I remember being in London when i was 17,
and not having the habit of wearing anything on my face.
(Girls younger than that nowadays are experts, woe is me.)
I think my aunt thought it time for me to SLAP something on,
cos she started throwing all sorts of make up into our shopping basket.
And so started my amateur foray into making myself look different for the better.
The first make up i clung on to on a regular basis was mascara.
Reasons being it was easy to apply,
and helped ‘open up’ my Chinese eyes by leaps and bounds.
You know what i mean by Chinese eyes,
my eyelashes are long but not as lusciously thick as my Indian girlfriends.
I’m guessing that the only reason they’re moderately long is because i took the scissors to them when i was a teen, read in some magazine that trimming your eyelashes would make them grow back thicker!
Luckily (for me), the article held true and my lashes grew back slightly thicker and longer.
But they’re still kinda pathetic.
Hence my addiction to mascara.
If i don’t put any on… i look like i just rolled out of bed.
I look sleepy!
Because i’ve used countless mascara wand types and brands for over a decade now,
i can confidently say i know what i’m talking about when you throw me a mascara to try!
When it comes to using mascara on lashes,
my whole point is to:
1. thicken my lashes, volume volume volume!
2. curl them if possible
3. easily washable (thanks to Kanch telling me years ago that pulling at my eyes will give it lines -_- i’ve been super paranoid ever since and avoid using stubborn eye make up)
4. smudge-proof (no thanks to our humid weather)
5. slim brush (i’m not a fan of thick wands, terkenas my eye skin with mascara too much)
Last week, i bought a new flashy mascara at Guardian pharmacy:
The new L’Oréal Paris Curl Impact Collagene
What really drew me is this new mascara promises the 5 things i look out for in mascaras…
read my mind or what.
The new Curl Impact Collagene mascara guarantees
13x more volume and all day lasting curl in one step.
I’m liking this one step part,
cos i layer my mascara sometimes, but i’m not a fan of doing it.
Wastes time and the mascara can occasionally clump, or flake if dry.
There were all these scientific reasons on the box on why and how the mascara works its wonders.
But i didn’t bother reading it till after i tried the mascara.
In my defence, i didn’t want to read all these marvels and potentially psych my brain into thinking the mascara was doing all it says it’ll do.
I figured i should just USE IT, then if it’s cool, read HOW they managed it
Before picture
After picture.
Okay. The mascara is cool.
Their claim to do everything in one step is true.
See how CURLY my lashes are? I didn’t even touch a curler!
I don’t even use a curler on a normal day… i own one. But it’s lost somewhere. In my parents’ house.
I did the above in a quick application as if i was rushing to go out (see, i even acted the part while reviewing it)
I’m always rushing and i need to know that i can apply it really quickly and like a pro at all times.
So i gave myself about 30 seconds or less per eye to do the above.
The L’Oréal Paris Curl Impact Collagene’s 2-sided spiral curler brush is pretty intriguing.
Curved from one angle
Flat and straight from another
It’s specially designed for Asian eyes to magnify each lash with volume and all-day lasting curl hold.
I have to say that during application, i noticed how the brush curled on the same wave as my eyelash line,
making it really easy to sweep mascara on.
Some tips off the box on how to use this unique brush effectively
(ok so maybe i should have read the instructions before trying it,
but instructions for mascara… really? So canggih nowadays.)
1. For volume, i used the flat side of the brush to apply the mascara in a zigzag motion from lash roots to tip.
2. For lasting curl all day long, use the curved side of the brush to arch each lash in a curling position to fix the curl.
3. Optionally, make use of the useful slim tip of the brush to lift the lashes at the corners of your eyes for a finishing touch.
It boggles me how the Curl Impact Collagene can give both volume and curl at the same time,
is it some super secret formula or what?
Turns out… it IS a formula,
which was developed with 3 things in mind:
1. 13x more volume
A substance called Amplifying Collagene manages to coat lashes with 13X more volume without weighing them down.
When i applied the mascara, i could see how much more obvious and thick my lashes seemed with a few swipes.
2. Curls that lasts all day
I wore the mascara since morning,
took a nap in the evening (was still having flu)
and it was still curly for dinner with my parents that night!
No more need for eyelash curlers.
I read that this works because of polymers in the mascara that acts like a film –
when it dries upon application, it shrinks,
automatically setting the lashes in a curling position.
Can’t help loving science in a mascara.
3. Hassle-free removal and 100% smudge proof
I usually stay away from waterproof mascara cos it’s really difficult to remove
(and i get paranoid i’m losing my lashes in the process!)
so i always stick to non-waterproof mascara.
The only downturn of that is that it tends to smudge sometimes,
especially in our humid weather.
The Curl Impact mascara didn’t smudge all day,
despite me rubbing my eyes a bit (bad habit sorry)
and there were no clumps, flakes, smearing or panda eye effect at the end of the day!
Love that it’s not waterproof and i could remove it easily when i washed my face later that night.
I placed a warm, soaked cotton pad over my eyes for a few seconds before gently wiping it off.
Summary, the L’Oréal Paris Curl Impact Collagene gives me:
1. incredible volume for my lashes
2. a crazy curl
3. no stress when removing it
4. no smudges, clumps or flakes
5. quick and easy application
I bought my Curl Impact Collagene at Guardian pharmacy,
though i’m sure you can get it at any other pharmacy which sells make up!
Usual price is supposed to be RM59.90 ~
but i nabbed it at RM10 off.
Think they’re having a promo in July only,
so now’s a good time to get it!
