As host of the official Malaysian Grand Prix race party, Johnnie Walker is giving away 2 sets of 4 passes to experience Kuala Lumpur’s hottest event of the year, the Black Circuit Lounge, with their friends on Saturday April 9th at a secret venue.

McLaren Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button would not be privy to all the benefits of a Formula One driver unless they continuously strived to be the best in their field. It is this pursuit of progress that has charactirized the ethos of Johnnie Walker since founded in 1820 and speaks to the heart of the “Keep Walking” campaign.

“I’ve always had a strong competitive streak since I was young that I got from racing with my dad. Before F1, I was the youngest carting champion. I wanted to be an F1 driver like Ayrton Senna, the F1 world champion back then. Keep Walking is a really powerful message, and to me it means never give up, keep pushing forward, always prepare and practice to be the best. I spend a lot of time with the team and the engineers especially on the track to know each and every turn so I can perform well over the weekend. The better I prepare, the better I qualify. I don’t win every race, but I‘ve learnt to always persevere, have self confidence, and to remember that if I have a dream to pursue, I’ve got to go and get it.” – Lewis Hamilton

“For a racing driver, you need to start when you’re young, thats when you gain all the experience of race craft, racing in close proximity with other drivers and being in this atmosphere and pushing yourself to the limit. It took me 113 races to win my 1st Gran Prix. I relate very strongly to the Keep Walking message as I’ve had ups and downs in my career, but its about having a good support system which I found in my manager, my team and my family. Its also about being strong enough to fight through. I was in a season that I had to push really hard to fight for the world championship that I eventually won in 2009.. The Brazillian GP was the race I became world champion. I qualified in 14th position, but the next day, when the lights whent out, I fought for every position possible and won the race. Im a 100% serious at work. I love training and love pain. I do triathlons, and its 100% down to me and no one else. Theres always more to come, and to work hard is important. You need to work hard to improve every situation you can. It’s something you can tell your kids about, sharing your life experiences. If you really want something, you’ve got to give it your all. It does take over your life, but you’ve got to understand and accept that.” – Jenson Button

My “Keep Walking” story happened last year where it was my first clubbing experience after turning a ripe age of 18, legal enough to drink at Mist Club, Bangsar. And on that night, what made me keep walking and dancing on the dance floor was Johnnie Walker’s Black Label mix. With the perfect drink, it kept me going rocking the dance floor all night long.I definitely enjoyed my night there and then with great music and company. However, after the party ended, while walking back to the car, I tripped and fell face down in front of everyone outside the club. As embarrassed as I was, I picked myself up and told myself to keep walking on. It was the most unforgettable night for me ever since, embarrassing myself on my first night out partying.

Really? Ok “i kept walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking. walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, walking, like a sotong.”

Just starting out as a freshman in college, I was sent into a state of emotional turmoil when my parents announced they were seeking for trial separation. During the few months of denial and rage, I dropped everything I had going well in my life and deluge myself in agony and anger. One day I blamed my parents, the next day I blamed myself. There were days that I would continuously stay in bed and drown in my sadness. In the midst of it all, I forgot how to love myself. It later lead me to fail my subjects which eventually caused my scholarship being suspended. That only made my situation worse and sent me in a state of self-loathing.

At breaking point, my friends finally came to an intervention when they found out. I began seeking the college counselor’s help which manage to help me get back up on my feet. I told myself happiness was a choice. A year later after much from relatives and friends, I’m proud to say I’m at a happy place in my life. I’m maintaining stable grades at a different college with a partial scholarship. They’re still sorting it out their mess at their own rate but I no longer feel responsible nor blame myself or my parents for what had happened.

In reminder of my dark days, I got 2 scripture tattoos. One -‘ fighter’s spirit ’ for a constant reminder to myself that when misfortune strikes you you have to still be strong for yourself and fight as hell for your own happiness. ‘ Setbacks do not build character. They reveal it. ‘ – a Johnie Walker slogan from a previous campaign which I cut out and stuck on my cupboard up until present time. The second tattoo – ‘live learn laugh love’ was to remind me that no matter how tough some days can come by, never forget to perform these four simple yet significant task daily.

No matter what life hits you with, keep walking. And this is my ‘ Keep Walking ‘ story. x

People always say that I act much older than I really am. They all seem suprised whenever I reveal to them that I am on the near side of 20. In most cases, its a good thing to be young. But sometimes, I find it to be a barrier.

You see, I am a dancer. And though I have not been taught professionally, I always try to learn as much as I can from as many people possible. I started out dancing when I was back in JB for my church. Since then, my love for dancing kept on growing and growing. Now in KL, I want to make dancing my carreer. But as I mentioned before, my age can sometimes be a barrier. People look at me and think, “She’s got no experience”. It was a hard pill to swallow at first, but I was not about to hang my dancing shoes and call it quits. So I kept on learning, kept on practicing, and kept on going for auditions. I thought to myself, the only way I can get that experience they say I was lacking, is to keep going at it, and going at it strong.

Juggling between going to class and going for practice is hard work. I’d have classes in the morning and dance practice as night. Though its tiring, my passion for dance fuels me all through the night.

Now, my perseverance is slowly paying off. I have been blessed with so many opportunities in dance. Im currently dancing for Miss Nina, under the guidance of one of the best Hip Hop instructors I’ve ever met, Marcus Tucker. The doors have also opened for me to do shows for big names like Astro and KLPac. I am trully blesssed.

It’s been a challenging road, and I know more challenges lay ahead. No matter what obstacles come in my way, not only will I Keep Walking, I’m going to keep on Dancing ♥♥♥

This story brings me back to 3 years ago. I was always the happy-go-lucky girl, jumping around, forever with the *bigwidesmile* that make everyone wonders how did I do that, and I always told them ” Why waste your time sulking if you can just smile it off, and forgive and forget? :)” They do ponder for a second after hearing my answer. Everything changes when this someone stepped into my life; he is even a better happy-go-lucky person than I do! And, his jokes always make my day brighter. There’s just some chemistry between the both us, and we started hanging out more often, the movies/dinners/random dates. Each time we go out on a date, we would definitely end it in a bar/club, I admit I’m an alcoholic, and I’m glad he’s one too! Our favorite drink is always a cup of JW Black Label whiskey, I would have it with some coke and he would take it on the rock 😉 Times like this are great, you have the best companion, and the best drink ever, I really wished time would just stop right there. But, things didn’t go well for both us, and it ended with a mutual goodbye. I was in a terrible state where the dark clouds are always above me; raining, there goes my smile. My friends couldn’t take it, and brought me out for party and drinks, and it’s always JW Black Label whiskey, though it reminds me of him, but my favorite will never change. JW Black Label whiskey gave me good memorable times with him and it also cheered me up when I’m down, and gave me back my good’ ol smile!

  8. Aris Raphael Khoo says:

Just keep walking. Those were the three most important words said to me by the most important woman in my life, my late mother.

She used to tell me that it’s not really what you do in the face of adversity that shows the world what kind of person you are, but rather

if you’re able to pick yourself up and just keep walking. And that is what makes a man.

Everyone would say I was rather lucky to be able to enter college and do A-Levels. They didn’t know the amount of strength it took me to endure those 2 darkest years of my life.

My mother was already stricken with cancer in 2007 but she fought it off, stuck true to her own motto and kept life, kept the faith and kept walking. Then she had a remission again in 2009 and the best part is my stepfather sold her out, refused to pay for her treatment and left her to die despite owing her a large sum of money which was to fund my university education. She just kept quiet and kept walking with whatever remaining time she had with her life. Even her last coherent words before the morphine consumed her very body, mind and soul was for me to keep my head high, don’t let anything get me down, focus on my goals and keep walking.

After she passed away, my stepfather kicked me out of her house, didn’t bother to give me back what was owed to me but I told myself, it doesn’t matter, just keep walking. Through all the adversity I faced through those darkest years, my mother’s sole advice and want was for me to be shining like a diamond rolling in the dust, no matter what happens, to just shine, focus and to just keep walking.

And that’s what I intend to do, to keep her promise. Walk on with faith, walk on with friends, family and walk on with life. Keep walking.

    Cheers.
