Exactly a year ago, Joyce & Ash saw a magnificent sunset
Mind Your English, PLEASE.
Most of my friends know how fucking emo i get when i see spelling or grammar mistakes
Or hear people mixing up ‘lend’ and ‘borrow’
Or see people mix up ‘lose’ and ‘loose’ in writing
I mean, it’s not that difficult to get grammar right you know
Peter & Jane taught us all that since kindergarten, kan?
I know i annoy some people by doing it tho :p
“Why is it black colour??”
“Black.”
“…Huh?”
“Just black. Dunnit to say colour.”
“… -_- … Joyce, don’t be annoying okay.”
“Sorry… just that.. bah nevermind.”
So anyway, i was at this concert thing the other day
That was to raise money for elephants
Just as i seated myself, i heard the emcee’s FranDrescher-like voice
Eeyer… who la is that
I thought to myself and looked around
Then i saw the emcee
Bah it was that Xandria girl who won the Hitz.tv contest
I don’t have anything personal against her cos i don’t really know her
It’s just that i’m still blar over the fact that she won the contest based on donations into a bank account and sms votes through that
Just reminds me abit of Veruca Salt and how she got her Daddy to buy her many many chocolate bars just to get the Golden Ticket
Anyway. I still stand to the fact that her england cannot make it.
Her pronunciation is damn off.
Her slang is damn off.
I was cringing most of the time she spoke.
And my mouth gaped open and eyes widened in disbelief when she got her england lagi wrong.
Instead of saying, “… Malaysian elephants…”
She said, “… MalaysianS elephanT…”
WHAT.
THE.
FUCK.
As an emcee, you can’t bloody get your English wrong!!
It’s just such a shame that so many of the expatriates present would think that Malaysians can’t speak proper English then.
>_<
Xandria is a pretty girl.
I think she just needs to buck up on her speaking skills.
Because there are so many people out there who can speak up better and it’s just not fair that she holds a contract due to her family’s and her campaigning.
jADlsjlkk see there i go again emoing about her win.
:p
Yes, I do share and understand the pain-in-the-ear feeling of hearing something so grammatically outrageous to the point where it sounds vulgar. It is a pity isn’t it?
Anyway, maybe she meant to say “..Malaysia’s elephants…”

*points up* she still missed the ‘s’ on elephants. same thing.
anyway joyce, you’re not the only one annoyed with the win haha.. no worries..

Actually I cannot tahan ang-mo wannabes accents. The super obvious teruk ones. Especially when talking to a fellow Malaysian.

What annoys me the most is – Malaysians who try faking their ‘accent’. You know those kids who were in overseas for a year and came home with a fake American/British accent. They make me wanna puke. When I was living in KL, I knew a guy who was in the UK for a few years and he was so damn proud of his so-called *British* accent. He even told us that even the Brits said he has a Brit accent. Give me a break!

cheers.

But lend and borrow thing… bothers me. It just does. I’m OCD in tht sense. π

Oh god. I may be a copywriter, but i have the most superbly atrociouz spelling and gramma ;p .. but creativity counts more in my field..and i got other uncreative english teacherz to correct me..so my finished work is good..hee
As for this accent biatching thingy going on.. hahz i dun get why Malaysians like to speak in a linear monotone..it goes up and down in very small zig zag manner..
So for the rest of us, who are chinese but can barely speak chinese, and speak malay more fluently than chinese, but english is thier mother tongue, i think it’s only normal if we try to speak decent english that has the proper INTONATIONS.. that goes a proper high and low at the right places [haven’t you guys watched MyFairLady?]… English soundz so much better when we observe the highs and lows…
Speaking English is like singing.. It’s sposed to be pleasant to the ears…
People jump in and say “hey you speak with an accent!Did you….?” and i’ll always have to correct them “no. it’s intonationz you’re hearing. it’s different compared to the normal monotone you hear in m’sia. and NO. i did not study overseas and i’m not trying to fake it!” *rolls eyes*
What. Just because sum people study overseas a few years, it gives them the licence to speak better sounding english? phuuuuuuleaseeee. If it makes my ear happier to speak the way i do, i so will! So bugger offf…
*okays. nightstar exits here with a huff and puff…hahhhaa*

urmm sorry to break this to you guys then….
from http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/irregardless.html
Regardless of what you have heard, βirregardlessβ is a redundancy. The suffix β-lessβ on the end of the word already makes the word negative. It doesnβt need the negative prefix βir-β added to make it even more negative.
from http://www.answers.com/topic/irregardless
Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative irβ prefix and βless suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

lol. yea.. its ok if people try to speak it. I mean, thats the best way to learn but if you’re representing the country or somethig\ng then at least do a good job at it. No Lambutans, Labbits or any of that.
joyce: Xandria’s not all that bad. I believe she knows how to carry herself well and she’s not a blondie. Its evident that she knows how to get things her way. to me, belinda’s a better choice.

jctang, you’re right after all. Btw, that was from Cambridge Advanced Learnerss. Did a check on Oxford Advanced Learner’s and it ain’t there. I think I figured out better what “US NOT STANDARD” meant. =)

Oohh.. this reminds me of that big boo-boo Lim Kok Wing did. Apparently, a tribute to DP Seri Endon Mahmood (our current PM’s belated wife).
http://lance.fotopages.com/?entry=647693
LICT poster had this typo mistake… “A tribute to Datin Paduke Seri Endom Mahmood” large and the smaller italic words saying, “an extraordinary women with a passion for the arts”.
The irony is that the fella who pointed it out also b!tched about a ‘rouge’ hair at her forehead (see pix at site given above). Hmm… Rouge hair… guess he must be playing way too much Dungeons & Dragons.
*hope there weren’t any grammar mistakes in my post. >_<
i sat through an excrutiating 2-hour event with an emcee that speaks like this :
“layyys & gentleman, now to present the prizes sponsored by COCO cola is .. blah blah blah”
-.- not funny okay.

Well look at it this way. Proper inflection and suitable pauses in sentences can mean very different things. It’s the difference between ‘I helped my Uncle Jack off a horse’ as opposed to ‘ I helped my uncle jack off a horse’.
