by-step guide on how the screen looks when i use MobileLink, Remote Viewfinder and Social Sharing further down in this blogpost]There’s a Magic dial on the NX1000 where ten Smart Filters are available to take some cool shots. The one i used above is Old Film 2. Below are some of my favourite filters:
Old Film 2
Fish Eye – i couldn’t stop laughing at this one of me. I can take lots of fat pictures of people!
Halftone Dots – i took this in a random bar in Koh Lipe… and the picture made it look like such a NICE BAR
Sketch
Negative
There are also thirteen Magic Frames for you to take pictures with. They are many so i’m just gonna show you two:
Old Record – i took a picture of my cats in my living room
Old Album – took a picture of a picture (that’s me eating on a mountain)
The NX1000 is not just play, it can take pictures at an impressive 20.3 megapixels, has 1/4000 fast shutter, and 1080p Fullย HD Stereo Movie Recording.
I just wanted to show you what the menu screen looks like. Quite straightforward and easy to recognize everything.
One feature i like is being able to set three custom modes for the camera. So i chose my three options to be – more yellow, red, or purple, depending on the lighting at the location and my mood ๐ I can also adjust the saturation, sharpness and contrast. As you can see, i just hiked all those three up cos i like my pictures to be BRIGHT and stand out.
This is taken with more focus on yellow.
The camera has the typical Scene options like Beach, Snow, Portrait, Landscape, Fireworks, etc. The ones i want to mention areย 3D,ย so photos taken using that can be viewed on a 3D compatible TV. Andย Panorama – i just had to press the camera button down while sweeping it from left to right and tada, the picture turns up!
Fanciness aside, the Samsung NX1000 takes great pictures as it should, and i managed to notice a lot of detail in my pictures once i viewed them on my laptop instead of on the camera’sย 3.0โ TFT LCD Display.
With the flash on.
OK now i’m gonna show you how i used the special WIFI functions on the camera!
When i tried this by myself at home, i was thinking ohhhh i hope this workssss. Sometimes technology doesn’t seem to like me and i get stuck. But it was really easy! All i did was select the Remote Viewfinder mode on my camera. On my phone, i downloaded the Samsung Remote Viewfinder app for free, then switched that on too. And they just connected and whatever my NX1000 pointed at, i saw on my phone’s screen, along with options to click the shutter, adjust megapixels and flash!
So get this, the picture above was taken with the NX1000 which was on the dining table, but i used my phone to snap it. Geddit? Geddit?
Then i thought i’d go all the way and upload that onto Facebook as well. I just have to click on the Social Sharing button which brings me to choose which social platform i want to upload the picture/vid to. I can even download more applications fromย Google Play or the Apple Store onto the camera to add on to the existing list.
So i chose Facebook, keyed in my email and password to log in…
And i’m in Facebook! This is how it looks on the camera screen:
So i just selected one picture and wrote a caption for it…
Clicked on ‘upload’ and it appeared on my Facebook wall *here*
Awesome! If i ran a contest asking people to name the device that photographed this picture, i think no one would be able to guess!
As for MobileLink:
I select MobileLink on my camera, and open the Samsung MobileLink app (downloaded for free).
Then wait for it to connect
Click ‘Share’ and it goes thru! EASY.
