I love Lat comics…
I spent a portion of my childhood years poring over Lat comic books my dad bought,
especially the Langkawi one.
My mom said she even used to cut his comics out of the newspapers to keep!
So when i heard the musical was in progress,
i bought tickets weeks ago to ensure we’d get decent seats!
I went with my parents and Clem,
and was really excited ‘cos i heard such great reviews.
I think i should just STOP reading reviews!
They either get my hopes up and dash them after,
or lower them so bad i don’t want to go/find it amazing after -_-
This was a case of the former…
I couldn’t get all the jokes,
the Malay was a different slang and rather fast to catch (ok and my malay sucks too)
and the subtitles weren’t entirely complete.
Felt a bit bad for Clem cos it’s hard to catch everything when they’re not in sync..!
Nevertheless i really enjoyed the musical.
The little boy who acted as Lat was superb at singing.
I felt like kidnapping him home to sing for me.
(Now you know how i’d treat children – as my slaves haha)
It was so cool to see the dancers dress up from my mom and dad’s time, Malaysian style.
That ‘Pekan boy, kampung boy’ song was randomly playing in my head yesterday!
And of course, the story itself – learning about how Lat’s career and life progressed.
My mom loveddd the set up and told me so *waves at Jia Wei*
All in all, i think it was a great effort.
Better than a couple of international musicals i’ve watched beforeย
